A couple of things, Stradial. Schools are bigger. The number of high schools and rural schools used to be much greater. Graduating classes of 10-20-50 students were common; today the average highschool is 2000 students due to school consolidation. Another trend ... While gun owners are a smaller percentage of the population, the number of guns in 'circulation' has increased dramatically. The variety of munitions is another factor. Communications is much greater and faster today than 50 years ago. While it is true there were live TV cameras in the basement of the Dallas Police in

Because I wanted to know exactly what kind of company you feel comfortable around with guns, I did a search of yahoos with guns on google images and put together this gallery. I guess it does take all kinds:) pubby ... -
Are we accurately measuring threats?

You mean like walking into a restaurant and seeing a lot of yahoos with backpacks, guns and rifles. But they're just exercising their second amendment rights and we're all supposed to be able to stand our ground ... so why scram??? Aren't we all - especially those with large bore pistols on their persons - supposed to feel more secure in these kinds of places. pubby -

The key thing to remember is that the willingness to employ prisoners or, as we did in the Tuskegee experiment just poor blacks in Alabama for medical experiments is basic lack of respect for humanity. One might even call those crimes against humanity and while you and I seek to appeal to our higher angels, those on the right have nothing but contempt for the common man. I've had discussions with folks who wonder why? Why? so many common folks side with those who have literal contempt for them. It is because the right has instilled in these people their attitude that those who oppose the -
We're just having a time reaching the keyboard with our jaws laying on the floor at the absurdity that what you offer as points are facts. Especially comments that we're somehow on the brink of communism. (with assertions of that nature - even taking in to consideration hyperbole - it is difficult not to feel that our intelligence is insulted.) Oh, and Glenn Beck is not an acceptable source for this. As far as the SNL bit ... you do know that the conservative in that exchange is not Jane. pubby This topic is obviously nothing but personal attacks. There is no discussion of t

Guard dad: Name one country that adopts progressive policies (not communist) that features a rich elite and a massive percentage of poor. You can name dozens that are military dictatorships (many of which we supported BTW) that feature just that kind of stratification in its social organization. nuff said. pubby

But you weren't talking about double-blind protocols or things of that nature, Zorro .. you were personalizing this. This is what you and your buds do ... you skirt the issues and make things personal. Again ... you asked, am I going to volunteer to be a guinea pig? The obvious answer is that clinical trials are likely to be in California so that is a silly question. Given the prospect and potential benefit, I will say it is not out of the question but I would expect more information before I volunteered. pubby -

Zorro: There are two 'threads' to this topic. One initiated by DGITW which I think was informative and the other, which revolved around my personal suitability as a subject for medical experimentation - which is boring ... unless of course you want to confess you're channeling Joseph Mengele and look forward to testing, or is that torturing, me. As far as the overall rejection of government mandated vaccines, is that based on the quality of vaccines as they are now, is it based on distrust of government generally and would you not welcome better vaccines with broader applicability? -
What you're looking for would be a form item with vector border art done in a program like Corel Draw. It would be printed to a pdf file which would be converted to a PDF form file that would allow those to who it is distributed, to type their remembrance. You could email out the form as an attachment to everyone (anyone) you want. They can fill in the form, save it and send it back. Y You would then print out the files. Alternately, you just ask for short bits, get an art program or even a word processing program and set up a text box. Copy and paste the contributions into the

The point Zorro is that your post sought to make it about me rather than about the topic. I've fallen for that trap many times and thought for a while we might get beyond that. What makes it a backhand attack is that open discussion of content is what I want and was the purpose of making the post. The plain fact is that posts that kill discussion of interesting topics in the end is a personal attack because it diverts interest from a very interesting topic and turns toward me personally which is ultimately boring. pubby -

Thoughts, DGIW: This is not about forced immunizations and it may be as important or more important as a treatment than for immunization on the forced, grand scale. The important aspect of this has nothing to do with government, forced, youth, school mandated vaccinations ... it however does suggest that there may be better vaccinations being created, not by the pharma companies but the universities and foundations. For instance, the ability to target the main stalk of the flu virus with a genetic alteration introduced through gene therapy - a vaccine in other words- that means y -

Not chicken pox ... frankly one-third of those who contract chicken pox as a youth end up with Shingles which is extremely painful and can cause severe complications including blindness and organ failure. Flu kills 20,000 elderly every year regardless. pubby -
It is not really how rich people think, it is how rich people get rich and in that context, it works. There is nothing wrong with being an employee or a small business owner or a capitalist. What may be wrong - and frankly it is probably based on the timing more than any great moral question - is the tax rate from the earnings of capital. This is probably best understood as the capital gains tax and it about half of that of regular wages. It is how the government rewards those who are 'capitalists' ... it gives them another 15 percent of their money more or less ... based on the p

You mention immune system compromise ... this particular approach appears to be able to set up the cellular factories (the instructions that your muscle cells use to manufacture antibodies) for specific antibodies in those with compromised immune systems. This is just now going into human testing but the exciting thing is that it represents a whole new class of anti-viral medication that actually could be less vaccine in nature than palliative (although I'm sure that it would not work in everyone because of our differences.) Unlike other vaccines, though, the mechanism is pretty repli -

Medical accident claims by attorneys are handled on a percentage basis. Often the attorney will tell you what to do and will be cautious ... i.e. probably ask you to see a doctor to determine if there is any basis for pain and suffering claims or other injuries. I know that personal injury attorneys wont' ask for any money from you and will consult for you with no fee. They will seek for you to be represented by them and for that they will earn a significant percentage of any settlement. If it were me, I'd call George Pennebaker largely because this is his specialty. http://attygeor

Let me propose a what if? What if the generation of broad spectrum fear of others was a governmental ploy by some in the bureaucracy to get more money for their branch of the government. If they are so amoral as to not worry about killing a few hundred here or there ... or maybe even a few thousand ... all with secret agents and fools, could you or I or even those in the trenches grasp that collusion? Trust in government has descended that far. The starter of this topic points to questions over 911. There are those who see FBI involvement in all domestic terror cases even including t -

Actually your comment seems so personal and about as far away as the moon from what I expected (You know a backhand personal attack.) Now I'm not going to fall into that trap so I'll ignore the comment and suggest that maybe someone should think, wow ... this could be big! like on the order of the discovery of antibiotics or vaccines ... a full-spectrum shot that beefs up one's immune system to make you impervious to colds, flu, STDs and cancer. Yep, if you find those folks whose immune systems effectively eradicate common cancers and you isolate the specific antibodies and how they a -

A whole new class of vaccines possibly capable of providing long term immunity to viral diseases from the common flu to possibly ebola and HIV is being readied in the laboratory for human testing. These vaccines use something closer to a gene-splicing approach, from what I gather to essentially teach the body how to generate the anti-bodies rather than depending on the body itself to create the anti-bodies. By moving the anti-body design process from each individuals body to an inject-able adeno-associated virus (AAV), a small, harmless virus that has been useful in gene-therapy trials, the -
I think it is more just the in-the-face style of the gun industry. You know, open carry laws ... and all that jazz. Days after the Columbine school shootings in 1999, the NRA made the controversial decision to hold its national convention in neighboring Denver, Colorado. At that convention, Executive Vice President and CEO Wayne LaPierre embraced some commonsense rules to prevent similar future tragedies which they've repudiated after Sandy Hook. As I think about it, I think it was intentional as the sport shooting federation probably doesn't think that if you find that offensive, yo
