Yep! I'm also in PS, and they are going off all around us, completely freaking my dogs out.

I personally hurt for the plight of the tomatoes. They are grown in unforgiving soil only to be picked and inhumanely packed into overcrowded crates where their mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, and cousins may actually DIE right next to them only to be left to ROT right next to their living kin. And then when they reach their destination, does it get any better? No my friends, no, it does not. The rotting flesh of their kin is discarded in trash heaps, and the ones who make the journey whole end up being sliced and diced and boiled whole so that their skin may be mo

Thanks for the info. I didn't express an opinion about the event or those who support it, nor did I ask a question about the event or the people who support it. I simply expressed that I found it amusing that they referred to it as "grassroots." It was a joke. A play on words, if you will. I'm sure there are plenty of folks who take the event quite seriously.

I love how the announcement refers to a "grassroots diet"!

Gulf Oil Spill Investigated as Cause of Dolphin Deaths

Clearly, we should end all oil exploration or production in any waters within the US or any waters that border the US. All oil should be extracted from waters that OUR fish don't have to swim in. OH WAIT--- Maybe the OP would like us all to stop using oil? We'll get right on that. -

I've had a sirloin roast in the crock pot all day with onions and garlic. Yukon Gold potatoes are currently boiling with garlic cloves for garlic mashed potatoes, and a pot of speckled butter beans with smoked pork is bubbling away on the stove and almost ready to eat. I'm making gravy with the crock pot liquid from the roast while the meat rests and the veggies finish cooking. I've made cornbread in a cast iron skillet to go with our meal. -

You are correct. And I misspoke. I have no power except as a voter. Still, I hold tight to my position. What a prospective employer NEEDS to know about any PROSPECTIVE employee is DIRECTLY related to the job they plan to assign that employee to do. Would you not want to have a BG check on someone you hired to house sit your home when you went on vacation? Would you be unreasonable to do a thorough check before you gave that person your keys and complete access to your life? -

I didn't go back and read exactly what I said up there, but what I think I said is that whether or not what you do personally impacts your job is necessarily related to the job you do. In fact, I think that's what I've said throughout this thread. And unless I'm mistaken, I think I've also said that, while I DISAGREE with being required to give an employer access to your private info, I also think sometimes it is situational. -

No one is asking then to give up privacy. Privacy, by definition, is private. Right? But people on the public payroll do and OUGHT TO have accountability. If you work for animal control but have a pit bull fighting ring at your house for weekend "recreation," *I* have a right to declare you unfit to serve. If you are an officer who takes down pimps, I have every right to complain if I learn you run a brothel on the weekends. Do I have a "right" to your social media that details your weekend activity after I've already put you in that position? Probably not. I could fir -

I would not work for anyone who demanded any access to any part of my life that doesn't relate directly to the work I do. My work life and my personal life happen in different hours and have little to nothing to do with each other. My private life is no business of my employer, and it never should be. And I would defend my right to that privacy to the point of being unemployed if they EVER asked for details or passwords to my private life. But I am not a public employee. I am on a private payroll. And even if I showed up to work SMASHED or otherwise unable to do my job, I am only h -

Fair enough. And I agree. But couldn't these people as easily have chosen to keep their posts private? They could have. It would have taken them about 1 minute to make that happen. And I think they SHOULD have. Because it was disgusting. But...if they are in LE, does it make it OK that they engage in these behaviors as long as they don't broadcast their perversions? And isn't this at the heart of the original question, and how I responded? You will not learn ANYTHING about me from my FB page UNLESS I have "friended" you. And if I were given a choice of giving my employe -

For the record, I don't believe an employer should have ANY ACCESS to ANYTHING you do outside of your job, except as that might have an impact on your work. If I am applying as a dog kennel keeper, it really isn't relevant if I smoke pot after-hours. But if I have a criminal history of animal abuse? ABSOLUTELY RELEVANT. If I am applying for a job as a gardener, it really shouldn't matter if I enjoy the "grass" I cut. BUT...if I am applying for work s a public school teacher, it MATTERS if I have a conviction for child molestation. If I desire to be a MARTA train driver, it MATT -

No, it's not a different topic at all, and you can't make it one by pronouncing it as such.
