  1. The loan shark story reminds me of a buddy of mine. He was a gruff tough guy from Chicago and his nickname for his wife was "Dragline". (the nickname was a term of affection and she was well aware of it) Back in '82, when Washington were playing Miami in the Super Bowl, my buddy and I made a $10 bet on the game. I won. When I went to collect, my buddy told me, "Stradial, I can't pay you. Dragline only allows me enough money for a pack of cigarettes and two Cokes a day." I was shocked, but it was true. Here is the story why his wife doled out his daily allowance. Back in the day when
  2. My Christmas wish? Get out of the basement.
  3. The reason that the Braves and the Falcons have attendance issues is because Atlanta is a transplant town. Just as LA is. That is why LA has always had issues selling out for MLB and the NFL. The local people have always been reluctant to support their pro teams, unless it is the bandwagon thing to do. Even then, how many people say, I will only go if someone gives me tickets. Pro teams need repeat customers, otherwise known as season ticket holders. That is the problem here in ATL, the only time that season ticket sales go up is when there is a bandwagon effect and when that ride is ove
  4. Nice tree. But the fluffing part was distracting.
  5. My mother still has my diploma from Campbell. She is using it to prop up a corner of the porch. (get it....like S&D's Nanna said, stone tablet....see it is made of stone so she uses it to prop up the corner of the porch....trust me....it's funny)
  6. Even if their ass's weren't sorry, they don't deserve a new stadium. BTW my ass is never sorry, sore at times, but never sorry
  7. Yeh, I didn't think it through. It was your thread that caused me to post it. But there was a time lag between thinking it and posting it and I forgot what made me think of it in the first place. Senior moment is what I am blaming.
  8. First, let's look at the Dallas Cowboy's situation. America's team has is one of the NFL top franchises, they have been to record 8 Super Bowls and have won 5 of them. They have had 160 record sellouts at their stadiums and they have a record 20 straight winning seasons, with 30 playoff appearances. BUT, they played in Texas Stadium from 1971 until 2008, 37 years. Thirty-seven years without a new stadium for a team that is one of the top franchises in the league. Now let's look at the Falcons. Well....we all know their history, they have been up and down more than a Duncan yo-yo. The
  9. I've never heard it either. (at least referring to around here)
  10. Back in the early 80's I lived in that area where the stadium is going. (I'm from Smyrna, so in a way, I have always lived somewhat in the area) At that time we lived in unincorporated Cobb County, neither in the city limits of Smyrna or Marrietta. Our mailing address was Atlanta, GA and our mail was delivered out of the Smyrna Post Office. Go figure, unincorporated Cobb, ATL address and the Smyrna USPO handled the mail.
  11. Never, if I had my way. (yes, I am a scrooge)
  12. A fellow from up north was driving the back roads of south Alabama one day. He was coming up to a 4-way stop and could see for miles in all directions, no cars were coming from the left, the right or from in front. The man slowed down as eased through the stop sign. Where he didn't look was behind him, where the AL State Trooper was. The trooper pulled the man over and told him he was being pulled over for failure to stop at the stop sign. The man replied, "They put those stop signs at intersections in order to make crossing the intersection safe. I know I didn't stop, but as I could cle
  13. Otherwise know as, "The Good Old Days".
  14. Since I use the term baby boy and baby girl for my grandkids (and on the rare occasion for the wife, you know, when the mood is on me) those terms are ok. Or weekends. (anyone got any extra pills?) (uhhh, not for me you understand....they're for a friend...I never needed them)
  15. You are right about the wife being intellectually superior, but sadly she has been brainwashed by the liberal left (ok, in her case the socialist left), sorta like some others I could mention. BTW it worked just fine till that socialist FDR started the cradle to the grave mentality. But even FDR made the people work for their supper, remember the CCC camps? I say we give it a try and let's see if it works. Oh, don't misunderstand, there will be some people that will not receive help, but them again, MAYBE it is because those who know them know they are not worthy of help. I have one
  16. Now your talking my language! I agree with this, but sadly this American can't help pick up another down on their luck American, because the government is taking my money, at the point of a gun, and giving to themselves and whoever they deem fit and not letting me choose what fellow American I wish to help. I who earned that money, I who should be able to pick and choose who I wish to help with my money!
  17. I don't enjoy it and no one I talk to enjoys it. It is the downfall of the American way. I say Walter for President! That is a puppet that I can relate to.
  18. I caught it, I just wasn't sure what to do with it once I had it. (but it was interesting)
  19. I think it is weird, but on that topic I guess I am the weird one because my wife, the vet people, the wife's best friend and just about everyone else insist that I am the dogs and cats daddy. I keep telling them I am not a daddy, I am an owner, but no one listens to me. In fact, they just laugh and say "Whatever. You're their daddy." One day, they will all listen to me or face my wrath! (sorry, I got a little megalomaniacal there for a minute, must be medication time)
  20. I think we can all agree that we should not be held responsible for what we say while drinking. The words, "You are soooo beautiful, I love you.", come to mind when discussing this topic.
