  1. My Girl Friday starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russel, was based on the Ben Hecht play, "The Front Page" written in the 1928. This version: His Girl Friday (1940) directed by Howard Hawks considered the best of the adaptations, starring Cary Grant as Walter and Rosalind Russell as Hildy, who in this version is female and Walter's ex-wife. A romantic element is added to the plot, as Walter is trying to win Hildy back both professionally and personally. From the wiki: The play's single set is the dingy Press Room of Chicago's Criminal Courts Building, overlooking the gallows behind the Cook

  3. While I wouldn't judge the Airport Authority folks guilty without a trial and disposition, the comments of Blake in the article that they've instituted changes no doubt has their counsel shaking his head and saying, this is going to be tough to defend. Surepip, I'm sure the attorneys at the AA's law firm are a bit surprised that this happened as well. Those attorneys knew that that there was little chance that one of the local newspapers - newspapers have traditionally initiated 90+ percent of the open record/open meeting challenges in Georgia and elsewhere - were ever going to challenge

  5. I've experienced variable performance in some browsers ... and while the machine I'm working on has 6gb of ram available (a bit more than the recommended 4gb for win7) ... and I think the failure of some of the buttons on the site may have to do with the memory status of the pc. Of course the easiest way to discover if memory limitations are the root of the issue is to restart the computer and with only one window open, try and see if the links you say don't work, actually do. Since I've experienced it on the desktop that has been elevated to primary use, I'm thinking I may need a me

They told me that back in the eighth grade when I refused to don the robes, put away the jack boots, stopped drawing swastikas in the margins on my text books and campaigned for Republican Wintrhop Rockefeller in 1964. Among my heresys was support of a two-party system in a one-party state. pubby

  9. I know ... I actually do a fair amount of research and it is so, so obvious to me as well. Technically, or you may say strategically, the market for getting and parsing this information is in three major camps and a few smaller ones. The three biggies are Google, Facebook and Microsoft. These three entities have made your business their business. Google and Microsoft (through Bing) do it through the use of the search and parsing the information from their ad-server subsideriaries, facebook by appropriating your content and accessing your personal networks. The trick is that by get

According to a witness, the driver stopped briefly, littered the highway with an empty beer bottle and drove off. And folks in the metro Atlanta area of Georgia should feel superior because? pubby

  12. I understand that Mickey Rooney didn't like the fact that he was in the movie ... It's a mad, mad, mad, mad, mad world ... but the plain fact is he was the last man standing from this 1962 comedic hit. The next little bit also is cited as a tribute of a sorts to his role in the mad, mad, mad, mad world movie. It is hidden behind a spoiler because of language. It does also pay tribute to Mickey's role and you'll understand why it was placed as a spoiler if you view it. Still, when I think of the movies in which his credits appeared over the years, this is the mo
  13. Does having money make you mean? This particular social science researcher thinks he has developed a way to parse out the impacts of money and power on the average human and it seems those with more seem to act as if they're entitled and those with less, are simply on average more generous. Here's the Tedx talk: It is pitched this way: Personally, the biggest problem folks run into when thinking about things like this is that they tend to think in all-or-nothing terms. The reality, if you look at it closely, is based more on tendencies ... that would, if an electoral

  15. Now ask yourself what your wife would think if you helped a friend at work research divorce ... and the ads for divorce attorney's start showing up on your computer? What if you boss is your father-in-law? But it is not just things like searching for certifications that trigger these things. It can be personal posts on facebook intended only for close friends that contributes to the 'ad content' and those ads can appear in the most ridiculous and potentially embarrassing places - say an image gallery where you want to show your kid the pictures from the day's outing but there is a divor
  16. I've also noted that in a lot of topics, just to the left of the start new topic button, is a similar button that says, 'take me to the last unread post.' But the dot or 'star' - the star means you've commented in the post - will take your to the last unread post. The time-stamp on the far right takes you to the last post as well. pubby
  17. You are all missing the point. The teen didn't tell anyone ... it was the pattern of what she looked at and did on the net that was the key, not an expressed action. This means that the teen may have looked at a medical site, may have surfed a couple of other things, maybe family planning, maybe adoption services and the pattern for a teenager doing that, possibly with some purchase behavior, was predictive of the girl being preggo. The tools of big data - these are actually better tools than the NSA has because there is more money in figuring out who is thinking about buying a car o
  18. As far as the numbers ... A cursory review points out that without some analysis, the obvious averages are meaningless when you have several days of 'zero' audience ... the time when there were no trackers on the site and all the numbers are zero. I really haven't looked at them that closely since the changeover because I knew they would be skewed down a lot. One possibility, the server company/provider has had a couple of hiccups in the last week or so as well. It was discussed here: But your report does concern me and I would be interested in other reports. I don't think it
  19. April 7th, 2014 promises to be one of the wettest days of the year and ... also among the windiest. That combination conspired to block GA Business 6 on Merchants Drive just east of the intersection to GA 61 and Dallas Post Office. Dallas maintenance workers were observed weilding chainsaws and other heavy equipment at 10:20 a.m. in their efforts to clear the street which was totally blocked. 22. Here is a Ted Talk that deals with the types of insights that come from the analysis of seemingly stupid bits of information you provide to facebook. Stupid stuff, you say. Yep, The title of this piece is the information that marketers are able to discern because, well, you clicked on a link that said you liked curly fries. Of course the bigger revelation was the series of ads sent to the 15 year old girl from marketers who had figured out the teenager was pregnant from her online activity. There was no admission but the emails started talking to the youth in emails that her father opened. O
  23. I think Sullivan's read is right on this. Never heard of the OKCupid group; sounds as if they're out of OKC (they're not, they are HQ'd in NYC.) Their act of blocking everyone using a particular bit of software (firefox) from their dating site because of that slip, seems not just stupid, but self-defeating. I don't think I'll be gracing their site anytime. Fact is, I think the PTB at that dating website need to move the center of their thought up about 24-30 inches from their groin area because their reaction to this whole thing seems to be intellectually centered below the belt.
  24. No Pubby, it was not the Church's request to invite everyone, it was some of the other citizens that thought they'd like to hear everyone. It was also requested by other citizens to allow you to introduce yourselves so they could video it. That was a last minute request. We like to listen to the other citizens and tried our best to accommodate their wishes. And yes, all candidates should be "prepared to speak" at any event they attend, it's part of running for office. As I said, each handled it well, I was impressed by everyone. The church had nothing to do with the meeting other than
  25. Mojo: If you listened to the video, you'd know that was my impression as well. But no, the anti-growth agenda was not the point of this gathering. It was a meet and greet for the candidates and it was mentioned here noting that the anti-growth group's favored candidates were going to appear. The folks at the church, according to Kristen, wanted to make sure that all candidates were invited and so, a few days after the notice here, the invitations went out to all the candidates. I do sense that some candidates may have been 'more prepared' to speak than others (My invite said
