  1. One of my relatives has a problem with their 17 year old. Is there a scared straight program somewhere close that she could contact? She can not seem to get the sense into his head and afraid he will quit school. Please let me know if you know of a program somewhere around us.

Don't know about a scared stright program but when my son was 17 and starting to get into trouble I sent him to military school in Savannah. It was through the GA National Guard Program. He left there with his high school diploma and a learned trade. If you are interested it is called GA National Guard Youth Challange.

  2. I think it would be a great business and ought to be welcomed, not shunned.

Before you reject it out of hand, ask yourself would you be against it if it were called the Betty Ford Center?

If you'd welcome the latter, you should see that this is essentially the same business and, as a business, would help address Paulding's greatest failing... which is its reliance on homeowners for taxation.

For instance, instead of 600 or so homes with 1000 kids in the schools, this development would not likely add a single child to the local schools.

    Pubby-

Not only will it keep the 600 or so homes from being built it will also offer a place locally where Pauldings drug problems can be addressed.

All to often we folks in the county complain about our rampant drug problems but there are no residential treatment facilities locally.

  3. I tried for several years to get on with one of the schools in either of these positions. Sub'ed for a long time just to try and get in. I don't think I was "not" offered a full time position because I wasn't qualified, I just don't think I knew the right people.

Good Luck in your venture. The hours would rock- so would summers off with the kids!

  4. It is best to send a certified letter to the person. That way you can prove in court that you have notified them if they don't sign for the letter and never pick it up it is OK. You have proof that you tried to contact them at the last known address.

After you have given them notice and they do not respond you can take the check to the magistrate court and swear out a warrant. Unless it is a felony check the warrant is not an active warrant, meaning they will not go out to pick the person up; however if they are pulled over or go to renew their DL they will be arrested. They then have to pay the check plus any fees before they are released.

  5. Hubby and I go see Dr Parker at the Humber Clinic in Marietta. They are not your average pop and twist chiropractors.

Hubby had 2 buldging disk, had shots in his back, and was looking at surgery to correct them. Someone we know recommended them and he went in for his first visit. Dr Parker told him then if I can help you I will and if I can't I will tell you I can't.

At any rate, he did give him an adjustment and he went back 2 times a week for about a month. Hubby now goes in about every 3 months for an adjustment. He no longer has the pain that he had before that first visit. He had been pretty much bed ridden for a month before going in to see the doc.

After hubby went he tried to get me to go forever, I tend to get alot of aches and burning sensations in my neck and shoulders. After I went for the first time he fixed me right up. As a matter of fact it is probably time for an adjustment now.

    Good luck in you quest.

  6. Not yet. they are working on it and are real close. I seen shakey yesterday him and his family came over yesterday and he is really making progress, he had his staples removed on saturday and was so proud that they are out.. they are suppose to go and look at the crime scene photos today, and we do not know how he will react to seeing those pics. seeing himself messed up like he was, his mom said she would let me know how it went, and with her permission I will let you guys know..

Thanks for the update on Shakey. Please keep us informed if you can on how he is doing and how the case is coming along.

  7. Community Trust Bank- 9. The only reason I give them a 9 instead of a 10 is I wish they had a location going out toward the Rockmart area. Their customer service is outstanding. I have been with them for 15 years. They ALWAYS treat me as if I were on of their "big" money people although I am really just chump change!!

BOA- I do have a checking account with them but I rate them about a 4. They never know who you are, if you want to call the bank for something you have to speak to someone clear accross the country. Just don't like being a little fish in a big sea.

Regions- so far I would give them a 10. I use Regions for my business checking and they have been wonderful. The location that I use is not in Dallas however.

  8. Nah, even homeschooled kids have screwed up parents .. and sex if they can get away with it.

I have an 11 year old who will be in 6th grade next year .. so the 12 and 13 really baffle me.

Mine too. My fifth grader will be 11 in May. My 13 year old however is in the 8th grade.

    Go figure?

  9. Pawn shops do not pay a whole lot, but if you decide to go that route please go talk to them at Patriot Pawn. They are next to Paulding Quick Bail and they are affiliated. Really great people over there.

Your question about how do they work, Pawn shops will either take something in on Pawn- meaning you are taking out a loan and you are to pay back the money with interest within a specified period of time. They also take things in strictly as a sale- if you have no intention of picking the items back up they will buy them from you.

Many times if you are going in and selling something to them they will give you more money then if you were going to simply pawn them.

Good luck with selling your camcorders.

  10. It is about that time again for me to renew my auto insurance. I have been with Nation Wide for about 7 years now. I have thought about shopping around for insurance when it comes time to renew. Not that I am not satisfied with Nation Wide, I am just wondering if there is any auto insurance out there that might be less expensive.

I have 4 cars, a boat, and a camper all on one policy so my insurance is pretty expensive.

Do you shop around when it comes time to renew?

Who do you have yours with?

Are you satisfied with their services?

Have you had to use them for a claim and did they treat you right when you did?

  11. My digital camera I have now is one of the first to have come out. They have come so far since then. I am ready for a new one.

    What do you guys recommend.

What do you like/dislike about the one you have?

I am looking to spend $500.00 or so on a new one.

Don't want anything to complicated to work but I do want some nice features and a good zoom.

  12. I have a question about using credit cards for meals and tips. When the waiter gives you your bill, you give the waiter your card, he scans that card and brings out your receipt and you add the tip to that piece of paper and sign it. Since he has already given me my card back, how is the tip then added to the charge? Is the ticket voided and rerun? And, if they redo the bill, why don't I have to sign it again? I thought those machines only retained the last four digits of your card number (according to my hairdresser anyway). I hadn't really thought about this before this discussion so I plan to be a lot more diligent in the future. And, I'd still love to know those restaurant names since we eat out more than we eat in!

As a rest owner- you can go in at the end of the shift and edit any credit card transactions, not debit cards to add in tips.

I have never had anyone (thank goodness) scam any od my customers. I did have a customer come in and complain that we overbilled her debit card one time. We pulled our copy of her receipt and it matched hers exactly. Her bank had actually messed up. Together we called her bank and got everthing strightened out.
