  1. I got lucky in Hiram, never lost my power or uverse cable. Sorry for those of you still dealing with this tonight. In any case, while I was texting to a friend who lost her power for a few hours tonight, I was giving her info from a iphone app I have called " 5-0 Radio Free." It's a police scanner app, that you allow to use your location, and I was able to pick up on Paulding County Sheriff & Fire's scanner. Very handy, I could give my friend info on her area that wasn't being broadcast on TV. It was pretty scary for her to hear sirens and not know why or where they were headed, and I cou
  2. Gordon's a funny guy. Have you seen his Harlem Shake video yet?

    Quinoa

I use it in place of rice when I make vegetable stir fry. It has a mild nutty taste, like brown rice. Very filling too, it doesn't take much to make me feel full.
  4. Cook? I'm not gonna cook. I'm headed over to your house.
  5. I wouldn't be surprised if Meyer & Yahoo are using this as a sneaky way to avoid bad publicity layoffs would bring. People who cannot adhere to the new policy (especially if it would involve relocating their own families) are probably going to quit. If she wants rid of people, this is a way to do it and not make it look like Yahoo is having to do a "reduction in force" and look like they are failing. I would have loved to been able to work from home at my previous job, at least part of the time. The 200 miles a week total commute time, which was 8 hrs in itself, got to be very expensiv
  6. If I heard correctly, this woman also came back to work 2 weeks after having her baby. That's just nuts and makes me question her personal concern & commitment to her own family, as well as of her employees.
  7. I had this crazy old lady tell me that "God was going to get me" for sending her a bill. I told her, "Lady, I don't listen to Existential Threats" and hung up on her.
  8. You are correct on that, the more complicated procedures do involve the actual radiologists at the time of service. Most routine mammograms and x-rays just involved the tech performing them, and the radiologist is involved afterward. What I probably got yelled at the most when I worked phones was when insurance didn't pay for a mammogram that the patient thought that it would. Routine "screening" mammograms are usually paid for (albeit there are some restrictions like age range or frequency) but "diagnostic" mammograms involve more "views" (pictures taken) and are often not. Diagnostic ma
  9. I do (or did, before my layoff) medical billing for what is often called "ancillary providers" or "blind providers." Those are the doctors you don't actually see, but they work on your case, such as anesthesiologists and radiologists. It's the law in GA that the billing for these doctors is separate from the facility (hospital, etc.) It has to do with some convoluted & complicated anti-kickback rules. I'm not sure if it's a federal law, or just state-by-state. When you go get an x-ray, or whatever done, there's a disclaimer you have to read and sign, but the reality is, it's never really t
  10. Glad to see the good news! Some cats can tolerate (and love) plain yogurt. My 2 cats love it. They were given it back when they were at the PC shelter because it is good for their stomach. Yogurt has a lower amount of lactose in it from what I've read, which may be why adult cats can tolerate it better than milk or other dairy.
  11. If you still have the empty can of food, bring it with you to the vet. If there's a recall of any sort, that can may have some tracking numbers on it. You need to try to keep kitty hydrated, with water or chicken broth. Warming it might help. So will rice, if you can get kitty to eat it (some suggest adding boiled unseasoned chicken or rice.) Is the cat in any pain, that you can tell? Any vomiting? Any other pets sick? I agree with MissSophie, a vet trip today if possible is best.
  12. I'm sorry, I don't have a direct quote, but I think earlier this evening on CNN they had a law enforcement official of some sort who said that depending on the type of tear gas used, that it could possibly react in a manner that could create a fire if there were something flammable in the cabin, such as propane.
  13. Now the LAPD is saying the burned cabin has not been entered by police and no body has been found or identified. Very odd.
  14. It's over. CBS News has learned from a law enforcement source that a body recovered from a burned cabin in Big Bear, California, is believed to be that of Christopher Dorner, the fired former LAPD officer who was suspected of earlier killing three people, and was the subject of an intense manhunt. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57569072/flames-engulf-cabin-where-ex-l.a-cop-believed-holed-up/
  15. I don't think Dorner will be taken alive, personally. I think he'll save the cops a bullet and the govt a trial.
  16. Well that makes a lot more sense than leaving a perfectly good cake outside.
  17. I could never figure out why anybody would stick a cake outside in the rain in the first place.
  18. Oh you did not do this. I'm somebody now.
  19. I blame the Organic Brownies I used to eat in college. They affected my hearing.
  20. Human League's "Don't You Want Me, Baby." No, I don't. You're annoying.
  21. Oh, I LOVE that song. My Cats totally hate it, though.
  22. You're kidding me. Seriously? I never looked up the lyrics. Well, hellfire. No wonder I always hated that song. I could never figure out why Bruce Springsteen would write a song about feminine products.
  23. I'm just glad I'm middle-aged now and don't have to listen to the crap the kids are all in to.
