  1. That's just it, all parents, and children should have a choice. Did you know that if your kid has an IEP they can go to a private school? Yes, if you don't think your public school is good enough, you can send them to private school. It is paid for with your tax dollars. A case of the money following the child, perhaps? I used to be the parent that believed that in order for your school to get better you had to stick with it, and make it better. I'm starting to believe that's not right. I don't know what the answer is. I have begun to think that if the parents have real money on the li
  2. I was leaning to no, now I'm leaning to yes. There are many reasons for both. But, to address your teachers are the greatest idea. If my son has his schedule changed, and the new teacher makes contact to let me know what books are being read TO the class. Then yes. that would be a cordial teacher. To bad that hasn't happened. When I have to ask what materiel is being used (not once, but three times) before I get an answer, I have a problem with that. When the teachers ask for help then blow you off when you offer it, that's not cordial. Yet, they are the first ones to bitch about not havin

Actually it makes perfect sense. Your just not getting it. Look I don't care what color you are, how much money you make or anything else. We would be one of the first people to ask if you needed help mowing the lawn, or fixing things up. I just don't see a reason to pay some one to force others to do what to me is logic.

Actually, I'm just reading the "like minded" comments, and laughing my butt off. Some have been called out on their wording used in this thread. My point is that had some others used the same wording they would have been called raciest. Yet some on this board who say they are so "tolerant" are the least tolerant. Look if you want to live in a neighborhood with an HOA go for it. Personally I don't. Yes, I do have family, and friends that live in HOA communities. They either hate it or love it.

Boy, you people sure do get your panties in a wad over being called out. The fact is some (most) people want the place where they live to look nice. However, they are adults, and don't need some other group of people telling them how to keep up their property.

Nope, don't like NASCAR. Don't hunt either. I do love my Gators though. Now if my husband had his way we might have a camouflaged fence.

Look ya got a problem with your neighbor? Go talk to h/er. How many status symbols do you have? Do you have to put balloons on your HOA approved mailbox just so folks can find your house?

Your right, it's about "classism." Because you know "those people" don't take care of anything. Why just look at the hood they come from. Look it simply comes down to money. All is well, and good until it affects MY pocket book. HOAs can be fine IF there are community pools, playgrounds, tennis courts, etc. But, if there aren't then why would you want to pay some one to be YOUR bad guy? If you want to live in "Stepford" go for it.

OMG If some other folks were to type the same crap some of you "tolerant" folks have typed, this would have turned into a race thing. Gotta love the hypocrisy. Just for grins, and giggles "I'm going to bookmark this." :saidinmymostcondescendingvoice:

Wait.....WHAT????? Just what does that mean?
  18. And, that right there is the crux of the whole thing. Parents like us who are involved, and give a dang are the exception. What would happen if our public schools started requiring parents to volunteer? Not, ask, require. If we don't want the charter schools then we (parents) must make the changes. I think that may be what he was talking about.
  19. I know this. We better check if hell is freezing over, I'm agreeing with you. I do understand all that you stated. However my first concern is for my own child, and grandchildren. For us, this may be a great alternative. I also have a problem with an appointed group of people deciding these things. But, I also don't think we need to throw more money at the schools, hoping that will make them better.
  20. I'm still on the fence, but one of the requirements is that parents must be involved is a big selling point for me. Before anyone starts with the "single parent, or both parents working" garbage, get over it. My mother was a single mom, and made it to all of mine, and sister's activities. My husband, and I both worked when our oldest kids were in school, somehow we were always able to be involved with their stuff too. I know a few single parents, and married/cohabiting couples, they always seem to be involved. Oh, and throwing money at our public schools works, so well. When folks st
  21. I'm not liking the whole "opt out" deal. I don't think you should be forced to do anything against your will. Oh, and how are they going to get around that whole religious issue? There are too many questions, and not enough information on how they think this could be done as long as we have (allegedly) three branches of government.
