Killing Nazi's, In France, Was The Business My Father Was In
gpatt0n replied to Eddie Bennett's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Oh, but it was. It sought to normalize 'nazi's' and their bastardized Nietzschean philosophy of super-humans who can make rules and give orders to kill the weak and outcast under the belief that anyone has that authority. The whole exercise of the Nuremberg trails was to strip away that aura of authority. I will say that when GWB refused to join the agreement creating the ICC for adjudication of genocidal crimes he fell to the right of truth and justice. That I see that as political is because I studied political science. That you don't is not my fault. pubby -
Woman could face a dozen charges of arson in fire that damaged 20 homes
gpatt0n replied to oneijack's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Actually, the diversion of this topic by Dvbp is that there is a plausible refutation that people who may serve on the jury may be churning like a mob ready to lynch the woman ... they obviously are not. I don't see the publicity regarding the trial being any more or less prejudicial anywhere in the Atlanta metro as the case, while it garnered local interest, has not be so substantial as to be prejudicial, at least in my opinion and from a reading of the topic. As far as dvbp is concerned, the idea that justice is perfect in the domestic court system or the superior court system or in the -

No ... if you count the lines in the post I made, you'd see that the political portion was about 5 percent. pubby -

One of the distinguishing aspects of WWII, that was rare in most previous wars, was the concentration of military might on civilians. In prior wars, civilians were largely spared. Exceptions existed and were typically civil wars which devolved into the most repugnant of military action - genocide (Armenians in Turkey is the primary example although Stalin's starving the Ukrainians in his effort to collectivize the farms was equally repugnant. Mao's destruction of a dam that drowned untold Chinese in a tactical military move is yet another example of civilians being in the line of fire. Th -
I've been to business meetings in cafe's. Sometimes the person who is running late is the one who, in this private meeting, is obligated to pick up the tab, either because "Last time I did" or some other custom. Again, it is a matter of the privilege one affords a customer and businesses; particularly chains, are expected to operate without discrimination in a broad swath of the market. Mom and pop stores can still get away with discrimination sometimes and the record shows some cops embellish their reports to justify their actions but those are little truths. The big truth in

I don't know if my Dad, who was captain with a battery in the 125th FA, killed a sole soldier ... typically his battery was firing 105mm howitzers and the rounds fired came down some distance from his location (although he often did forward observation to target the fire.) Odd are he and his company outdid the inglorious bastards. How could I say that? Here is a bit of the history: pubby PS: My dad was with the unit from the beginning, participating in the Louisiana Maneuvers through the Italian campaign. -
It would appear that some people get the benefit of the doubt and others do not. Those that do get the benefit of the doubt in circumstances like this think little or nothing of it. They expect to be treated just as they are and don't recognize it as any form of privilege. Those who do not get the benefit of the doubt do recognize that others are often granted privileges that they are denied. One thing most people know but don't think about is that when you look straight ahead and there is no mirror their view of the world is really the same other folks. They don't see their own

That strategy worked pretty well for close to 65 years until, of course, the Trump campaign decided they needed neo-nazi's, kluxers and others from the hateful right to make good their 2016 gig, an effort memorialized at Charlottesville. But with the presidential advisor being the publisher of an ezine that sought to lead the alt-right aka: white nationalists ... it is obvious that the conservatives still wish to enlist and absorb these people and be accommodating to them as they make the political decisions as leaders of the government from the white house to speaker of the house to t

The reason these guys want teachers to have guns in the school is because the are sheeple under the influence of the NRA which has only one mission, sell more guns. They've given up their common sense and ability to come to their own judgement instead deferring to the NRA which has only one answer for any gun discussion; more guns, more sales, more fear. It is a formula that got them this far and backing off the stupid notion would mean they were wrong. As they use words only as weapons to divide and conquer their opponents - words are not symbols when they are weapons and are as incap

COWA: The right wing cabal here is emulating on a local level what I call the Alex Jones mentality; part of which is lust for promoting conspiracy theories for the alternative universe without regard for truth. If they were smoking stuff, you know like Jack Nickelson in Easy Rider riffing on the Venusians and their advanced civilization I might could grasp the place from which they come. But these guys - I wouldn't call it imagination, its source is too dark - apparently have tapped into the mother lode of suspicion to fuel and define the confines of their alternative universe on all

