I can't think of ANY situation that would have me wearing a t-shirt with a person's picture on it! Besides that, when I think of what a hero is like -- It's not a politician, typically.

In today's world, if you're still doing the Senator Claghorn bit, the world has passed you by! There are no more "yankees"! There's just folks. Go back and listen to the verbiage spewed from the KKK in the 50s/60s. THOSE are the roots of "southern pride". The ideology was an amalgam of male domination of women, manifest destiny regarding racial and regional superiority, anti-intellectualism/conservative christianity, and xenophobia. Out of this putrid goo SOME people evolved and developed a spine sufficient to walk upright. Others wish to wallow in the wastewater of yesteryear, therefore

You've pretty much nailed the issue. The deal is about people JUDGING other people they don't know, based on incomplete information about them and having unrealistic expectations of them. I don't care one way or the other if OTHER people pull off the side of the road on both sides and put their hat over their hearts or salute the family of the deceased - whoever he was. But the people who judge others with their unrealistic expectations of them will always be disappointed due to the fact that it's illogical to have these expectations of people they've never met! Paulding is an area that h

Yes, at the other end of the intellectual continuum is "to (sic) sharp" you!

This thread is about conforming to OTHER PEOPLE'S arbitrary expectations of you regarding respect for the dead. I think that there's another thread about just pulling over for a funeral procession. So try this on. You're going in the OPPOSITE direction of the funeral procession. Do you pull over to the side, though you're not required to? Moreover, do you do like many on here and complain about people who DON'T pull over, even though those people who don't pull over have no idea what your expectations of them are? See if you can get out of the loop that you're in about GA law. This is a th

That's part of my point. If you're in the "I don't care who the guy was or what he did" camp, then it doesn't matter if it was an ax murderer in the box who had chopped up a beloved Paulding Co. family. On the other hand, if it DOES matter what the person's character was like - or who he was - then you don't pay respects for just anyone, in a generic fashion. Or -- if you DO pay respects, you do it in a way other than pulling off to the side of the road and cursing those who don't abide by your arbitrary expectations of them.

Yeah - It's a "liberal elitist trick" to get you to consider your principles. What's this about zombies being (your words) a "possible scenario"? You're not very good at providing intelligent discourse. Or maybe you're just having a bad day? Try this one -- It's really easy! How are other drivers you don't know supposed to be aware of your expectations of them? Watch out now! It might be an "elitist liberal trick question"! Here's my common sense answer: People you don't know can't possible be aware of what you expect, not that they would conform to your arbitrary set of rules f

I'll take my chances.

I'm sure that the Family of Tamerlan Tsarnaev would appreciate your "show of respect" for them. I wouldn't pull over for anybody, certainly not for that family. That means that I regard respect as earned. I think that it's admirable that you're able to view all people equally.

Anyone going to watch the Benghazi Hearings today?

From the Urban Dictionary: Rampid: A non-existant word that mentally challenged people often confuse with the word "rampant." See below.Jack: The disease ran rampid throughout the country. Jill: Rampid is not a word, you moron. Jack: Pirated music is rampid in the Internet. Jill: Are you really that stupid? -
Is the American Military a reflection of a flawed society
eym_sirius replied to CitizenCain's topic in RECENT TOPICS
A wink and a nod. That's what the military leaders will give you in response to being forced to order soldiers to be law-abiding when it comes to women. The President needs to make an example out of military leaders whose men are not in compliance with the law. -
That's what you got from reading the original post? The question isn't about obeying the law. It's about respect for the dead.

The GOP is in a death spiral due to in-fighting for power. They make no pretense anymore of trying to do the right thing. They just announce that their seditious intentions and then snipe from afar. It's a cowardly political tactic that just speeds up the day of total irrelevance. -

There's simply no story here. Nobody's scared and more and more people are weary of the partisan sniping. -
Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the deceased Boston Bomber, has a funeral procession coming through Paulding County (hypothetically). Do you pull over and pay your respects? Or say - "I don't think so - Not this time!" How about a serial killer/rapist who was just administered lethal injection, same scenario? If you tend to say "No props for the evil", then is it fair to say that respect is earned, conditional, and NOT automatic? On the other hand - If you think respect IS unconditional and universal - Would you be okay with Tamerlan Tsaraev's body (or the body of the serial killer/rapist put

How you go out will be a reflection of you, not the company.

I like it all! I could so be a host to one of those eat-anything-that-lives shows!

Would you mind pointing out the "sign of moral conscience, compassion, manners and graciousness" as stated by the OP, who presumes to speak for the county? ["We are courteous to each other here in Paulding County and we stop for ALL funeral processions. You are not welcome in this county with behavior like that!"]

Again - It's illogical to think that people you don't know will conform to your arbitrary expectations of them. Complain, whine, gripe and otherwise indicate your level of dissatisfaction with the behavior of strangers, if you want to. They will remain unaware of your expectations of them and rightfully so. The world is changing and the failure of backward-thinking people to move forward into a new paradigm of progress falls into the broad category of their personal problem.
-
Who do you think that you are, telling people that they are not welcome in Paulding County, based on YOUR driving preference for them?
-
I'm sure that people you don't know would be happy to comply with your arbitrary expectations of them! If only you could somehow list all of your expectations for every situation for them - that would solve the problem! Why don't you possibly consider a different paradigm? How dare this one person inconvenience hundreds or thousands of individuals with a "procession"? If the deceased had been a considerate person when alive, he wouldn't be littering the countryside with a perpetual memorial to himself, and setting neighbor against neighbor with regard to the formalized procession to his "rest

Sorry to see George go; We were fortunate to have had him around for all these years. Somewhere around here I have an original demo tape of George which was never released to the market because of a change in labels. It's in a box somewhere with other stuff from 25 years ago. There'll never be another who could so artfully capture the essence of the human condition as "The King of Broken Hearts"!

What was that about "global warming", again?
eym_sirius replied to glassdogs's topic in RECENT TOPICS
In a related story, individuals still believe that the earth is flat because they can only see as far as the horizon. All that scientists can do is to present the evidence. There will ALWAYS be those who believe that the earth is flat and that there's a supernatural realm that trumps all scientific evidence. There's just no reasoning with the unreasonable! Something else that is in play here is the need on the part of regressives to downplay American initiatives and even attempt to undermine success in order to score political points. It's a negative existence, to be sure, to always be in -
former member, I think that what we're seeing here is a case of Smalltownitis. Their whole world is their immediate surroundings. That narrow mindset has them saying things like, "The OVERALL economy isn't improving because [these people I know personally] aren't experiencing an upturn." Well, heck, let's judge economic trends on the few people personally known! I know people whose business is BOOMING right now!! Taking off! Record-setting!! It would be equally foolish to make a broad determination based on those accounts. There are leading indicators based on futures prices and con
