  1. How about right here smarty britches... Paragraph II. Object of government. The people of this state have the inherent right of regulating their internal government. Government is instituted for the protection, security, and benefit of the people; and at all times they have the right to alter or reform the same whenever the public good may require it. Article II Section 1 Paragraph II. Right to register and vote. Every person who is a citizen of the United States and a resident of Georgia as defined by law , who is at least 18 years of age and not disenfranchised by this article, a
  2. No not quite. That would be "taking away" their constitutional right to vote. But, I support a graduated voting system based upon taxes paid to the state. 0- $1,000 = 1 vote $1,000 - $10,000 = 2 votes $10,000+ = 3 votes Seniors +1 vote Veteran +1 vote As you can see, it is very easy to move up in votes. All you really have to do is have a job. Sorry stay at home moms. I know you really do work, but I can not think of a way to account for that and not let slackers in to. You also get credit for living a long time and gaining practical experience an
  3. I think it would be better said that the conservative folks are trying to fix the problems caused by the liberal folks trying to give certain folks free stuff from the government to solve their problems. sure, why not. But when 1 tests positive what do they do?

    Arggg!

Somali pirates make silly mistake... Well it came from Yahoo but the story is not there now... So they stupidly attacked a Dutch warship. Well that is funny, but the following makes me so mad! What?!? They found all of this onboard subsequent to an attack, and they took the weapons and let them go!?! Pirating has always been a executable offense. You got found you were executed. Look closely folks, this is the same country that so many liberals really admire. They should , at the very least, have sunk or confiscated all the ships, seized all the weapons and taken ALL
  5. I do not have the numbers on the ASP program. To say it is operating at a loss I do not agree with. How many staff are there vs. children? Let's say it is a standard 20 - 1. $120 generated for each teacher for 3 hours. Factor out the pay for the supervisor and I am quite sure that it is less than $120. Apply that to the added utilities. I see it as a break even. Maybe a little more or less. Could/ should it be more? I have no trouble with that even for 3 hours. A whole day? Absolutely, it should be more.
  6. If any school system does as you stated on the off day and charges $15 /day / student to enroll them with the parents providing transportation, I believe anyone who did not take advantage of those facilities / services would be a fool.
  7. We had Ground beef patties, Sautedgreen beans, steamed Cauliflower and Brocolli and French fries at the station.
  8. Yes and some of us, while virtually unaffected by this, have taken the time to try to see both sides of the issue. I see both sides and have thrown my voice out there for the side that I feel is being unfairly vilified in this arguement. I'm more than happy to take the extra time to work with my children and teach / show them the things they will never see / learn while in the public educational program.
  9. And it is not baby sitting. They are educating the children at the long ago establised times. The families have taken advantage of this time. Then the school system added ASP for the sole purpose of added daily daycare and charging the parents for each day their child attended. What a great use of facilities. The system is a culprit in this but is more than willing to just dump it back onto the parents without much of a care.
  10. I thought they already nixed that request.
  11. No it is not the schools job to baby sit. But, the Government in their infinate wisdom decided, some 60 years ago that all children were required to attend school and public school was M - F. They set in motion a given standard that has been around for 3 generations. It has allowed for the advent of dual income families that has taken decades to establish. And now they are talking about doing away with it in the span of less than a year. I think it is unfair, to say the least, to accuse all the dual income parents who do not like this idea, of just using the schools as a baby sitter. They will
  12. I did not say there was one ongoing at the momment. These were all examples. And the middle ground was / is as I stated. The county finding a way to reduce their expenses due to a reduced tax income. Then the tax payers may have to accept a higher mill rate. Remember that due to a reduction in most home's value, the county is no longer collecting the same tax revenue as they had been. So even an increased mill rate could concievably still be less than you were actually paying before. Thus the county is operating with less tax income and the tax payer is still paying less than they had been eve

    WTH?!?

It Seems the Troll Has come back yet again.
  14. Good idea, one problem. Busses are most efficient when full. Routes will have to be maintained no matter what the charge just in case everyone needed a ride today. Think about MARTA. If they start charging, folks will start taking their own kids to school. Then more will be needed to cover the costs. Then more will drop off. And on and on. But hey, in the end I guess no one would pay / ride and we wouldn't need the busses except for a few select areas.
  15. Utilities Protection Center (UPC) at 811 ( or 1-800-282-7411). to request underground locate service. Calling 811 before every digging job gets your underground utility lines marked for free and helps prevent undesired consequences. For more information visit www.gaupc.com or www.call811.com. That might help. I do not know if they would do a locate on lines after the meter though.
  16. Many years ago while attending school at Hollydale elem in Cobb We had a very long bus route. Hollydale is in Hollydale Subd. off Powder Springs and Bankstone. Anyway the route started at Villa Rica Rd. and W. Sandtown. went to Macland Rd. then to Powder springs & Macland. Into Lamplighter village MHP. Then back to Hollydale still picking up students on Powder springs. just to fill the bus. What you are asking for is the middle ground I spoke of.
  17. Understood, but I am not saying to just raise taxes. My point may be better illustrated with numbers. You have a $200,000 home valuation. lets use some easy numbers. School taxes are at 10 mills. So the taxes would be 200,000 X .01 = $2,000 for that year. The next year your home value dropped 20% or $40,000. Now (unless they change something) you will pay 160,000 X .01 = $1,600. The school systems "income" just went down $400. And so did your taxes. They have 3 choices. Raise your mill rate, Cut spending to the new income or something in between. If they raise the mill rate 2.5 points then the
  18. Never stated that anywhere. Look again at that post and my next. My only issue with the school system is that there truly seems to be some really bad spending decisions going on there. But that is a whole different topic. And once again for all, I still do not understand why so many get bent out of shape about their millage rates going up to cover your taxes going down due to a decrease in value. Your net pay out is the same. And before you jump all over me, that does not mean other things have not caused your taxes to go up like the state dropping the program or new bonds being put into
  19. Just a side note here. You are correct aboout the yearly cost. And if you own a home you will pay school taxes on it for about 47 years. Not just the 13 years that your child attends school. So you take the ($9,666 X 13)/ 47 = $2,673 in average today's $$ cost. Still a deal if you ask me. But we still have not included all the commercial property taxes that go into the school system into that averaging either. And if the system is not growing very fast, then there is much less needed for new schools and such, reducing the yearly cost even further.
  20. You sir are living in a very inexpensive home or need to look at your tax statement again. My home is valued at about $155,000 for tax purposes and my school taxes are well above $1,000 per year. I am not complaining but BS is correct in his statement. I just got mine out. I paid School M & O $1,108.07 School bond $ 179.56 Total $1,287.63 Plus 1% of all my purchases within the county go to the school system. Again I am not complaining here, just pointing out the fallacy of your statement. just imagine how much more someone living in a $250,000 home would pay.
  21. Your points are well taken LPPT. We are only trying to impress upon you that if their sign is not out and the flashing lights are not on, then there is no need to stop since THEY would be in violation of of their rules by embarking / disembarking passengers without the proper safety equipment in use.
  22. I am guilty of being an absent minded distraction. I usually have a Bluetooth headset on when I am out. I took the kids to the Tellus science museum a few weeks ago. My phone is always on vibrate because of my job and I can hear it ring in the headset. ( I do not wear the headset while I am on duty) Anyway, We go into the planetarium for the show and you have to adjust your eyes to the dark. I was not concerned about my phone because it was on vibrate. I forgot that the headset has a blue light that flashes. OOPS. The lady next to me said something to me about it. To which I very quickly remov
