  1. I put on my sunglasses yesterday for the 3 minutes the sun broke through and my sunglasses squinted.
  2. The video shows how the witnesses could have described what they saw as a "CARTWHEEL." I'm sure they didn't have their aviation dictionary in their pocket. Just read that the pilot, Lee Kang Gook, (I couldn't make this up) only had 43 hours flight time in the 777. That could be as little as 4 actual landings. Probably the first landing without ILS. Seems kind of ridiculous that this would be allowed. Looks like it will be pilot error.
  3. I have hydraulic steering. Stays in a straight line when you let go of the steering wheel. No torque feed back. My 1986 had dual cable rack and pinion steering and it didn't have much feedback. Also, a hotfoot is a good idea for high performance boats.. This is a 1985 or '86 Procraft. You can actually turn the steering wheel by twisting the outboard by hand. The torque from the prop will turn the motor and cause the boat to circle.
  4. Call it what you will, but this would have made me soil my FOLs. video of crash
  5. The sad part is that it is completely avoidable if you just hook up the kill switch lanyard. These old boats with cable steering will circle around and run over you every time.
  6. Just to clarify my "confusion" about the cartwheel. If the plane was doing a "ground loop" and one wing was 10 feet higher than the other, at certain vantage points it would appear to be cartwheeling. Doesn't have to be wing tip to wing tip to qualify as a cartwheel. We're talking airplanes, not cheerleaders.
  7. The crew had requested a go around a couple of seconds before impact. This would suggest that everything was operating fine, probably just undershot the approach.
  8. I'm betting it did cartwheel. And I can see in the photos that at least one door is blocked by the right engine that is laying against the fuselage. I don't think it was ever upside down but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't spin horizontally 360 degrees. There is landing gear and other major pieces strewn 1/2 mile up the runway. That was a lot of energy to dissipate in a short distance.
  9. Turning lemons into lemonade.
  10. Yep. But the belly of the plane directly under the burned area is composite. Probably has nothing to do with the fire or the crash. But I am fascinated with aircraft design. The last tri-7 crash was caused by fuel icing. Never heard that it was because of the composite wing construction, AND the problem was supposedly resolved. But this crash is very similar. Loss of power at landing engine spool up. If that is the case, the pilots did a hell of a job getting this monster on the runway.
  11. That was not a fire from the fuel tanks or there would not have been any recognizable wreckage. The 777 is a composite aircraft. Not sure if the composite materials played a role in the fire or not.
  12. There is a great cigar that is out right now if you can find them. Punch Rare Corojo. They are only available once a year and we are nearing the end of the season for them. If I can get my hands on a few I will PM you and make sure your nephew gets one. Take a breath. He will be home soon. Give him my sincere thanks for his service.
  13. The NTSB and the FAA always have a way of making these mishaps "pilot error." This is more than likely Boeing error. Either a malfunctioning computer or another fuel freeze / loss of power. Let's see how convoluted our government and the media will make this to protect a large corporation (Boeing).
  14. There was a lot of lucky people on that airplane. That one nearly landed in the bay. Looks like a large piece is laying in the water.
  15. Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. Some are a little more expensive than others.
  16. DO you go to work to make friends or to make money?
  17. The frozen ones in the tube? Sour Apple?
  18. This is really easy for me. I HATE Paula Deen, Walmart and Smithfield. I have always boycotted al three of them and I will continue. And if someone else would carry Icees, I would never set foot in Sam's again either.
  19. Is this guy related to Paula Deen? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1OXAi7rNMg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elCZBwspcQ0 Anyone have a rock?
  20. So us old folks have a means of communication that the whippersnappers can't de-code? I think that might come in handy in the future.
  21. I had grown to despise Paula long before all this. She comes across as an ignorant loud mouth and I can not tolerate the YAWWL thing. I think she has pretty much stepped on her d*ck.
  22. That's a pretty good salad if you have them hold those nasty onion things.
