Any kind of resources for diabetics would be appreciated right now. My husband is diabetic and his vials were also over $300. His doctor told him walmart sells their own insulin it's called Novolin R (rapid) & Novolin N (long for night). They sell for $27.99. It is truly a lifesaver!! Call your doctor and see if you can take it. You don't even need a prescription for them!!!! Please let me know if this helps.

tess
Lantus & Humalog long acting & short acting insulins are $300 ....they are more stable than the old NPH & R insulin as they keep your blood sugars more level ...the old $30 ones have delayed reactions & keep a residual amount that sometimes act at bad times....I tried for years to keep my blood sugars level with those sometimes the R would react quickly & sometimes it would take 1 or more Hrs before it worked to bring down the highs or counteract the food you just ate ...the NPH can sometimes not work for up to 12 hrs....leaving you with a high or low.....the Humalog is usually working within the first few minutes you take it and the Lantus seems to not have a up & down effect... that being said ...some doctors that deal with type one diabetics have insulin at their office that the drug companies give them to start new patients and maybe he might call and ask if they can help him

The insulin walmart makes is the same as both of those. His doctor told him about the walmart insulin because at $300 a vial we couldn't afford it and he was calling in asking for samples all the time. Sometimes they didnt have samples to give out. He tried the walmart insulin and it DID work just the same as the name brands. Walmart is the only one who carries Novolin R & N ......... I pray this person finds the help they need. Medicine should not cost this much for anyone!!!!

Medicine should not cost this much for anyone!!!! according to diabetic web site...The peak time of an insulin is the time during which the blood sugar is most affected. The peak time for Novolin N is four to 12 hours after administration. Lantus does not have a peak time because it is released at a constant rate Read more: http://www.ehow.com/facts_5909948_lantus-insulin-vs_-novolin-n.html#ixzz2n7VAsj9R also it says Novolin is NOT HUMALOG....and does not have the same reaction time...they are not the same....I have been on Humalog for many years as I have a pump and was told by a true DIABETIC doctor that I should never use anything but HUMALOG or NOVALOG in my pump that they are totally different..than any other insulins

EVERY patient is different and that's why I told the OP to call their doctor to see if they could take what my husband does because it did help us and it could possibly help them as well. She refused and is still taking the expensive stuff. Go figure.

EVERY patient is different and that's why I told the OP to call their doctor to see if they could take what my husband does because it did help us and it could possibly help them as well. I went to a TRUE DIABETIC one that has been in practice for 30 years and he almost killed me...went through several doctors & the Endocrinologist told me I was a type 2 ...needed to diet & exercise...that would cure me never checked to see if I might be a type 1 because I was almost 40... my doctor only sees is diabetics.....mostly only type 1 .....and he is the one that told me that not all insulins are equal...we tried all of them if they are on Lantus or Humalog it is dangerous to swap without their doctor ...some diabetics might be able to switch ...each is different.... I can only use Humalog in my insulin pump....and I have several friends that have tried the NPH & R and can not use them because of the inconsistent range of the hours they act...Lantus & Humalog are the only thing that works for them too...the R & NPH are the old insulin that has been on the market for many many years that is why it is much cheaper & if you can use it I hope it works for you but me I have been fighting with this disease for over 20 years and have tried lots of different way to cope with it.... My husband is type 1 as well but the OP wasn't talking about him or you. The OP asked for help on getting insulin. I simply told them to CALL THEIR DOCTOR and ask if what my husband takes is something they could possibly take. I never claimed to know every detail in the matter. I just shared our experience with cheaper insulin.
