  1. The presumption regarding the hacking of bank accounts without actual monetary theft is somewhat suspicious as to motive. A similar thing happened back in the 1960s when GM put on a full-court press against Ralph Nader after he published the book "Unsafe at any speed" that talked about the Corvair's tendency to roll in sharp maneuvers; pretty much a bad idea for a car marketed as a sporty item. GM went into his bank accounts and snooped enough to warrant a lawsuit regarding invasion of privacy. It was a big deal in those days. That is not to say that "Delta" or even their agents
  2. Yeah, the 'right' in America is benign ... They don't ever hurt anyone. Saw this movie last night on Turner Movie Channel: The punch line is that the guy was targeted by the likes of those following folks like Gerald L.K. Smith and Father Laughlin - big time bigots of the 1930s, 40s and 50s. The reason why, in this movie, was because his glasses made him look "Jewish." And don't forget Cobb County's own "Leo Frank" story when you think about hate crimes. We have hate crime legislation BTW. You know why, don't you. Let me say that the black person drug behind a picku
  3. How do you feel. I think you were here in Paulding when Mason Rountree challenged Bill Heath on his opposition and killing of the law that would prohibit this act in Georgia ... by expanding prohibition of that practice to include any 'mutilation' presumably including tattoos and piercings I guess anywhere but the ear lobe. Oh, and because MR challenged his effort, he came back at him with his infamous "sex shoppes in Dallas" mailer in the runoff. Of course I'm against that practice. Let me rewrite that for you. Muslim women in America do not wear Burkas which cover ever
  4. In the movie "Paul" with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, the two are geeky Brits with sci-fi writing ambitions. The two find themselves near area 51 where they pick up a surviving alien who has been at the facility since 1947 and has given up all the information he can tand is now slated for dissection by the evil American Government. Hence Paul escapes and takes refuge with the characters played by Pegg and Frost. In any case, one of the bits is that Frost has created a sci-fi comedy that has, emblazoned on its front, an alien woman with three boobs = hence the inspiration. (I can't say tha
  5. It was less than a 100 years ago that we denied the vote to women. A mere 150 years ago we held people as slaves, right here on this part of God's earth. Even today, in some of the fundamentalist religions, women are required to conform to a particular style of dress. Alternately, there are Muslim areas in the world where Muslim woman actually do not follow the traditional dress. Even in some of the more conservative areas - including enclaves in Iran, western dress is common. Religious cults - Waco's Branch Davidians and there are others - are notorious for treating women as serva

  8. That only makes sense if you believe that polluted air and water are an asset and that global climate change is a good thing that ought to be accelerated. On the tax thing, recognize that taxes are imminently negotiable and are among the duties that all people - even the paper ones that now have freedom of speech, for instance, to pay. In any cases taxes and their structure should strive to be predictable and adequate to fund the spending of the government. pubby
  9. I've always thought that school was joke, newsjunky. I also intuit ... and I think most people have gained this understanding as well ... that there is more than one way to skin a cat (or educate a child.) BTW: one of the reasons that the schools now resemble prisons is because of the fears of parents. The kids are kept in .. and from their perspective - that seems prison like where as the authorities motives are not so much that they want to keep them in; rather their motive is to keep them safe by keeping others out. Hence, the prison like atmosphere is less a goal of school adm
  10. Surepip: You say respect for authority ... Consider for a moment that respect may a mutual thing. Schools, like all of the society, has changed and changed since your kids have left ... even. I've heard it said today that schools are more like prisons. Classes aren't about learning and exploring knowledge; it is about being drilled and drilled about passing the standardized tests. Any zest or lust for knowledge is basically wrenched from their souls by a system that we inherited from the 1800s. Some - many in fact - ask the question that lurks like an elephant in the room.
  11. I went to google ... saw dozen's of graphs from various sources. The one I chose was from Washington monthly. It appeared on the search page. It wasn't that hard: Let me google that for you As far as your diatribe talking about declining incomes, yes those are real numbers. The problem is that to do what needed to be done ... to add additional stimulus .. was denied by the Republican House beginning in January 2011 and every request for an direly needed jobs program, public infrastructure program, etc. was met with what we've all know is a DO NOTHING, kNOw NOTHING CONGRESS whos
  12. Only 15-20-25% of the Muslims are radicals? I would seem from the rhetoric that you folks think 100 percent of the Muslims are extremists and comments in this topic, like "The only good Muslim is a dead Muslim" tend to confirm the inclusiveness. Still, even those percentage rates are not sourced nor are they qualified. Indeed, what constitutes a 'radical' Muslim? Is that synonymous with jihadi? Are all fundamentalist Muslims - typically those who really believe the word of the Koran is inerrant - jihadi's? For the record the WAPO story I cited, suggested that roughly the same percenta
  13. Actually, we know that for the most part American Muslims are very much like 'us' ... Let me clarify. There are, just like us, some bat-crazy fundamentalist Muslims - about the same proportion as a matter of fact as there are bat-crazy fundamentalist Christians. And in that 'universe' there are wonderful, sweet people - probably 99.9% of the Christians and 99.5% of the Muslims - but the balance - those are the really, crazy ones - are bat-cheese crazy and they are what this post is about. So, just as we know there are fundamentalist, conservative Muslims who yell bat-crazy inflam
  14. If I recall, the shedding of jobs started in 2008 before the election but slowed when Obama was in office. Here, let me show you. The red denotes GWB administration ... things were just getting worse and worse ... and the blue denotes Obama's administration and things got better and better. I understand that disinformation like you presented is the only way to avoid the blame but damn, you can't wish lie away the truth. pubby

