My granddaughter came home today and quite frankly, her teacher and the administration at Abney dropped the ball on this one. A classmate of hers asked the teacher if she had heard about the shooting and the teacher told her that, 'we are not talking about that today'. SERIOUSLY!? Same thing in 5th graders class. Not cool in my opinion.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way, I didn't bring it up because I didn't want to appear callous, but what you said is true. I heard all the same things and thought, 'HHHMMMMM'. Don't get me wrong, I'm don't want to blame a victim here, but it still makes me wonder. But in all honesty, can we really believe what the media is telling us? Especially since so many of the facts have been wrong to date.

You are correct, an access card wouldn't have and won't prevent something like this from happening.

I have a 5th grader too and the teachers at his school were told to keep things as usual and don't talk about it unless a student asks specifically. I have no good answer, I can see benefits to both approaches, but I'm no expert for sure.

Should they wait until a student asks about it or should it be addressed upfront in an attempt to reassure students that they are safe?

Why is it so hard for people to understand that? Criminals WILL HAVE GUNS, they are CRIMINALS. They sure as heck don't obtain the weapons they use to kill people legally. I bought 2 guns last week and it was like trying to get out of Fort Knox with a bar of gold. Those guns and the majority of the guns purchased legally by non crazies, will never kill or shoot at anyone. It's not rocket science people, it's common sense.

THATS WHAT I THINK TOO!! It's not like they need to figure out who did, so why all of the investigation? I guess they have good reason, it just seems cruel.
