  1. The only reason that people believe ghosts exist is because that idea was introduced to them. In reality, there's no such thing as supernatural. There's only the imagination. We all believe in science, right? We KNOW that scientific principles are true. It's either-or. You can't believe in natural laws and also in a belief that contradicts them. Natural laws keep our feet on the ground and govern all aspects of our lives. How can anyone say that natural laws aren't real? People want to believe in the supernatural because it would mean a possible escape scenario from the reality of the
  2. How can a person accurately assess that which he has not observed? This example defines "prejudice".
  3. Just FYI - Most photographers guard against copyright infringement by prosecuting those who reproduce their work - Or at least threatening to prosecute..... In any event, what you're suggesting is against the law.
  4. Some people spend tens of thousands on a wedding - Why? It's just money. That's what it's there for, is to spend it doing things that you like to do. It's all in what a person finds valuable. IMO, it's foolish to spend money on a date, thinking that your spending will impress her. It's not foolish to spend money [within one's means] on a date to have a fun, memorable evening, even if it's a first date. Now, about momma getting involved with her son's date choices - I'm glad that my momma stayed on the sidelines!
  5. Years back, there were some studies out which warned of the detrimental effects of Aspartame, one of the highly publicized studies concluding that there was a link to cancer. It turned out that this particular collection of studies was funded by The Sugar Board. I'm skeptical about any reports about Aspartame, for that reason as well as my own lack of issues with the consumption of it. I drink diet soft drinks, and I have since my teens. No sugar-drinks and very little sugar/sweets for me! Give me Aspartame any day, instead of sugar! Is Aspartame healthful? I'm almost neve
  6. I usually won't eat organ meats, due to high (bad) cholesterol levels. I like seafood and I like to fish in the Gulf of Mexico, so recently I've started trying fish species that others discard because they're "supposed" to be nasty, bloody, bony, or otherwise undesirable. So far, I've only found one fish to be yucky-tasting - a hardhead catfish. It left a distinct aftertaste that I'm not in a hurry to try again. Regarding fresh water fish that were unpleasant, I tried carp, which tasted like, I imagine, motor oil would taste. The best was remora which had the most delicate flavo
  7. Definitely rent a condo, since there's usually not a big difference in price. [on a humorous note, I first typed, "rent a condom", which would NOT be a good idea!]
  8. Here's what I'm not understanding - A person with whom the country entrusts classified information BETRAYS that trust and STEALS the information to give/sell it to WIKILEAKS and some people call this person a hero? Isn't he a criminal for STEALING the information and a SPY for giving/selling (doesn't matter which) that information to entities outside this country? For those who think that it's okay as long as there is DIRT to be shared, Isn't this JUST LIKE unauthorized search and seizure of your home and calling it "appropriate" if they find something???
  9. You might want to call her - It would be a more efficient way of telling her what you need. [flash=728,304]http://www.paulding.com/directory/images/dir/pat.swf

    OMG !

Aren't they supposed to be hot?
  11. So sorry to hear of his passing! Here's my favorite version of "Call Me The Breeze" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51Sy59kw2Bg

  13. And now you're feeling guilty. It's understandable. Now throw away those old Prince and Queen CDs, boycott Burger King, toss the Duke's Mayo, pour the Crown Royal down the drain and if your name is Earl -- You'll need to get that changed!
  14. Our forefathers rejected the notion of a monarchy. Why celebrate that choice on July 4 and in the same month -- celebrate and glorify the institution they rejected? It's only in the framework of the monarchy that there is a media story for Americans to fixate on. We're not British subjects by pure chance. We're also not kneeling on a prayer cloth and facing Mecca five times a day, by pure chance. It's only a matter of luck as to where we are born and what our circumstances are. What we do with that opportunity is what SHOULD matter, but that's just me. It's why I don't BLAME the royals
  15. Covering first, Hudson's foot was on the middle of the bag and his achilles tendon was stepped on, turning his ankle sideways. It's going to be a season-ending injury, it appears. Probably a broken ankle/leg with some major ligament damage and/or possibly a ruptured achilles tendon. It was sickening to view.
  16. No, the individuals in question spew bigoted pronouncements, racial stereotypes, and prejudicial views on race that are strongly suggestive of other-race inferiority and THAT'S what makes many of the right-wing nutjobs here racists. There's a pretty extensive written record of such comments, so to attempt to frame this as having to do with "not voting for Obama" is disingenuous, at best! Conservative? Undermining the Presidency, therefore undermining the integrity of the government, is radical, not in any way conservative!
  17. Again - I'm not suggesting that the British don't have a RIGHT to their form of government. What I'm saying is that since OUR founding fathers structured OUR government without a monarchy (one reason being that it is fundamentally at-odds with an "all created equal" ideology) why do WE glorify that which we say our belief system detests - the unequal treatment of people according to birth. Can a young person aspire to be a CEO, a senator, a celebrity, a sports star or any of a number of individuals who attain elevated social status here? Sure they can! Can those same young people a
  18. I appreciate the intelligent replies and there were a few of them. Most took it personally that I asked the question, and taking it personally assisted me in making my point. People mindlessly allow themselves to be consumed by a media show of tradition with no consideration of whether this is something that is compatible with their personal ideology/philosophy. So they go berserk when that lack of thought gets pointed out. Of course they can daydream. But if they're daydreamers and they KNOW that this will be a thread that bursts their royal bubble - why click on it and respond?
  19. The point of having someone on "Ignore" is to not read his/her comments and to discontinue a dialogue with that person. If I'm not replying to you anymore, it's likely because I've opted for the "ignore" feature. For instance: ["You have chosen to ignore all posts from: gonefromhere."]
  20. I think that whether one finds the comments distasteful or not (with little or no information about the context) depends largely on the degree to which one is willing to have his/her puppet strings pulled by the media which utilize virus-like memes to attempt to control public opinion/sentiment. In this instance, you've been meme-infected if: The media wants you to be infatuated with the royal couple - you just do it because the media indicates that it's the thing to do. The media wants you to take sides against Anne -- you do it because the media has thus decreed. After all, you sup
  21. The above description of a "casual observer" would only apply to a bigoted, racially prejudiced casual observer! How could you possibly make those assumptions about me or my female friends, otherwise? For the record, I share personal information about myself on a need-to-know basis. You don't qualify!
  22. I'm skeptical of this most recent story. It seems to have been contrived to replace the narrative of Zimmerman being an overzealous wanna-be cop who killed an unarmed teenage boy.
  23. I say let's learn to live here on Earth, first. Let's feed the hungry, treat the sick, and stop killing people to resolve conflict. Why should we taint another world in another galaxy or dimension? Perhaps that occupation will be better performed by a more deserving life form than man-not-so-wise-not-so-wise!