  16. This could be some rather earth-shattering information for parents of autistic children and maybe even autistic adults; especially the notion or idea that there may be a way to mitigate the affliction with a new and unique treatment. Dr. Pillai is a bit hard to understand - kind of like some customer service folks - but from what I gathered from his 5-minute piece, the autistic brain seems to suffer from too much testosterone, a paucity of an enzyme that converts testosterone to estrogen in the brain and ultimately the lack of estrogen receptors. Another bit on another scientific
  17. Easy: Those who say the world is going to hell in a hand basket; claim that crime is up when it is measurably down, and otherwise hype fear fuel the perception that we need an all-knowing government with police who are infallible and all-knowing to keep the infidels barbarians in their place. Said differently, the assertion that crime is increasing and that we are all in great and increasing danger due to the continued rise in crime - a proposition that is statistically and demonstrably not true, are making the case that we need security, not freedom. That's how you got into it.
  18. Here is the 2013 NOVA edition of Drones ... the PBS outfit that gives an in depth and relatively credible view of what's what. In this video, the thing to keep in mind is that domestically, drones are likely to be flying round being that proverbial eye in the sky ... potentially 24/7. One of the drones explored included on that would fly at great altitude (above thunderstorms - about 12-15 miles up) for periods as long as a year. The potential that these devices would be able to capture 24/7 video over a comparatively large area with great clarity (viewing items as small as six-i
  19. It is a very, very, very remote possibility in regard to Paulding but ... as this example shows ... not so remote in regard to operations at HJIA and Delta. But the anti folks are defending HJIA and Delta claiming the danger is much higher for us here when the danger actually comes from their buds in Clayton county. pubby

  21. The corruption of government requires two parties ... government workers who are willing to defer to private interests and private interests that choose to corrupt the government workers. That our current election campaign system, rules and culture guarantee willing government workers (basically successful candidates are backed by money) and certain private interests that insist on the status quo so they can continue the game that system is at fault. That it happens in big pharma is as obvious as it happened with mega-developer robber barons on a local basis. The efforts of these corr
  22. As this documentary presented in the months before Edward Snowden made his revelations, the erosion of privacy in today's was in part based on the desire for security above all else. The problem is that bipartisanism actually does exist when it comes to building the surveillance society. I've watched this and given that one of the key guests is a Cato Institute fellow, you can rest assured that it is not some so-called liberal diatribe ... nor is it a conservative tome. Rather it is as the host maintains, what is next after what is next ... or an explanation of the trajectory we are on.
  23. Actually, I understand where you come from on this. I suspect that some of this may happen but I am also aware that the HPV which must be given to young girls prior to their sexual awakening to protect them from cervical cancer went afoul of the sexual taboos of the right. The real travesty regarding the vaccines ... is Congress willingness to require these things and then eliminate any recourse in court from those who inevitably suffer unintended consequences. pubby
