  1. My church is making a shift to doing more local mission work. This year, we will be increasing our community outreach. We will be hosting a meal, and pick up, for a local homeless women and children's shelter and rehab next month. We will be providing a family meal and a gift of love to the women in the way of baskets of necessities. I thought that this is a great way for us to clean out some of the crap that we have in our cabinets. Did you get candles for Christmas that don't go with your decor? Get that cheap bottle of lotion from a co-worker that you'll never use? Did you recentl
  2. Sadie...I just installed the Bible app on my iPad...it AWESOME for taking notes at church and bible study.
  3. In this picture, the one twin clearly looks...different.
  4. The baby's leg does seem noticeably large, but apparently it's been the child's lack of standing or supporting herself (her twin is doing this - you know when you hold a baby and can't get the knees to bend? So, I'm guessing that's why she didn't concern herself until now. They think it's spinal, which is really sad. And yes, the chick living in the basement - I do feel badly for her. It sucks to have other people in control of your life AND know that you're not wanted. But, she doesn't seem to be in too big a hurry to change things or look for a solution either.
  5. It's awesome. There's a local one as well, www.cobbdailydeals.com. Lots of great ones there too!
  6. And you probably have 2 people in the house to do the cooking, cleaning, yard work, laundry, etc. on top of what you mentioned before. Our homework is always done, because the teacher is the boss and one thing is certain, my son will one day have a boss.
  7. Excellent. Let me know when you've worked out the math to give me a few more hours in the day the do both.
  8. Did you go to Hogwarts? What high school has lectures?
  9. Oh bless your heart. If you think they're going to wear blue jeans to a WEDDING, best just to leave those folks off the list.
  10. So, you're sitting in church...and you see this... And you don't judge? You can lie to me, but you can't lie to God. Jus' saying'.
  11. Yeah, I get it. Jesus loved the prostitutes...Still, have some friggin decorum. And yes, it's for me to judge. If you're showing it to me, I'm going to judge it. Generally speaking, I don't see a million butt cracks a day...so when I do, I usually notice.
  12. You're about 2 weeks too late on a 4 page thread about this topic. But, CE is right. No one wants to see your junk, at church or otherwise.
  13. Some of you will remember Jem, the short lived animated series and doll collection. Well, for the last 7 years, they actually have been hosting a weekend long conference, JemCon. This year, it's in Holland (yes, it's been in the US!). JemCon. Huh. I wonder if this is like a Furry Convention, where a bunch of people that like Jem get together and have really weird sex all weekend with eachother.
  14. I might try it tonight. I really have a hard time looking at Steven Tyler. And I'm not just saying that. Everytime I see him I have this strong desire to touch his face - as if to discover what it's made out of...or put it top of the newspaper comics and see if it makes a print. He really looks like the missing link to me.
  15. Welll....a certain member that posted at ad nauseum about her wedding...and then recently told pcom she's happy single from her "soul mate". I suppose thats full moon worthy...
  16. And for the record, our homework time IS family time as well. BUT, I can stay at home on Saturday to do science or take him to the Tellus museum to see and touch science. Which is more valuable?
  17. You're absolutely right. My son loves to read, (he's , journals on his own, loves crosswords...he's in 3rd grade. By this grade, his strengths and defeciencies are apparent, yet the homework is still one size fits all. Why should I give up precious time for that?
  18. I respectfully disagree. I think his brain is like mine...he sees in pictures, sees the words and MOST importantly learned phonics, which they have taken out of the public school system. Still, in college (or senior year), you can ace pre-exams and be exempt from finals. Our public schools do NOT prep for college, let alone life.
  19. I orally quiz my son on his spelling words on Monday (when they start new words). Every time, he gets all of them right (he's a big spelling bee champ)...so, why should he spend 15 minutes a night writing them 3 times each (not to mention, he's never gotten less than a 95 in his handwriting and has been writing in cursive since gradeK) every night? The teachers get 6 hours a day (minimum) and I get 3 (maximum). Sorry, but that doesn't make sense to me. Now, he struggles more in math - so why not give him extra math and less spelling? Because homework is the same for every student in e
  20. I don't know, LGM. My son has, at minimum, an hour of study M, T, and Thurs. As a single mom, I do treasure our weekends, even roadtrips as it gives us a time to talk. Plus, Sunday is given to God with church and lunch and the evening of togetherness. While I wouldn't tell a teacher how to run their class, this is a bit why I have decided to pay tuition. When your kids are in public school, there's no say. In private, I can ask that my son have a bit of extra work during the week instead of the weekend. Most, MOST, of homework is busy work and a bit unecessary if a teacher is doing their
  21. I have NO hard feelings. I was a middle of the road person in school...friends with everyone. It's just interesting that so many people are, internally, so unhappy. I do feel badly for them. It's just funny that the more people try to put our their perfection, the more tormented they really are.