Obviously neither of you are well versed or well read regarding folks who do training and hardening of schools. All you offer is false expertise and bluster. I actually referenced a former Army Ranger who ended up being retired from the military as a psychologist of some repute who claims to have trained more LEO and school officials than any one else in a training career (after his lifer hitch in the Army) and who is often criticized by liberals for such statements as saying cops have the best sex of his life after a righteous on-duty killing. His simplified 'explanation' of the nat

The idea is not for the glass to be bulletproof, dogs ... Hell, after penetrating the glass only a fool would stand on the other side close enough in the line of fire to be a victim of the bullet. The effort is to keep the glass barrier from shattering. The guy trying to gain entry could put five or ten bullets in the pane but I bet he couldn't stick his arms through to unlock the door through those little bitty holes that went not through bullet proof glass or even bullet resistant glass; just glass that doesn't shatter and make it easy for the guy to stick his hand in an

Here's a guy who apparently knows a bit about why school shootings occur and how to prevent them. In fact he says that society is already preventing a lot of them but there are several things that can be done far, far short (and with much better effect) than arming teachers which he says is ill advised. A couple of the things? Put laminate on the glass around the exterior doors to prevent a shooter from shooting out a glass pane and gaining entry. Oh, and lock the door. Also lock the classroom doors during class. He offers the notion that we need something like the fire-alarm syst

Heck, I'm watching vice on HBO and they're talking about all the cameras on all the streets and they're paying for them by ticketing people for jaywalking. Most schools have these kinds of hall surveillance systems and while they are vulnerable to being shot out by a guy with a gun, they are, in the schools ubiquitous enough to given LEO a real edge when it comes to identifying where a shooter is and how to approach them. I can't imagine there weren't 'hall monitor cameras" in the school at Parkland. I know that a local man here has installed dozens of hall camera security systems in sch

How about not banning guns but making guns where they can only be shot by the person who actually owns them - the so-called smart gun solution. Then replace the existing guns with these new improved and presumably safer guns that are restricted by real, verifiable background checks, not kids or wackos who couldn't pass a second grade math test, much less a background check. Then for extra support, put entry ports, you know like a foyer that can be 'locked down' effectively trapping a bad actor in an area where they can be controlled. There are numerous architectural designs that could b

I actually remember rather dramatically inscribed pieces of wood at least as large as the baseball bats that used to hand from the wall in a couple of my classes. The wooden item was flat on both sides and had a handle carved from what looked like about a 1"x6"x 2.4' plank that was used to discipline miscreants like me I was a relatively good kid; I don't think I got more than 9; maybe 12 licks over the course of my 12-year local school education; usually given in sets of three. I don't think I was forever scarred by the experience and one instance, in which I was whipped in front of t

But they will never, ever admit that, you know. Why? Because the right wing uses the word right and that means they're right, right. I will admit they've been quite successful combining faulty logic, obstinance and bullying as they focus on power and the money you can steal if you have that power. (There is a reason the deficit balloons every time they take office.) pubby

What was it they spent in the 2016 election cycle? $950 million to elect people to cut taxes. I'm glad they donated $25 million to the traditionally independent black colleges ... but that money typically goes to private institutions and also tends to go toward hiring folks to teach right wing 'thought'. It is just what they do. https://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2015/10/spreading-the-free-market-gospel/413239/ pubby

No, you just need to look at the history of the Koch Brothers ... or just look at the writings of Trump's Education Secy De Voss (or whatever her name is). The agenda of the right, as I understand it, is to get rid of the government schools altogether. Doing so would provide an avenue for another tax break and keeps the lid on the those of other races, which is definitely a plus for the white nationalists in the base. Getting guns in the schools is just paying tribute to the NRA and its insane proposition that an armed society is a polite society. They can make some money and then, when probably the tenth teacher goes nuts (or maybe when a nutzy student grabs the teachers gun) and kills all in his classroom, they can begin to make the pitch

I'm not going to say that the Clinton's are as pure as the driven snow but IMO, equating them to Trump and his broadly criminal cohorts (including Roy Cohn, the guys he met in the gambling business, etc. ) is like comparing Jack Abramoff or Pat Swindal - former GA congressman who was caught taking bribes and Newt Gingrich, a congressman who was just a dick. Another comparison would be Ronald Reagan, who was really in pretty deep cheese over Iran-Contra and Dick Nixon or Spiro Agnew. the Clintons are the most investigated political couple in American history and the only thing they 'caug
