  1. Dead on! You need to be vocal, I had to deal with extended family that were racist. I let them know quickly I don't do that, I don't expose my kids to it. too many just be quiet and let their feelings get trampled on.
  2. Worry like hell when someone who just come into the family is looking for money. I saw a guy's wife die and him re marry. By the time she was done a wealthy man was broke. He had already signed some things to his kids and she wanted him to make them give 1/2 back and get her name on it! At that point folks stepped in and removed her from the situation but so much including two air planes gone and the money not found. John is in his late 80's and should be wealthy, he lives with his daughter and is broke. I would simply let her know this has nothing to do with you, you are new here and th
  3. Play devil's advocate and look at the good. Kids that smoke are more prone to be in troubled situations and sometime a connection with a respected teacher helps them. I made great connections with a couple teachers that way. As the punk ass kid I was if they just sat me down to talk to me we would not have connected. I loved writing essays in high school taking the hard argument even if I did not agree. I did one on giving students an indoor smoking lounge like the teachers had, I wish I still had. At that time students were upset and wanted a place indoors! Circa 1983
  4. I guess it depends you you grew up as schools in NY had them until about 2000. My kids were shocked that a pvt elementary school had a beer and wine tent at their Spring fundraiser.
  5. Where I grew up in NY I smoked with my HS home room teacher before school. Teachers could not give a student a light or cig but a student could give one to a teacher. If they knew what we smoked with our bus drivers...better be quiet I don't know the statue of limitations on that one..
  6. You may want to actually. Turner had this policy in the 90's and it stood the test of courts. It still stands today, the precedent set, so yes you can choose to hire those that will bring down the overall costs. Now what we are seeing as a result of these court battles is insurance companies through employers offering a smokers and non smokers rate. Up until these precedents were set we only seen this on individually purchased health insurance. So now both the employer and employee pay more so obviously employers are going to want non smokers. I am not saying I agree or disagree but in b
  7. This link explains that if you have Windows 8 pro you can downgrade free, it is not an option with Windows 8 Basic http://www.myce.com/news/microsoft-will-allow-downgrades-from-windows-8-63554/
  8. I say lets start leagues for the roid heads, let them all poison themselves. It can be like the WWE of football, cycling, baseball etc... . That way we not only wager on the immediate entertainment, we can wage bets on life spans, organ failures, strokes and so on. We get the upfront fun of massive people brutalizing each other then long term we have them do reality TV so we can watch them come a part. America's two favorite past times, sports and reality TV train wrecks all on steroids, how much better could the boob tube get!
  9. I do agree with many on simple obesity, ideal for me at 6' is 170, I feel like a twig at that weight. Reading back through I should have used the term morbid obesity to better define this group. The reality of many current studies tells us there are many out there 10-30 pounds over the ideal weight that are not as unhealthy as once thought so there are some valid points on the obesity chart not being one that places all into so simply. There are also valid point on muscle weighing more than fat
  10. I agree with you, no one should suffer discrimination.
  11. You to, if I seem jumpy on this issue I apologize! When I had the store I saw so many parents labeling their kids, I think we may have talked about this a few years back, those that sit on the phone all day while their kids beg for attention. I love kids so feel free to tell me to shut up if it needs to be said because my emotions run high with them.
  12. Read you dictionary on rhetoric, I speak facts that morbidly obese people don't want to hear. fact, not rhetoric.
  13. To add to that, in his tough economy it is not enough to be just as good as the others to have the job. If I am an employer I will pay more if you smoke for your health insurance, I have two folks that look the same all the way around except one is a smoker. There is also plenty of data out there that proves morbidly obese people are a work place problem some simple facts They are out over 50% more then their counter parts They are more likely to sue for work place injuries I am not saying what is right or wrong but this is a tough economy and you need every advantage over
  14. I did not read all the way through but there is a serious issue right now in this country. The bigger problem is people don't want to take responsibility, it is easy to shift blame, we all struggle with that. You always hear once you accept it you are 1/2 way to recovery. It is because prior to that point we shifted blame, denied and were holding ourselves backing from making strides. As for judging or condemning if I see a mom with an 8 year old that is morbidly obese I will and have said something if they are a friend to me. I don't sugar coat it with nice little comments like he is just a b
  15. yes and now I have to pass a zillion yummy places on my drive home! I need a pill for will power!
  16. The great part is, it is not what you did before it is what you decide to do going forward. So much research shows that many conditions can be reversed, don't feel bad about not being on the right track, feel good about being there now! I know about being on the wrong track and having to get back on, we are all human
  17. I still wish I let him see me when he was checking out the swing club. It was a relation to the girl I was with and she did not want to be seen. At a the next holiday gathering he made one of those I am the holiest comments and I whispered "Trapeze" to him. He looked at me like a deer in head lights and got very quiet for the rest of that meal. Another good part of the story- he gets to his MIL's house to get his wife back and apologize, wife asks why is his rear view mirror gone. He tells her as he was leaving that city to come get his wife back he tore it off because he did not want to
  18. Let's meet up tonight, we can go check it out together
  19. I love your first line, it is our fault. Today everyone wants to blame something else.
  20. I don't think that way but many do. I would however higher the best candidate all around, if I were self insured their health would be a factor. If I got the same rate regardless of health then I would look at who can make me the most money. I brought in the best to do work, one of them is well over 400 pounds and can barely keep his head up but he is a freakin genius. I knew when I had him come out on contract to have plenty of Dr Pepper to keep him going. He had a hard time getting hired on after being laid off until a big company that could absorb those insurance costs picked him up. T
  21. Honestly have you been to Walmart lately, I am not talking about a chubby 5 year old. I am talking about how many kids you see that are that age and hitting 90 pounds or a 3rd grader sucking down cokes that is 100 pounds! His mother was pissed when I said she was killing him and had to do something, I thought she was going to dump me. Luckily for me she went to the CDC site and started to investigate and realized she was slowly killing him. Not only has he lost weight, the diet changes have sent him from the family accepting he was ADHD to realizing it was all food related. I agree it sou
  22. If a kid is obese there is just too much data out there on what happens as a result of childhood obesity. Not just on health but also how much money they make. let's face it, if you owned a business and were self insured who would you hire? Two folks are the same on paper and both interview great, one is a hefer that was sitting there breathing heavy in the interview. My first thought is the person in better shape is going to be much less of a liability on my company. If you think that does not happen I can give you more details where I know it did. So it is illegal to do so many things t
  23. I hear the slow metabolism excuse often and 99% of the time it is an excuse. In the 1% you have to teach that child their pitfalls and how to overcome. My brother could as kids and still now can eat what they want and not gain weight, I look at food and go up 5 pounds. For me as a kid it was lots of foods others could have, even at a normal weight I had juvenile high blood pressure diagnosed at age 11. In the 70's there were no many low salt alternatives, I just did not have chips, canned soups and many other common things. It sucked but I learned to live with it and am thankful I did. At 16 t
  24. because they are scared of their own thoughts. One of my favs was a preacher that was mr holy and talked so much BS I wanted to puke. He talked about an evil woman that made him cheat on his wife and blaa blaa blaaa, his wife right there agreeing with it all and saying this woman liked to ruin homes. A few months later his wife is out of town and he is checking out Trapeze, a local swing club off Fulton ind. . Also they want to be in your bed and tell you how to have sex. Toys and oral sex are both illegal here in Ga so never think their agenda against gays is enough. Once they win that one
  25. So if I gave my kid poison that would not kill them now but just very slowly do so that would be such a heinous form of child abuse. Could you imagine, just enough rat poison so in their 20's they are more likely to have cancer so many other ailments. That would be so sickening.........
