Is that (for the cheap room) $114 for the whole four day cruise? or is that a per-night fee

pubby

That is for the whole 4 nights, now taxes are $115.20 per person.

The total for 2 people for an outside is $453.90. Remember that's your food, entertainment (except casino) and 24 hour room service!!!! That's my favorite part.

Couple of questions....

Are the cruises only going out on Mondays?

What is the cost of a 3rd/4th person (both children) for these cruises.

I am looking at an outside cabin...

Thanks

The total price on this would be $973.60. This is all taxes and port fees.

Don't they require you to have your passport now to go on cruises?

You only need a passport on a cruise if:

You leave from one American port and come back in another American port.

You leave from a port that is not American.

You get sick in another country and need to fly home from that country.

Excellent price. My wife and I are going on RCI next February for 10 days to the Panama Canal and our price is nowhere near as good as this.

I prefer RCI but others prefer Carnival. Go to

http://www.cruisecritic.com

and read some of the forum threads (boards). Eye opening and very informative, albeit very opinionated. Amy and I love cruising. We try to go once a year.

Okay, I am also confused....

if there are 4 of us and we want an outside view, which you said was $119, that would be $476. But then you said our price would be $973.60...where is the difference? That is a lot for taxes and port fees....not quite a bargain after all since 1/2 of it would be fees/taxes.

Could you clarify?

Also, I asked about if these were only Monday through Friday cruises...is that the case?

Thanks

I do know that RC adds a "fuel surcharge" on top of your base price... We didn't realize it wasn't included when we went on our last cruise and it was a "lovely" surprise. I think it was something like $10 a day per person (so a 7-day cruise would be an extra $140 just in "fuel fees")... it really does add up fast, especially if you aren't expecting it.

I can understand why they had that fee when we went on our cruise last year (when regular unleaded was almost $4 a gallon!!), but with the gas prices back in the "normal" range, why do they still have all of these fuel fees? You would think they would just build the fuel fee into the cruise price instead of tacking on an extra fee...

I do have a question for the original poster... Can you tell me where you see $114 for an interior room? Everything I see on the RC website states much more than that. The 9/25/09 sailing on Monarch is $229 a person, PLUS taxes, and PLUS the $40 fuel surcharge (per person). So how much would it be for an interior room for two adults INCLUDING all of the taxes and fees.

It seems like a lot of times companies advertise an amazing deal, but once you add all of the crazy fees it is just about what you would pay on any "non-sale" day. Especially business in the travel industry (ie, airlines, hotels, cruise lines, rental cars, ect).

I see 'interior' at $114. and ocean view at $199. Explain if the ocean view is outside or was which one was $119. I have never been but really want to go. I am confused.

Inside cabins are the cheapest; they are opposite the outside of the ship; no window. Outside cabins are on the outside of the ship with a window and are called "oceanview". The window is usually a large porthole. Balconies are outside cabins with a balcony (typically small but there are large ones). Then you get to various sizes of suites which can get pricy.

So, in terms of increasing price: Inside, oceanview, balcony, suite. Your price varies based on the "class" of your cabin. An inside on the lowest deck will cost the least and prices generally get higher as you get higher in the ship. Balconies and suites are usually available on the higher decks.

You can go to RCI's website for more information too.

I hope I answered some questions.

Our February 2010 booking on RCI has zero fuel surcharge. I assume the OP's rates are cheaper because she is discounting her commission.

Good to know!! I just went back and re-read the fine print on the RC website... I must have miss-read the "reserves the right to impose" line. ;) Back when we had our cruise last year all of the fuel charges were mandatory, now they changed it just to cover themselves the fuel prices increase.

Here is the actual fine print from the website:

"Royal Caribbean International reserves the right to impose a fuel supplement on all guests if the price of West Texas Intermediate fuel exceeds $65.00 per barrel. The fuel supplement for 1st and 2nd guests would be no more than $10 per guest per day, to a maximum of $140 per cruise; and for additional guests would be no more than $5 per person per day, to a maximum of $70 per cruise."

