I agree wholeheartedly with you that there are some things only governments can do. Building interstate freeways, digging canals and bringing electricity to rural areas are certainly good examples of that. But movie studios ? I'm sorry but I see very little difference in a county owned movie studio and the commissioners deciding they wanted to go into the hotel motel business or opening up a chain of Paulding county Chick fil A restaurants. I rarely I disagree with you but on this one I just can't see it..

For the most part you may have a point much of Europe has limited most of it's violence to world wars and Jewish holocaust. On the other hand theres Italy, the very seat of Christianity and perhaps the most religious country in all of Europe. You really can't get a more mature culture dating back to the Roman empire. And yet for decades and to some extent to this day was virtually governed by the La Costra Nostra. Where murders revenge killings extortion and kidnappings were common fare.
