I use the bar for stains--I use Oxy-Clean in spray bottle to wet the stain and rub the bar in the stain. I have let it soak for a couple of days--re-wetting with Oxyclean and rubbing the bar in the stain again. I've done this lots of times with no damage/discoloration to the fabric. IMO--letting it 'soak' a while is better. On stubborn stains, I will use the above method and even repeat it if stains were not removed. It seems to work even on stains on clothes that have been dryed in the dryer. Good Luck!

True, but diaries are a good start. The book "Civil War diaries of Charles E. Smith" is a great book. It is very interesting. There are many diaries by soldiers from the Civil War.