All the cruise lines have similar verbiage about fuel surcharges. I recall not paying it on our cruise last March on NCL either. Just lucky, I guess.

Are you 100% certain? My travel agent (we are taking a cruise in Dec.) told me we had to get a passport, at least a passport card, and of course, I have pushed it off and I now I am in a panic.

My experience is that the cruise lines won't let you board without a passport and that passport not be within 6 months of expiration. I always carry mine. I renewed it last May and it only took about 3-4 weeks to get my new passport.

From the RCI site, which may clarify this:

Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI)

The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) when fully implemented on June 1, 2009 will require all travelers to and from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda to present a valid passport or other approved document that establishes the bearer's identity and citizenship in order to enter or reenter the United States.

Passport Requirements

A valid passport is a requirement for air travel to / from Canada, Mexico the Caribbean and Bermuda.

Effective June 1, 2009 only a valid passport (unless otherwise noted below) or other WHTI compliant document will be accepted for entry or re-entry into the United States. For a list of all approved documents visit: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc...pliant_document

U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises (cruises that begin and end at the same port in the U.S.) will be able to enter or depart the country with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate and laminated government issued picture ID, denoting photo, name and date of birth. A U.S. citizen under the age of 16 will be able to present either an original or a copy of his or her birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad issues by DOS, or Certificate of Naturalization issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

I'd recommend getting a passport. With it, you can go anywhere without having to worry.

We have cruised both Carnival and RCI. In fact, we took this exact cruise back in Feb as the first leg of our honeymoon. The staff on this ship seemed more willing to go out of their way to make your trip great. The cabin we had (ocean view) was smaller than the ocean views on the carnival ships.

When we booked our cruise last Dec, we had to pay the fuel surcharge. However, we were given a credit on our sign and sail because of the decrease in price per barrel as mentioned above.

To those of you new to cruising, you have to look at the final price and then decide if it is worth it. Even though the taxes are high, based upon the two person quote above, You're only paying $113 per night for your room, your food and your entertainment - FOR 2! You can eat as much as you want and you can go to as many shows as you can cram into a night. Honestly most nice hotels charge at least $99 a night and you have to pay for food and entertainment on top of it.

In my opinion, cruising is the way to go!

Sorry for not responding sooner, I have been working and on the phone with RCI with all you questions, I'm going to try to get them all answered. If I miss you I'm sorry, you can pm me and I'll answer it.

To everyone that has been answering these questions. THANK YOU!

Interior is $114

Oceanview which is an outside cabin is $119

They are Monday through Friday Cruises.

With regards to the price difference, RCI quoted for the Oct 19th sailing.

With these prices, there are no quad or triple cabins available. They are only double occupancy. This means that only 2 people can be in a cabin.

I have been told these prices are exclusively for Cruise Planners Agents. I have not been able to find them on the RCI site either.

I am not discounting my commission.

You do NOT need a passport because you are leaving Port Canaveral and returning to Port Canaveral which is a closed looped travel. Like I said before if you get sick in one of the other countries and cannot reboard the ship, you are stuck in that country without a passport. You need a passport to leave that country. (i'm sure the US EMbassy will be able to help, but that can be a hassle.) A pass card is no good in this situation. A passcard is for entry into Canada and Mexico by car.

These are awesome prices, there is no where you can go for 5 days - eat, be entertained with Las Vegas style shows, be pampered and all the other wonderful things that cruising offers for these prices.

I hope this clears things ups for everyone. :D

thank you for the information. I didn't know about the passport thing, the lady that booked our cruise in May told us after June 09 that we could not cruise with out a passport to anywhere. i guess she was mistaken. :)

Call me 4 your cruise will be posting these great deals from now on.

I suggest if you are interested in taking advantage of the deals she offers you go ahead and get a passport.

You may find that a group you may want to cruise with will take her up on the offer.

I love the idea of carpooling down there and sharing that expense also.
