  1. Since MCMM lives out of state, I doubt he'll be utilizing any of the things you listed. I can't believe he'd rather have his property taxes raised than let visitors to our stores and restaurants help pay for this. What was that he said about voting yourself a tax increase???
  2. While all three of these people running might be fine gentlemen, I don't think we have very good choices in this race. Too bad, it's a very important one. I think I have made up my mind.
  3. I agree with you, at first I thought it was a good thing to expand Parks and Rec some because of the cut in Middle School sports. Then someone told me it could only be used for land purchases and equipment and I thought there was no way I could vote for that. I was corrected that it includes capital expenditures, too. Upkeep and maintenance, not salaries for those things but the expenditures. So because of this thread I went from yes to no and back to yes.
  4. I have to agree with you. There was a time when local races were decided by the folks candidates sat down and spoke with. Nothing can replace the one on one eye contact between a candidate and his voting public.
  5. Yep. Tahoe, I don't know the answer to this question, I could look it up but do you know if SPLOST was responsible for moving from an all volunteer fire department to paid firemen?? Seems like I remember something about this.
  6. You are welcome, I really enjoy having civil "conversations".
  7. The folks running this county have spent our tax dollars foolishly and on pet projects for a very, very long time. I dont' want to convince you otherwise because I agree with you, however please keep in mind they will get the money one way or another so why not let neighboring counties that use our roads, parks and other amenities help pay for it. SPLOST is not a tax burden solely on the people of Paulding, SPLOST is a tax paid by every person that buys something in Paulding whether they live here or not.
  8. I completely understand your point and I agree to an extent. That North East corridor that has all those fancy new houses seem to think they need the best amenities our money can buy, fancy fire stations, big ole parks, a hospital of their own........ There is certainly not that much effort put in to the West side of the county nor is there near the $ spent. I say let those Cobb snobs that moved there and those that live right over the line pay a sales tax for the things they insist on having. Those that don't even live here that do and will utilize those big fancy parks should pay th
  9. I couldn't agree more................
  10. Dick Donovan - I disagree about arguing a case before the court, my personal experiences with him have been just the opposite. I actually felt sorry for his client in the criminal case and I was a witness for the prosecution!!!
  11. BEFORE SPLOST.............. Most of the roads were gravel and didn't have much gravel on them anymore. We didn't have a very large population and most folks knew each other. Crime rate was very, very low........we didn't need as many policemen. The fire department was almost 100% volunteer, if your house caught on fire it probably didn't make it.
  12. I agree, we are kind of at the lesser of three evils here. Here we go......... positive - Drew Lane, nice guy, really tries. postive - Donald R. (Dick) Donovan, nothing yet. positive - Chad Plumley, community oriented, is a great guy and serves where needed both professionally and as a volunteer. I'm sure I'll have more later but in a rush right now.
  13. OK, I'm convinced!!! Perhaps our BOC will be sensible enough to keep spending under control. I will be voting YES!!
  14. I just have a huge issue with Donovan on this post http://paulding.com/forum/index.php?/topic/247489-wfal-v-donovan/page__pid__3193492__st__0entry3193492 and the one in another thread. Very unprofessional.
  15. You're right, we have at least one Magistrate Judge that has no legal background at all. Interesting. Thanks for the info.
  16. I know he used to. His web site has a Douglasville address and I can only find a PO Box in Hiram. My link
  17. My only contact with Chad Plumley has been in Magistrate court once and serving on the nominating committee for the Boy Scouts in Paulding County. Here's a little more info on Chad Plumley from his web site. <snip> Chad Plumley Now off to find out a little more about all three candidates.
  18. Can't believe no one has started a thread about this one. Last election this seemed to be a hot topic. I am familiar with all three candidates and have a question specifically for deadeye aka Dick Donovan. Could you please tell us why you left Paulding County and moved your practice to Douglas County?? You have been very vocal in another thread about a specific case, now can you give us some specifics about yourself??
  19. Noooo!!! You are one of the better residents in that subdivision!! Can't you rent out the apartment to generate some much needed income??
  20. Tow, the absolute best way to stop blossom rot is to mulch your plants. Blossom rot happens when they get too much water, then not enough. I think it's a built in mechanism to keep the plant alive, it kills the fruit. We mulch ours with pine straw when we plant them, haven't had much of a problem since we started doing this, it regulates the moisture level.
  21. Congats Subby!!! Here's to many more wonderful years together
  22. Awww, congrats BB for your thirty wonderful years. Have lots of fun!! :yahoo: And to Subby and Pubby as well.
  23. Prayers for Grayson and his mommy and daddy. Sorry they had to go through this, but very glad it's not too serious. ((((hugs))) to twokidsandabun.
  24. I have a snoopy snow cone machine, you have to crank it by hand and they sell the syrup at stores. You can actually make your own with Koolaid. Good luck!!
