  1. The biggest thing that anyone can do is stay involved in the process. MAKE YOUR PUBLIC SERVANT SERVE YOU! Email and phone calls are the most effective way to let people know that you are paying attention. Specifically, make every single candidate lay out their vision for this county. Don't let them BS you with talking points about "gov't does not create jobs". We know that! What we need to know is what your plan is? Have you even spoken to and reached out to other members of the State and local gov.? Can/will you work with them on doing what is best for Paulding County? In
  2. Madea, you seem to be ahead of the curve. Economics and education are two sides of the same coin.
  3. I don't think you can have a real discussion about economic development without talking about education. All of the candidates must take a "Team Paulding" approach to the problem. This means including the other largest entity of government in the county and the entity with the largest number of employees. Namely the B.O.E. If we are to solve the major problems of this county we will need all players executing to help move the ball forward. These are tough times for our county. True leaders step up in times of need. "True individual freedom cannot exist without ec
  4. I did win. I just wanted to say thank you to the candidates that ran and lost.
  5. Nope. My sons are six and two. and I am proud to say that we are preparing for the first grade at a public school.
  6. The first time I ran for public office I lost. I remember vividly that I was happy the election was over but saddened by the results. The final speech and phone calls the next day only made the matter worse. Looking back at the process I can honestly say that the experience changed my life. When you advocate strongly for you community and the ideas that you believe will make it better everyone wins. It may not feel like a win today but it is a win. Your experience is something no person could ever take away and many will never duplicate. I hope you will take pride in the fact th
  7. This place is the grill masters paradise! I smoked a brisket for the 4th and it was great and The black angus hot dogs are all my boys want to eat now!
  8. Yep. "Was" may be the better term. I think we will get more representation but the money will not flow the same. I actually advocate us planning on not getting the money. Like the generations that grew up during the great depression, we have to learn to make do with less!
  9. I think we have flattened out some in the last year or two but population growth is usually not measured on a year to year basis. The Census Bureau population count is actually the most relevant measure because it helps determine the distribution of federal funds.
  10. I agree. We must have leaders who understand the big picture and who understand that a diverse economy (goods, services and technology) holds the key to sustained economic growth. The BOE must do our part to help create educated citizens who will contribute to the economic vitality of the county. The BOE, County Commisioners, local municipal governments, community and business leaders all have a critical role to play in economic development and we can not afford to have a weak link in the chain.
  11. Preaching to the choir as they say! But it is truly worth repeating!
  12. Stay at the Peabody hotel and then walk to Beale St. Go to BB Kings and here the blues. Check out Morgan's place. Be safe!
  13. I think that is the concern of most Paulding County residents. The challenge is to help some of our citizens, business leaders, elected and newly elected (this fall) officials understand the link between education and economic development. One area does not rise with out the other!
  14. Two of the 10 fastest growing counties in the United States are in metro Atlanta, according to a recent report by cnnmoney.com. As the next member of the Paulding County Board of Education I want to ensure that we are prepared for the opportunities that come with growth. What are your concerns with being one of the "fastest growing counties" in the nation? How should we continue to meet our obligations in education with limited resources?
  15. This is a great movie! Loved it the first time I saw it and I am now going to pick up my copy!
  16. I personally have not voted on election day in over four years. I have either voted by absentee ballot or voted in advance. With all of the obligations in life why not perform your duty early? Early voting and absentee voting are great options and I encourage everyone to vote early! I look forward to speaking with everyone at the Repuclican candidate meet and greet this Saturday June 19th.
  17. I took my mother to Rodney's for breakfast this morning. It was her birthday and she really enjoyed a good breakfast. Thanks Rodney's!
