Father who left child in hot car charged with murder
SushiBoofay replied to NinaBritt's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I wouldn't think so because they probably would have found the jar of Vick's on him or in the car during processing. He could have turned the air on high and breathed through his mouth and maybe (???) have blocked it out. I think I read it takes about 15 minutes when you breathe through your mouth to block out the sensory of smell...but I don't remember if that is right or not. -

It would have happened quickly though once the car filled with water and it was late October so the water was cold. Sitting in the car like that would have been agonizingly slow and from the marks on Cooper (mentioned during the hearing), it sounded like he must have been crying and hitting his head against the back of the car seat. Just wish someone had come out for an early lunch and seen him. Since I write mysteries (and am a true crime buff), I can usually sort of half-way rationalize the thinking for what some of these idiot people do (Susan Smith thought she could get her boyfriend -

Going under the guise that the father knew HOW he was going to do it and it was premeditated - I still can't comprehend why he would choose that particular method for his son. I keep going back to that statement he made to his wife about how he dreaded how he would look...he researched people and animals in a car...surely, he knew the boy was going to suffer. The ONLY way I could see him coming to the conclusion ("yeah, this is a good idea...") would be that he realized the boy wasn't his and wanted to punish the wife and hated the boy for not being his. Otherwise, (my logic) wouldn't it have -

Maybe we will learn more if the wife turns on him. Since he said "I didn't know he would look like that" (or something to that affect) to his wife - it just kind of makes me think that seeing his son like that was worse than what he thought it would be. Of course...that would give him a bit of a heart and I don't think he has one. -

I did hear that he cursed when he was told to get off the phone. I guess the defense will try to make it seem like the police lied about that if there is no record. I've thought about his initial reaction...Although he may have been acting - I kind of wondered if "What have I done?" was more of a stomach punch to him as he realized he had actually murdered his son (the reality of what he did) rather than discovering he had left the boy in the car by mistake. -

Sociopaths have no conscience, so it is hard for them to believe they will get caught as they tend to think they are smarter than everyone else. I kind of doubt that two sociopaths would find each other and marry, then decide to get rid of their kid, however, I think there is more at play here. (I also think that I am a little overly fixated on this case...my poor brain just can't comprehend how someone could leave a young boy in a vehicle knowing they would die) -

I think (???) it was a text. I hope it was. Lot harder to explain! It seems strange to me that he went to such extremes (life insurance, video watching) to allegedly (!) plan the thing and then did so many stupid things. It even occurred to me that maybe he threatened the wife with killing the boy and he has conditioned her by mentally abusing her....but...I suspect...she went along with it because she didn't want to lose him to the other women. -

Yeah, I thought it was rather unusual and there have been no alerts sent out by the PCSO, but I shared it on FB page just in case. -

i Either Chanbel 46 or 5 had an article on FB today that said a source told them that the police hadn't pushed hard on her yet because they wanted the wife to be in court when the sexting was brought up. It sounded like she knew he had an affair (affairs?) in the past, but they don't think she thought he was still seeing anyone. They are hoping she will turn on him. -

Here's the comments that make me think he knew what he did and she knew more about it than she is admitting. (from CNN) http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/03/justice/georgia-hot-car-toddler-death/index.html?hpt=hp_c2 He also testified that when Ross and Leanna Harris were in an interview room, Ross Harris told his wife that Cooper looked "peaceful" and that his eyes were closed when he was removed from the vehicle. He told his wife, "I dreaded how he would look," Stoddard said, noting how Harris had used the past tense. The detective added that the boy's eyes and mouth were not closed when he was -

WSB may put a recording of the hearing on their website. If you can stand to watch it - it will erase doubt that it was an accident. The smell in the car was apparently so bad that a detective had trouble with it a couple of hours AFTER the boy was removed. They all said that the car seat was too small and the boy's head was only about six inches away from the father. I believe he is a sociopath. I'm not sure what to think about his wife - other than she may be in serious denial or he abused her mentally. or...she was in on it... -

I'm wondering if it is going to come out these two were swingers or something - although it did sound like he was having affairs - didn't mention anything about her knowing. -

Did I understand correctly that the scratch marks on Cooper's face were self-inflicted? The only thing I can say is that it sounds like it happened quickly. The boy was in the car at 9:30 and had passed by lunch time. I'm glad it wasn't an all day ordeal for the poor fellow. -

Yeah, I meant to mention that too. The daycare worker replied "oh, no --- maybe he decided to take him to lunch." The detective did say that some people have had no reaction like that to news that someone died, so it's not completely uncommon, but for BOTH parents....hmmmm..... -

I've been watching it while eating lunch. About to get back to work - I don't see any way they will not move on toward trial. Defense has punched a few holes in what the detective said, so he may get bail, but I kind of doubt it. -

These are responses from the detective who is being interviewed by DA D etective: Justin Ross Harris did not cry when talking about son to detectives. Detective: Justin Ross Harris’ wife, Leanne, said Cooper must’ve been left in car when he was not at daycare. Detective: Leanne Harris’ mother asked her why she wasn’t crying – She responded that she “must be in shock.” While husband and wife were talking after being left alone in interview room together: Detective: Leanne asked Justin Ross Harris “did you say too much? Detective: Justin Ross Harris said “I can’t believe this i -

I'm wondering if the mother was trying to cover for her husband. I wonder if he had already made those statements and she knew this or if they both really did search. I remember Casey Anthony's mother claimed she was the one who searched for chloroform on the Internet. -

I thought about that too. But I think they said the boy was alive at Chil-fil-a. I wondered if he thought he might play the hero by saving the boy, but it was too late. If she was researching too though and he mentioned having a dream about the boy being with Jesus - it sounds like there might be a bigger creepier motive going on here. -

This is just getting creepy now: Leanna told mourners she is not angry at her husband and called him a great father and great leader for Cooper. Leanna went on to say she would not bring Cooper back into this selfish world. Ross Harris' father also spoke to the crowd sharing a story about how his son Ross had a dream Cooper was sitting on Jesus’ lap looking down at them, before the boy's death. http://www.wsbtv.com/news/news/local/cobb-county-father-makes-jailhouse-call-sons-funer/ngT8H/ -
