  1. "this is not how you unify the Republican Party" . crowd chants roll call vote, roll call vote, roll call vote ... 'none of this makes sense.' This is wild. the podium has been abandoned. All they want is a roll call vote ... want to speak to the rules adopted ... and also platform. This is a life long Republican and US Senator commenting. We are in uncharted territory. they've vacated the stage entirely. When the chair abandons his post, there is no rule for that ... Rule is that if the majority of the delegates of seven states demand a roll call vote ... it
  2. Here's what t hey're talking about now l they had a vote on the rules. The anti trump people didn't have the vote but they did file petitions that could force the roll call vote. But the chair did a voice vote; and the voice vote was Yea and the voice vote was NO And everyone is pissed because they didn't put folks on the record. pubby
  3. Live coverage of the GOP National Convention. Any local Republicans there? Want to win Tendollars? Capture a picture of a Paulding person at theconvention. 4. Thanks all and thanks to the folks who boarded him during Saturday's storm. My wife talked with them and they apparently have a hound with a similar obsessive aversion to storms. We were both quite happy that he found shelter in the storm because we know how freaked he could be. Heck, he might have made it all the way to Austell trying to out run it. pubby
  5. Found ... Apparently he got spooked with distant thunder, bolted and was discovered by a neighbor near Lindsey Lake Road and Pine Shadows. That person got in touch with another who sheltered chester over night Saturday and Sunday. As a testament to the sweetness of the dog, if there had been no claims, he'd have already gotten a new one. If Chester were a girl, I'd have to change his name to Stella ... you know, 'cause he depends on the kindness of strangers. pubby PS: The reference is to the movie and play Streetcar named Desire ... where the crazy (and he was crazy from the thunder) st
  6. Pretty fancy footwork there GD ...bringing up the exec order. If you can't win an argument, change the argument ... which is just another way of saying you never ever always wrong because your views reflect the right and the right is right, right! pubby
  7. I'll just point out the topic you chose to ignore and instead chose to criticize another post on stylistic grounds. Again: How can I argue with you GD ... I mean you never ever always wrong because your views reflect the right and the right is right, right! pubby
  8. How can I argue with you GD ... I mean you never ever always wrong because your views reflect the right and the right is right, right! pubby PS: This is the most satisfying conversation I think I've ever had with you. All I have to do is copy and paste because with your head that far up your arse there is no way you could hear a thing anyway.
  9. That is the stupidest thing you ever said GD ... but how can anyone argue with you ..because you never ever always wrong because your views reflect the right and the right is right, right. pubby
  10. How can I argue with you GD ... I mean you never ever always wrong because your views reflect the right and the right is right, right! I suppose I'll need to change that phrase of mine, you know, "Perfection eludes us all except GD" ... Nah, I don't want to lie. pubby
  11. The success of write-in candidates is dismal ... if not less than dismal. While stranger things have happened, I don't see anyone on the horizon capable of mounting a successful write-in candidacy in Paulding especially with Georgia's rules. FYI: If you wrote (using my name as an example) G. Patton Hughes and the official name was G Patton Hughes ... the use of the period on the write-in (or the failure to use it) would disqualify the vote. The name has to be precisely as registered with the elections office and close doesn't count. pubby
  12. I understand one of the officers killed in Baton Rouge was black, MM. I don't think juries in the US have been lenient toward cop killers and he laws regarding killing officers I believe have always featured sanctions beyond the pale. pubby
  13. Apparently the shooter was a fellow named Gavin Long born in 1987 from Kansas City, MO. The speculation is that this was a planned ambush and there may be a group involved pubby
  14. Thanks for the concern. I am optimistic he will return.... it is not the first time he's pulled this pubby
  15. Even the Ottoman empire had a system of law and justice and I suspect that the President, who had the support of even dissenting political parties in overcoming the coup, will go through a series of trials. One of the big differences in the cultures - or at least used to be a bid difference between the US and them - was their use of torture. Of course the Presumed Republican Nominee t hinks waterboarding is not 'tough enough' and apparently wants to legitimize cutting fingers off, breaking legs, and drilling heads as punishment ... you know, like his mob buddy enforcers. pubby
  16. You would think a short-legged dog wouldn't run off a large property but dang if Chester (aka: Bear) did yesterday afternoon. This is in the area north of the New Georgia ball fields but Chester is one of those animals who gets wild when stormy weather comes ... like last night. He wandered off a little before 3p and I went cruising the area around Jane Harris/61 until about 5. I had to check on my son and got he corralled and we came back and extended my search to include Marshall Fuller and Lindsey Lake Road before the storm broke at 8. No Chester. In the recent past he's been
  17. We are actually talking past each other. Key to the decision to go into Iraq was the information regarding the Nigerian purchase of yellowcake and the aluminum tubes both cast in the light of an effort of Saddam to develop a nuclear threat. Secy of State Colin Powell and the administration - particularly Cheney - were pushing these bogus facts - and facts known to be bogus by the Intelligence Agencies (DIA as well as CIA and NSA) as justification for the invasion. The notion that Saddam had chemical weapons stockpiled was the common belief that justified the Weapons of Mass Destructio
  18. Interesting fact, dogs. Still Missouri was a border state and there was a fair split on the issue of succession ... but saner heads prevailed. BTW, I had relatives on my mothers side who were Union soldiers ... in addition to the confederates on my fathers' side. You have no idea the ribbing I got in elementary school when it was discovered my mommy was from New York City pubby PS: She was a Republican Party official in Mississippi county in '64 largely because she supported Winthrop Rockefeller for governor.
  19. Let me clarify a bit Whitey ... words being easily twisted and not ever as precise as we'd like. In the reprimand of the fire chief, the reason given was his insubordination. That was in the file but there was another document that specifically discussed Mr. Leggett's role in the rigmarole that apparently disappeared in the period beginning after 2001 and ending before 2009. As far as the public record, (i.e. the documents) Mr. Leggett's resignation from the volunteer fire dept. was only coincident ... although it is commonly known the two events were directly tied... and that is why
  20. There was a big debate at the time over whether the administration (including Cheney) was cherry picking and cooking the intelligence. In my mind the case was made. Like GD, who is never ever always wrong because his views reflect the right and the right is right, right, some folks and I'm assuming your source is among them, who believe their ideological truth - that they are right because they are right, right - trumps reality. Let me say categorically that ideological truth is bull sheeze and the biggest thing wrong with the right is that the never, ever admit they are wrong. We see th
  21. Cain ... you know that GD is never always wrong because he is the voice of the right and the right is right, right! Fact hurt don't they GD pubby
  22. I don't think so GD: Part of my liberal education includes thinking about quotes about freedom and liberty. One that comes to mind here is that 'eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.' While the exact source of this bit of American wisdom is disputed, one of the uses was by an American Abolitionist and liberal activist named Wendell Phillips who wrote on January 28, 1852: Seems quite applicable in regard to those 'hands' entrusted with power becomes ... the ... enemy of the people. Only by continued oversight can the democrat in office be prevented from becoming a desp
  23. Things aren't always as they seem are they. Read further and you'll understand the yellowcake that you referenced had been sequestered in Iraq after the 1991 gulf war ... and was all older than that (1991). That differed from the yellowcake - a low grade uranium ore that has not been processed - that I referenced. According to your article: Bottom line Saddam didn't have access to that yellowcake after 1991 and the charge that Colin Powell was duped into making to the UN was that he was trying to buy more, which apparently he wasn't. Nice try but not banana. pubby
  24. I wouldn't say that. I'd say we differ in our opinions on a whole host of topics now don't we, mrshoward. pubby
