State government offices are open even though the Governor declared a state of emergency. There's some critical thinking at work.

All state offices are officially open even though the Governor issued a state of emergency. State employees must show up, take a vacation day, or not get paid.

In Snowjam my wife's car stalled and the battery died on I-20 near Lee Street downtown around 3 in the afternoon. I went to get her with my 4 wheel drive Toyota truck and quickly realized on the way back that you can't use your 4 wheel drive to go over other cars. We were stuck on I-20 for 5 hours until we crept up to where there was a fence. I knocked the freeway fence down with my truck and we were followed by dozens of pickups and large cars. We took MLK back to Hightower to get home and got back to Smyrna about 11:30. I told her to just stay at the office next time.

I remember '73. That was horrible. Hopefully this isn't anything like '73, although if memory serves, they were not predicting the severity of that storm, they were predicting sleet mixed with rain. We had over 2" of built up ice on trees and power lines bringing the entire region to a stop for 2 weeks.

This is true of "fuel" burning stoves. Propane camp stoves burn just as clean as a natural gas or propane range designed for residential kitchen use, and the fuel canisters are not explosive under normal use. Just like any stove, if you smell a "rotten egg" smell, turn off the canister and move the entire stove outdoors immediately. It may be defective, or there may be a leak. Check it thoroughly before using it again. Never use a white gas (Coleman Fuel), unleaded fuel, or kerosene stove indoors. The original question was specifically about a propane stove, not a fuel burner. All applianc

Fumes from a properly functioning propane camp stove are no more dangerous than the natural gas range in your home already. They are safe to cook with. You don't have to open a window if you only cook with the stove and don't use it for a long period to heat the house.

I know it's your first post, but you can't advertise your business here without a commerce membership. You can talk to PUBBY or LPPT about it. Welcome to Pcom. I hope you do well.

The economy will eventually improve in spite of the government, not because of it.

So could anything. I know a man who is set into a complete rage by the sound of a telephone ringing. Should we outlaw telephones, birds singing, books, music, the nightly news, the IRS or anything that a disturbed individual might react violently to? What's the frequency Kenneth? -
Don't for get to have cash on hand. ATM's and credit card transactions may be out for days. You may be able to walk to the store or even get out in your car long before the power returns, the transaction services are restored, and the ATM's are restocked. As for propane and kerosene heaters, you can use them judiciously in a large enough space. Crack a window on the lee side of the house in the same room the heater is in. Never use the heater in a closed room or a trailer unless it is equipped with an oxygen sensor or a CO sensor, and NEVER SLEEP WITH A KEROSENE OR PROPANE HEATER ON AN

I'll give you the audience comment for sure. It's the TMZ/Survivor mentality at work. -

The levity is not about the shooting, it's about the complete absurdity of the accusations of complacency. Too many people have been playing their albums backwards lately. I doubt that anyone would be blaming Nancy Pelosi and Rachel Maddow if she were a Republican, and that is precisely the point. This guy appears to be mentally unstable, yet it's always somebody else's fault. I don't recall anyone seriously blaming the Beatles for Helter Skelter. At least not anyone sensible. -

They've been talking about it on the Area 51 blogs for years. It was just a matter of time until it happened. -

We'll see won't we. I understand that Palin, teabaggers, and Beck are about all they talk about on left wing blogs/forums/media. I'm not surprised in the least. I'm really not sure what fascination Sarah Palin holds for the left wing media. If it wasn't for them, she would have drifted from memory months ago. That would be a good thing. I too hope she has a full recovery and returns to represent the people of her district, and my thoughts are with the families. It is a horrible event. -

We'll see if his vitriolic speculation is any better than anybody else's, now won't we? Isn't this the same Clarence Dupnik that refuses to enforce the AZ illegal immigration law? Not that he has a dog in this fight or anything. MRNN, I think I'll wait until I know a little more about this guy before I condemn Sarah Palin, teeabaggers, and talk radio. ETA: If I was a court appointed defense atty, I'd be loving this. -

Because the implications in this thread of cause and affect are ludicrous at best and show just how far some people will go to discredit others and make accusations of impropriety when none is called for. That's why. Now you are actually making distinctions between maps with concentric circle targets and cross hair targets as if one might be more sinister than another. Maybe Palin's was worse because it was blue, the color of the devil. See what I mean? It's completely absurd. People have gone off the deep end. The DLC didn't cause it and neither did Palin or the Tea Partiers. The shoo -

The heartland strategy begins by choosing likely targets for Democratic gains. Let's go to the map: "Behind Enemy Lines: President Bush won nine states by single digit margins. DLC Heartland Strategy Targets Districts For Democratic Gains Should we blame the Democratic Leadership Council???? -

DCCC Targets for 2012 "The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee will go after these Republicans during the next cycle." I forgot to add the DCCC to the list of "radical" political groups that "target" politicians for elimination. Yes this is a stretch, just like the Palin map. -

I obviously disagree. I seriously doubt this whacko ever saw that map. We obviously won't know unless he tells us, but I will lay you odds that Sarah Palin and the tea Party are the furthest thing from his twisted little mind. I still can't believe that you of all people jumped to that conclusion. What if she had been a Republican? Would you have made the same statement or would you have blamed Acorn, the SEIU, or Organizing for America? They "target" politicians. -

Why not a connection to Che Guevara, Malcolm X or Earth First? Why not FALN or Recreate 68? Why not connect his reading of The Communist Manifesto, Mein Kampf and Animal Farm to his "radicalization". Whatever would possess someone to connect a left wing nut job to right wing political groups that have never been accused of any wrongdoing, except to wrongfully condemn conservatives when a Democrat is shot? Is this what we've come to? He is crazy, but if this guy was influenced by anybody or anything, the least likely would be anything conservative. -

Unbelievable. So I guess that any idiot that shoots a public official will now be condemned as a teabagging palin loving gun nut regardless of his politics, because that's the way they roll. It is actually disturbing that anybody would make such a connection. -

It isn't all about you. Take a pill. MRNN said the congresswoman was on Palin's hitlist. If he didn't mean to imply that Palin inspired this whack job, then let him defend himself.
