I'm glad that cop was not the president in 1962 or we'd all be dead. pubby

Maher's broad brush of the utter worthlessness of those in the region because of their religion suggests that nuking them is the key. The point is they are not our enemy. They are their own enemy. With my plan of whack-a-mole and not playing favorites, all we're doing is letting them kill each other and in so-doing, making sure - making them the promise that victory through violence is futile ... because when the begin to succeed, we whack 'em. If they're all in the morass - no one is winning - we leave them alone to their own hell ... but with the admonition again, that there is no

One of the reasons for the rise has been laws like three strikes and you're out ... or Georgia's two-strikes law. Some youths stay stupid longer than others and, the strikes all come by the time they wise up. pubby

Well first, Bill Maher is pretty broad in his condemnation of all Muslims. Second, what would I do. I'd have used the air to aid the Kurds and the Christian sect assaulted on the mountains. I think it was appropriate to cost ISIS their refinery. Depending on the quality of the intelligence, I would target leadership based in part on their georgraphy. To wit, since I'm far from comfortable with Assad (Syrian's dictator) I don't know if I would have hit ISIS that hard near Syrian strongholds ... unless of course there was good intelligence otherwise. Obviously, I'd have taken out

I understand that between 60 and 70 percent of the crimes those in prison are in for non-violent crimes. pubby

The reason I mention the GOP is that whatever Obama states as a policy, the GOP complains. Beyond that, you miss the point that the only thing we have control over is our actions and reactions. Bottom line, it is our decision and yes, I do complain about the waffling from right (McCAin) to ??? (Rand Paul?) I figure you're with McCain and Lindsey Graham on this - bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb bomb iran. why? Because they're Muslim. But ISIS is their enemy and they want to bomb them? ... nuke em all says Stradial. and you want to do that even if it hairlips everyone on Racoo

The US incarcerates more people than any other nation on earth. The trend over the past decades has been up and up but now prison populations are declining ... for the first time in decades. Does this make you feel safer? ... or less safe? pubby

It is a show called media mayhem. Thought it was worth a play. Do you think the explanation was good, bad or wrong?

You are so wrong. My complaint with the GOP is not based on any interest in surrendering. Here is an analogy of the options you create. You walk into a room and you see this gorgeous woman - your opponent - sitting at a table with a chess board with play already commenced. As a charter member of the he-man woman haters club, you are scared as hell. She makes a move and takes a pawn. You look at her in a bewildered manner, tongue tied and groping for words but none come. From what I gather, you see your only options at this point would be to surrender or, I guess, pull the pin on

Happy to oblige. There was one black woman's image and that image was obviously distorted via photoshop to make it appear hideous. The images of those whom side with you include no black women and were obviously photoshopped to enhance their appearance. The few competent women with whom you agree didn't appear (Condi Rice) and we can only assume that you feel her appearance - blackness maybe - would destroy the point. Those women with whom you disagree, including the only black woman on the poster, intentionally had images selected that were, lets be kind, not the image of themselve

Note your silly word and, reading the NYTimes moments ago, I found another one you'll find enlightening if not entertaining. Yep, cranemec, spoken like a true Banana-Republican. pubby

GD: Calling those images 'funny' was the first racist and second sexist act in this topic. Your obvious failure to recognize that simply insults the intelligence of the rest of us. pubby PS: When you hear a racist or sexist joke and don't speak up, you are 'enabling' and even endorsing that aberrant behavior. Not speaking out when you see that kind of crap, GD, is an act of intellectual dishonesty.

You and pepperhead brought up the topic which is the source of the insult . Ffrankly, I just glanced at the first image or two in the top gallery and I seen Ann Coulter and Michelle Bachmann instead of the Fox news divas, I'd have asked which panel was supposed to represent beauty. BTW, the image of Michelle Obama is so obviously photoshopped it screams racist bigot. Did you do the artwork? pubby

Stradial: You're watching too much porn. Still, I have to say I like my take. Yep, I think pepperhead and Guard Dad are secretly channeling Dr. Strangelove ... in more ways than one. pubby

Guard dad: Let's face it, the Republican women on your post are prettier and no doubt were selected more for their beauty than their brains by the oligarchs that made that preference. And that is very, very, very important when you perceive this scene as predictive of your future. pubby

The difference is that Houma LA is not Ferguson, MO. I don't think even New Orleans had riots when MLK, jr. was killed - certainly not like the riots in DC, LA, Detroit and Chicago. I think in the south, the members of the black community know that they'd face, not 200 cops in riot gear ready to toss tear gas, but 2000 red necks with 100 round magazines who think it is open season on dark skinned people. In other words, the history in the south of large demonstrations still conjures images like this scene from the Edward Pettus Bridge on Bloody Sunday. The experience in t

I suppose the good news is that he's not indicted (or convicted felonies like these two Republican AG's) John N. Mitchell - Obstruction of justice or Attorney General Richard Kleindienst Heck, he avoided the lightening rod effect that Alberto Gonzales, who penned the legal decisions endorsing torture at GITMO and conducted the US Attorney Purge or even argued that the right to habeus corpus is 'not a right inherent' in the constitution. But hey, as the party who placed in office two men who ended up committing crimes for which they were convicted, we all just need

Wow - plaudits and awards from bureaucrats who work for regulators. One of the biggest problems that exist in merit civil service positions is a concept called 'capture.' It works every which way but loose. Some people enter civil service in a specialized technical area and begin regulating folks in private industry. Some are straight as an arrow and others are looking for any angle. One obvious angle comes when they visit, say a plant for an inspection, and discover the guy who represents the business used to have his job at the 'agency' - doesn't matter which agency you u

Sure: The first world war could have been averted by avoiding the kinds of treaties that we've repeated with NATO ... i.e. treaties that compelled other countries to come to the aid of others automatically ... and the assassin could have missed the Serbian Prince. You'll note that the US didn't enter that war for several years ... it started in 1914 and we didn't enter until 1918. WWII was a direct result of WWI in that the peace extracted was highly disruptive to the German economy forcing the failure of the Weimar Republic which was combined with the economic collapse and world-w

No. and I didn't say that they hacked the folks on the AP authority or commission. I'm just saying that stranger things have happened and cited the very public, very much on the record investigation of Ralph Nader by GM as a proven example. I.e. things like that have happened before. As far as your son, tundra ... remember the NSA is under Obama pubby

Given both these 'prophets' lived more than 1000 years ago, before the invention of photography, any posting of a so-called likeness would be pulled from whole cloth anyway. I'm not any more enamored of one group or the other when it comes to religious fundamentalists. Rather I'm simply against perpetual war, which is to me a stupid, stupid idea. And Zorro, tell me how bombing and bombing for untold years or even putting troops on the ground and repeating the fiasco of the Iraqi war of 2003 is going to result in anything other than perpetual war, with hundreds of thousands of civilia
