Has anyone posted the instant karma video yet?
audioslave replied to michelay1000's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Intellectual honesty. Hence, why I have grown to respect you--even when we disagree. You are respectful and that is a virtue I appreciate. With that said, I agree with you and while I did laugh my ass off at the video, I would like to use this as an opportunity for a PSA: For the love of all that is decent and earthly, please people, when you record with a cell phone hold it SIDEWAYS. -
Rash of thefts in two New Hope neighborhoods last night
audioslave replied to JuliaG's topic in Paulding County NEWS
As the repoman who was creeping about my yard a few weeks ago (he was at the wrong house--all my stuff is paid for, however, he decided to accost me anyway) can attest, if it is past 'visiting hours' and you are in my yard and/or knock on my door, I will greet you with an automatic 12ga. Lurkers, thieves, bottom-feeders, and other criminal types be warned. -
Citizens speak at March 25th Commission's morning session
audioslave replied to gpatt0n's topic in Fastread page
Huh? Did you slip and fall in the shower this morning? I am not quite following what on God's green earth you are talking about. The logic doesn't jive. I understand what you are trying to say about about criticism and inaction, however, your talk about nothing being said when folks didn't think there was anything to say doesn't make any sense.- 6 replies

Are you for or against the death penalty?
audioslave replied to cookies are sweet's topic in RECENT TOPICS
To clarify: I am not proposing anyone who has been convicted of murder be released from prison, period. The phrase 'it is better to let ten guilty men go than to punish one innocent' is admittedly broad and arbitrary. However, the essence is the same and doesn't solely apply to those accused or convicted of murder. It could be any crime. In an imperfect system where disparities and inequities exist--and probably always will, not to mention the fact that innocent people have been condemned to death only to be exonerated many years later, life without parole is much easier for me -
Are you for or against the death penalty?
audioslave replied to cookies are sweet's topic in RECENT TOPICS
All of my Crim Professors actually happen to have started their careers as practitioners. Two came from probation, one from corrections and probation, and one from law enforcement. My Constitutional Law professor was actually quite conservative--he was ex assistant Attorney General of Ohio that argued against George Wallace's attempts to get on the presidential ballot. The ex police officer was actually influential in the way you see convenience stores designed now days. His dissertation work was on armed robbery patterns of small gas stations/conv stores. His dissertation work was instr -
Are you for or against the death penalty?
audioslave replied to cookies are sweet's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I did read your post already, however, in fairness I reread it (the first time was when you originally posted but only decided to weigh in tonight). I should say for the record that my maternal uncle was murdered. However, my views are unaltered by that. I spent several years of my life intensely studying criminality (I have a BS in Criminolgy from UWG) and a lot of my research and interest was focused on correctional programs, disparity in sentencing patterns, and capital punishment. This hardly makes me am authority on the subject, however, it undoubtedly shaped my understanding and vi -
Are you for or against the death penalty?
audioslave replied to cookies are sweet's topic in RECENT TOPICS
For me, the death penalty serves no purpose but to quell the fire in the belly of most of those who support it. It does not deter crime and it is not cheaper than isolating someone for the rest of their life. Statistically, any one of us on this board is susceptible to being wrongly accused and convicted of a crime, namely a capital crime. The historical record proves this. Further, it starkly holds that there are those who have sat on death row, some having met their mortal fate as a fettered prisoner, only to be exonerated. Hence, another reason for me to be ambivalent. Love our -
Precisely. Also, the 777 has two engines, not four.

Secret meetings, code names, forgetting about minutes

Pubby, Further, speaking of Emerson....you know, Ralph Waldo? I have been a huge fan and reader of his works since I was 16 when my American Lit teacher introduced me to his writing. I am not quite sure I understand your application of that quote in this thread, however, let's not forget the same man also said: ""The highest compact we can make with our fellow is, -- ‘Let there be truth between us two forever more.’ "" -Emerson -
Secret meetings, code names, forgetting about minutes

Pubby, You have yet to address the cold hard fact. You have, however, now called it 'Blake blowing Todd off' in addition to an 'understatement.' Call it what it was, a lie. -

I am not pro or categorically against. However, the 'lie' I am referring to had nothing to do with someone changing their mind--it was a flat-out lie. -

Pubby, You are grossly misleading folks with what you are saying and here is why: The airport has had an FBO (Fixed Base Operator) since 2010. Given that fact, if Blake Swafford answered Todd's inquiry in the fashion you are stating, then Blake Swafford LIED to Todd. No two ways about it. Todd asked the Airport Director a direct question and received an answer containing 'FBO.' Further, you state there were some other issues going on at the time with the FBO. A commercial air service terminal operator is not an FBO--by any stretch of the imagination. An FBO, by definition, -
Ana Rountree is probably one of the best estate lawyers in the area. I am not sure on her fees these days, however, she is worth every penny.

Fred Phelps - Reported to be near death in hospice.
audioslave replied to ihaveadog's topic in RECENT TOPICS
This has crossed my mind before. Certainly possible--and one of those things that I have taken into account while utterly perplexed as to what truly fueled his hate. See, I understand anger; even anger so intense that you want to harm something or someone else. However, that type of anger is usually short-lived and is many times situational; more times than not attributed to drugs, alcohol, passion, love, etc. Maybe Fred was gay, maybe not. Perhaps he is just a product of how he was raised--maybe he is genuinely that passionate about what he feels is Biblical doctrine. In the -

audioslave replied to ihaveadog's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Eh, I don't hate the guy or wish him misery, death, or the two combined. I certainly abhorred his beliefs, messages, demonstrations, and attacks on others--but I didn't let hate consume me as it had obviously done to him. In a strange kind of way, watching his internet rants were both intriguing and oddly entertaining. Insofar as the intrigue it sparked in me as to ponder WTF made this guy tick. I won't be his judge. I believe you get what you give and he can take that up with who or whatever he finds on the other side. -
A certain Mexican restaurant was on the news
audioslave replied to michelay1000's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Agreed. It has been a dump since the old owner. I recall having fajitas there many moons ago that HAD to have been a set of Goodyear treads cut to resemble steak. Further, if there has every existed a such thing as 'instant, just add water refried beans', they were served there. Horrid place. -

Elizabeth Osborne Williams withdraws from race

The thing is, if this was the ultimate intent, it would have been much easier for him to have simply announced his retirement after the election. My assumption is some are still used to the shenanigans going unnoticed and/or uncriticized. Perhaps the attention this has gotten, rightfully so, is a sign of some of the 'same cheeze different day' way of doing stuff changing. I believe in the innate good of everyone--or at least try to see it. However, I am not so naive to fail to acknowledge that there are those who will otherwise push the envelope as long as nobody is complaining. -
It has nothing to do with competence. However, beyond that, I am not sure (these days) what the argument is for or against. I do know that once upon a time it was one of man-power. The argument being you don't want deputies tied to taking accident reports and ending up with a backlog of calls and nobody available to answer them.

audioslave replied to Riptides's topic in RECENT TOPICS
What really pisses me off is that now, due to the shenanigans, we, the voters of this county, don't get to cast a vote for the judgeship. I hope everyone has scrutinized how this has played out and actually 'gets' the totality of the harm they have done to the democratic process and the impact to the public's trust in the judiciary as a whole. EDITED: To remove me quoting Feelip's post (not really sure why/how I did that). -
