  1. I read this morning that the coroner has reported that this kid used a 22 rifle on his mother, no mention of the rifles action.
  2. It's pulling decorations off the front of the house and I've got a snowman that's gone facedown in the lawn like he's been hitting the eggnog a bit too hard.
  3. I watched a lady the other day stuff a 7 foot Christmas tree in the back of a little Honda. I think I saw a child sitting in the back seat too. Excellent gesture on your part. Merry Christmas!
  4. Could have done that today too, there's no restrictions on the sale of Pyrodex, but that wasn't his choice.
  5. I've always been amazed at the lack of security at out public schools especially the lower grades. You want to get on the property? Carry a clipboard and a measuring tape and look like you're supposed to be there. No one will say a word to you. The only way to secure these buildings, based on the campus configurations and the way they use them, is to secure the perimeter, which means high fences and a secured gate just like a military base.
  6. Just a couple of thoughts The vast majority of gun owners don't go on shooting rampages, but then neither do the majority of mentally ill, white male loners. How do you identify the problem ones and how do you force them to get help? If we were back in the days of the Brown Bess and other muzzle loading weapons he wouldn't have killed as many. Isn't it interesting that the teachers retirement system of California had no problem with making money from the sale of "assault weapons" before this shooting, suddenly they seem to have gotten religious.
  7. A few years ago a friend realized that he and his wife, being empty nester, had little to do on Christmas morning so they put together a Christmas morning breakfast for like people. The only requirement is that you have to show up in your jammies. Fred cooks to order, omlets, belgin waffles, pastries, all the breakfast meats, and mimosas! Picture a bunch of hairy, tatooed bikers standing around at 9AM in fuzzy slippers and elmo pants eating western omlets and kicking back a toddy.
  8. How about that song Carol Burnett always did at the end of each of her shows? "I'm so glad we had this time together...."
  9. We're giddy with anticipation here. Sure, for the kids, and my Mom is stopping by on her way to Florida, this'll be her first Christmas here and our second since my Dad passed. But one of the things we're most happy about came indirectly from these forums. I've read these posts about people being down, family members no longer here, kids grown up, no Christmas spirit, etc and couldn't help thinking that people were missing the real meaning of Christmas and the opportinity to do some real good in the world. But then I looked at myself and thought, "OK what have YOU done this year to make a diff
  10. But the money is mostly in one place with only one door on the vault. Kids in a school are all over the place with multiple entrances to the buildings, trailers out back, a seperate gym building, a stadium, kinda hard to cover with just one "guard", you'd need a small army of officers to be effective.
  11. Any time I ask a police office about what we can do to stop speeders on my street I get the same answer, "We have only so many officers and they can't be everywhere". That's why there's a need for personal protection because a high quality police officer won't be there when you need then the most. As for that type of firearm, you know he could have killed just as many with the two handguns he had in his posession, each has a clip capacity of over ten rounds and a good shooter can change clips in seconds. That rifle is accurate out to some 400+ yards while the Glock and Sig Sauer he carried
  12. The one with the problem in this article is the mother. The kid puts on the wrong color pants dispite the school rules that he was aware of, wants to argue with his mother about it then calls her a b*tch and threatens to kill her....and all she does is ground him from his electronics for the rest of the day? Seriously? That's the punishment? If that's all she's done in the past it's no wonder the kid thinks he can do as he pleases. He should have lost ALL privileges for a month just for being disrespectful. If you ground for a day the kid thinks he can weasel out, ground him for a month and he
  13. I agree with you but it seems in this case the mother was held accountable for her inactions/negligence as she was shot dead.
  14. It's possible that the kid got a hold of one gun or maybe even a knife and made her open the safe if present, at this time we don't know what happened inside that house that started the whole thing and we may never know.
  15. Keep in mind that most schools, especially the upper grades, are actually a campus with students moving from one building to another. If you needed an access card to get into your next classroom building, along with 100 other students, it would take forever. If you unlocked the doors between classes, a perpetrator would just wait till that opportunity to get in. If it's a student at the school they would already have a card and be in anyway.
  16. The big news yesterday was that Rush is going into the Rock Hall of Fame. Shame is they have to share the spot light this year with Public Enemy and Randy Newman, when did the likes of Flava-Flav and Short People become rock?
  17. What movie remake is better than the original? (This should be a much shorter list)
  18. Because of that one child, that's why I always decorate. Christmas is a celebration of that one child born so many years ago and that celebration is to be shared with each child today. For years (15+) I had no children to celebrate with or decorate for and it would have been real easy to put in zero effort like most of the houses in the subdivision. But every year I put up a tree and put my life at risk to string lights on the house (I'd have to setup an extension ladder in the bed of my truck to get the highest point of the house). I knew that to the kids in the neighborhood, seeing a house a
  19. Channel 2 news tonight stated that they have charged the bus driver with following too close. They also added that the driver is very distraught. Sure did miss Andrews welcoming smile this past Sunday morning. Prayers for the family.
  20. The Ghost of Christmas Present gives Scrooge a warning: "This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased." So much of this movie applies to todays world.
  21. You forgot to mention that to be the "low cost leader" they have to buy their goods from the cheapest suppliers which means China and Bangladesh, not the good ole USA (no job for Faith there either). I see a shirt factory burned in Bangladesh killing over 120 workers, some of which were told to go back to work as the place burned. Walmart or their reps apparently inspect the place and had let it go on.
  22. I too love this version and own a copy. There's a darkness and an unrefined quality of the film that adds to the story line.
  23. Don't the carry all kinds of outdoor stuff, like wind chimes, lawn ornaments and similar?
  24. A lot of that info is published on the county's tax assessors web site as its considered to be public information. It can differ county to county but the first thing I do when I have a real estate assessment (its not often I do residential) I go to the countys tax assessors web page and look at the particulars. Size of the structure, number of floors, the siding type, fireplaces, baths, any improvements, amount paid, taxes paid or due, mortgage company name, past owners, most have aerial views of the property and at least Fulton County has pictures taken from the street. The only properties th
