If you're my neighbor, put some clothes on your girls!

You're the one who called these sisters, "pieces of meat". Again - objectification. The rules DON'T change when a girl develops. Consult the law on that point. How can a person who objectifies females while rationalizing her sons' boorish behavior be considered having "high values and morals"??? In what alternate universe are people with poor manners held in high esteem? Remember -- we're talking about 12 - 16 year old girls -- underage. And there's never been a darn thing wrong with the MOM getting to know the other mom in the spirit of neighborliness. Why didn't the mom do that wh -

Let's start here, with the OP'S words about the underage girls: ["They go out to play basketball in the cul de sac and can't help but to stare at all the goods present!!! "] Not at the girls wearing skimpy clothes, even -- But at "The Goods Present" - Young girls from 12 - 16. The mom (the op is a woman according to other posts) reinforces the objectification when she refers to the "GOODS" (that's the object, in case you're a little slow on the uptake). TWELVE! Instead of taking this teaching moment for the edification of her sons in the area of RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR, she also reinforc -

Now might be a good time to dispel a myth or two. Here's the myth: What a teenage girl wears is a specific message or a specific invitation. The male ego is programmed to think, "she wants ME - why else would she dress like that?" Reality check -- Get over yourself - It's not about you. Show respect for females by not making assumptions about them. There are many reasons that a woman or a girl may choose to wear clothing that others find sexy. They may just be very secure - just as those who cover up all of the time may be insecure. Here's another myth: -

Yes! You're right - What a person CAN'T do is to control other people's kids or to expect their neighbors to conform to their individual belief system. What a person CAN do is to communicate --- All Along -- respect for themselves and others as a recurring theme. Respect means not objectifying women. Now this isn't some radical idea; it's necessary for a person with proper social skills, at a higher level and on a basic level -- conforming to the law. All functioning people have eyes that look outward. Civilized people also have eyes that look inward. They are the eyes of ci -

In the context of this discussion that dealt with the OP's individual situation, your comment makes absolutely no sense. So you maintained consistency (trying to say something positive). -

You beat me to it, NC. To consider a well-considered conversation where a person articulates his or her position shouldn't be considered "stooping", it should be considered "communicating". What would jesus say? "She has her reward". -

As well, after casting a fanciful eye at HER, a guy may discover that he had been gawking at HIM. Not that there's anything wrong with that..... -

I disagree with those who say that an adult who looks "in that way" (If you need to know what "in that way" is, see the Caddyshack clip above) isn't sick, isn't pervy. Let's ask the 12 year old girl. I think that her opinion matters here! -

Given your take on the situation LPPT - what's your solution - Only to give the advice, "gawk, but don't touch"? -

This is interesting! You equate morality with "modesty". In what way, specifically, does modesty equal morality? Do you have a good working definition of morality that applies to this use of the term? Isn't it easier for Olive Oyl, in your world, to be more moral than "Betty Boop"? I don't see the connection between what a person wears and how moral he or she is, but maybe you can clarify that? -

Wouldn't it be great if the world were aware of your arbitrarily conceived expectations of them? They should do this and they shouldn't do that. IF ONLY they knew -- certainly there would be absolute compliance!! Unfortunately, your expectations of the attire of modern day adolescents will go unrealized and you will constantly be disappointed in how other people behave --- at a standard that you consider "below". There is an opportunity for you to join the real world and to develop real world solutions that don't involve anyone else conforming to your expectations of them. -

Gross is a mild description of anyone who sees a child through a fanciful eye. Hell yes on taking action first against the drug dealers and kudos to children who play in their own yard. If they are having fun and getting exercise instead of being couch potatoes, they are to be commended. -

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and to express it. This is specific circumstance and doens't involve you or your children. That being said, your "thing" about modesty is irrelevant in the context of what the OP sees as a dilemma. The OP wants to know what he can DO about the situation. Tell him, if you have an opinion on the matter at hand - what he can/should DO about the situation, given the stated dynamics. -

Please explain how morals have anything to do with your son wearing a shirt outside or not. He's more moral for wearing a shirt??? -

So if you're the OP - what do you do? What you offered up in your exercise in word economy has no practical application for him. There's really nothing for the OP to do but to mind his own business. He can't make his neighbor's daughters conform to HIS idea of what they should wear or where they should go on their own property. It's interesting to see the number of ridiculous responses like yours that do not help the OP deal with the dynamics of this issue. -
Where we are today, Pubby, is in the crapper. As long as politicians can sell their votes to the highest bidder, our system of government is doomed. It can't survive. Politicians have already shown that they will do anything and say anything for a buck. This precludes any possibility of common-sense solutions to problems. Let's say that the issue is as easy as making generic drugs the standard and ridding the system of the super-expensive "branded" drugs (which the drug companies SAY that they need exclusivity to pay for R and D) All that has to happen, assuming that the politicians

Subby, you provide a really good illustration here. Your daughters are great chicks. Lovely girls, but I see them as your daughters - and that fact would not change regardless of their attire. I think that this is the only respectul attitude to have, whether the guy is 16 or 60. Admittedly, a 16 year old boy will not naturally have this attitude, but that's where the parents come in. In my opinion, the OP should be teaching his sons that it's rude to gawk at female neigbors. It's disrespectful to the girls AND the parents. I'm not sure, though that the OP who characterized the 12 - -

So there are four girls next door, aged 12 to 16. The guys are staring at "All the goods"??? Can you see that the problem isn't the girls, but that you shouldn't be looking at or commenting on underage girls? 12??? You can do something about the display. You and your boys can get your mind out of your pants when it comes to underage girls. You can speak to your sons about the necessity of not getting involved with underage girls. 12???? Girls wear less when it's hot.Boys, too. There doesn't have to be water present for them to be dressed appropriate for having fun in their own yard. To -
I kinda think that you're right on target about the lack of chemistry.

I would think that this is an excellent opportunity to speak to your own children - not to someone else's kids! Tell your kids that while it's natural to look at another person with interest, it's rude to stare. It's improper to gawk. Don't objectify women! The girls next door have names. They are probably nice people! It seems like an excellent teaching moment that you, the OP, seems to have squandered. If they are doing something illegal, call the police. Otherwise what people do on their own property is their business. -
I didn't get that there was a possibiility of their being an item. If an insider is talking up a relationship between them, it would be to put a stop to other talk. Oh, yeah - IMO.

Mark Haines died suddenlylast night at his home. The cause of death was no immediately released. Years ago I watched Mr. Haines show regularly, when I wrote a regular stock trading column on a dot com site. I respected his common sense view ot economics and his dry sense of humor. Here's an article about his untimely death: http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/cnbc-anchor-mark-haines-passes-away_b68235

Especially since the child's mouth was duct-taped. Why was her mouth duct-taped if she drowned?
