  1. You... are required to drive to Paulding to go grocery shopping or have you forgotten the signs.
  2. Whoa.... that could be a real pain. Especially if he was your chosen primary care physician.
  3. I'm only going to challenge 1 item. How the heck do they reduce and attribute transportation costs of 35.2% to the loss of 1 day out of 5. We all now that is a 20% decrease in the days the buses run. Logic dictates a 20% decrease not 32.5%. I would have to say they must not have factored out the decrease in fuel charges (price / gal decrease) from the previous year. Also from one of my earlier posts, if they only went for an extra 30 min / day then they actually spent less time at the school. By my calculations an amount of 4.5 hours to be exact. That would be a 14% decrease in the phy
  4. Got any thoughts on how and how long it will take the community to adjust?
  5. I thought it had something to do with party affiliation. If there are more Democrats in that group the left side was longer. If there were mor Republicans, then the right was longer. But what do I know?
  6. Now that response I can agree with except I have less faith in our BOE.
  7. First the price of the service will go up due to the scarcity of and demand for the service goes through the roof. Then as TIME goes by and new facilities / providers come on line and new niche services are started, THEN prices will come back down to the new point of equalibrium. What are they gonna do with those 8,000+ kids say the first year or two. I have offered my suggestion.
  8. The poll needs to allow for multiple responses. I can only select 1 answer. I shop at Arbor Place and the Walmart /Sam's there if I am already there. I Shop at the Lowes there or in Cobb. Home Depot in Hiram. Walmart in Hiram mostly, sometimes Dallas Hwy if I am visiting my wife. Most of the Chain stores in Hiram. Almost exlusively Kroger on Ridge for groceries. So in short Paulding, Douglas then Cobb ranked in order of frequency.
  9. I am willing to pay the extra costs either way. I am only looking at the logistics of the thing. These kids have to be somewhere. That is the question, where do these kids go on that 1 day every week? I do not care who pays, that is not my question. Why does this have to be about the money, when my whole point has always been there is no infrastucture in place to support this idea, short of all dual income families having 1 adult taking every Friday off. And it would not surprise me to have the county dump that on the citizens without much notice.
  10. I have all the tools including a wet saw, tile snapper and a tile circular saw. Maybe we could work out a trade for tools or sumpin. I did the new bathroom, sewing / laundry room. That was about 250 square feet. The worst part was having to grind down the area where the cut the slab for the bathroom drains to the sump pump. Man what a mess.
  11. That would not even phase Dis jr.
  12. I gave several options. The most likely solution would be for the school board to put daycare in the schools themselves on that day and make the parents pay for it. And that includes the energy and staffing costs. Just like the ASP program. I am pointing out only that it can not be done rapidly here without the school systems assistance. But many here seem to believe that that would not be right or would not work. And they should increase the daily hours 5 days a week but have more time off during the summer. It would be the exact same outcome but the days are grouped together giving families
  13. It's Ok BP I already got it In Paulding County, 4-H Clubs are found in 5th grade classrooms, in middle schools, and at the 4-H office (where once a month high school students from around the county meet). How conveiniant, it is in the schools already. Oh, wait a sec the schools will be closed. Boys and girls club. Paulding Boys and Girls club Yep there is just the 1. I wonder if it can take 8,000+ kids for 8 hours every Friday? YMCA / YWCA 55 Hiram Dr Hiram, GA 30141 678 626-0500 Paulding YMCA Hmmm.. state funded Pre-K program in place. Something tells me they can n
  14. Ok... thaks bunches. So the honking is geese and the gurgling one is the cranes. That settles that.
  15. I personally do not care if they go to a 4 day week. I will make do and enjoy the 3 day weekends with the kids. I am fed up with the school systems and their unilateral decisions based upon what they want. If we had the program where the money follwed the students, mine would already be in private school. 52??!!!! Where's that stupid Dr's phone number?
  16. But yet you feel competant enough with it to complain as I question it after giving it substantial thought?
  17. Oh I'll get right on that. Could you give me the adresses of the Paulding 4-h club's, boys club, girls clu, YMCA and YWCA facilities and their approved capacity limits.
  18. I agree GG. I have owned a home and paid taxes on it since 1993. My first child entered school in 2004, a full 11 years after I started paying taxes. And in Paulding I will continue paying them until 65. 10 years after my youngest is out of school. Well only if I do not acquiesce to SW's request for another child. shaking in my boots now
  19. That is the point. You just posted what they said. You seem to not have even thought about it and tried to understand how it works. I'm not trying to attack the messenger though. I am attacking the practice of taking what is given without even so much as a momments consideration. My numbers are correct. And I agree with you. You quoted the times presented in the article. I am questioning them.
  20. Ok... I always thought those were geese. So what do geese sound like in flight. I ain't going for the swoosh swoosh sound neither.
  21. snicker snicker But yet nobody is even considering the fact that there is no place to put these kids even if they did want to pay for their own kids. A fact that many seem to be completely missing.
  22. Now back to what I was trying to point out earlier. The way I see it, the government has, since the 50's, insisted on a 5 day school week that parents had little choice in. In the 50's the vast majority of homes with school age children were single income where mom stayed home. 60 years worth of change. Women going to college and getting good jobs by taking advantage of this requirement. Families are largely dual income now and most would be hard pressed just to provide the basics now as costs have far outpaced incomes. So after all this change and time, the school systems just want to up and
  23. Ok math wizards... A typical school day (for elem.) is 0800 - 1430. That is a total of 6.5 hours. Take out 30 min lunch. Take out the 2 hours you are talking about extending it and that leaves 4 hours. What the heck are they doing for the OTHER 4 hours they will not be in class that day?!? Do you expect us to believe that they are only getting 2 hours of actual education per day and the rest is Fluff? And I thought I was being generous by allowing for an additional 2 hours for recess and other fluff that does not need to be made up! Heck if that is the case then they only get 10 hours of actua
  24. No way Jose!! That house is a good starter but 1 bath with a family of 4 and being Directly on Brownsville RD. Uhhh uh. I sold it in 2002 and moved to Paulding. My kids can actually go out and play in the yard and stuff here.
