ECONCOMIC DEVELOPMENT PCED Holds annual meeting at Burnt Hickory Park
gpatt0n replied to gpatt0n's topic in Fastread page
Gone: And I want $20,000 for my 2004 Dakota pickup ... and I'll get it if the zombie apocalypse comes and your running away from them and have a bag full of cash and it seems like the only way to escape the throngs ... but otherwise, fat chance. Indeed, whether you know it or not, one of the reasons that Paulding has not progressed rapidly is because our property tax rates are too low (and ownership of land too concentrated). If taxes are low, folks have the ability to hold on to the land at low cost. If taxes are higher, the cost of letting land sit idle increases dramatically meani -

I don't know, I suppose that is a question for the editors at Time Magazine. A copy was presented by the Daily Kos ... and I'm sure there are other copies floating around on the net you can get by searching for it ... the original was from a FOIA by the ALCU. pubby -
Officer's version of Ferguson shooting revealed

Since the title of this topic is supposed to be the officers version of what happened, one used to the bureaucratic elements of police work would naturally seek to see a copy of the incident report ... that usually brief narrative of what the officer involved in the incident says happened. They are routinely filed and are considered public record. Here is the story of the incident report involved in this shooting from TIME magazine: Having covered cops from the 1970s to present, this is a bit odd. Actually, the report which simply acknowledged there was a homicide, the date, -

I think it ultimate distills down to doing the right thing. I just read a story about Broward County's public defenders office which has hired some retired cops ... these retirees are the 'cops cop' type of guys as public defender investigators. Using and actually creating enhancements to things like Brady lists, this group has had a few revelations such as the new understanding that not all those accused of crimes are guilty. The guy Smith was one of those cops who spent time as an undercover 'hit man' ... and he had a pretty low idea of the folks in general. Here's a passage to this st -

Attendance was good with fifty or more community leaders attending the Annual Meeting of the Paulding County Economic Development held at Burnt Hickory Park this morning. The event lauded the accomplishments of PCED over the past year including the openings of the new Paulding Wellstar Hospital, new Interroll and Ronchi plants and an expansion at Simmons. Former PCED board members were also honored and PCED Chairman Mark Haney discussed the continuing rapid success of the Paulding's Wellstar hospital, which is not only gaining recognition nationally for its design but exceeding benchmarks fiv

I would think that the issue wasn't considered a problem because the relationship was not abused. I think if it were abused, it would have been brought out sooner (like before this year) because Dwayne Cochran has been doing in the bail bonds for some time and apparently his wife had been Judge Osborne's secretary for some time as well. On its face, it was, as they say, improper. That said, I think what drove the ethics investigation and resignation is someone who wanted that job and likely has the support of the Governor for their ambition. They knew of the circumstance and -

I think most cops think few 'civilians' are 'innocent' ... is what I think. Indeed, ask yourself how many 21 year old's would be mortified for you to call them innocent and pure as the driven snow? Then ask how many of them haven't smoked a dubie, drank and underage beer or shoplifted a magazine, driven recklessly? Maybe 20 percent could assert pure innocence ... and most cops know this. (considering the state of the law and the oddities of it, some have opined that on average, the 'good guy' commits three felonies every day and doesn't even know it.) (WSJ article on book making that c -
At the same time, we had scientists saying that the Surgeon General was wrong, smoking didn't cause cancer and it was an oppressive government that made ... yes forced ... the fine folks at Phillip Morris to put those obnoxious warnings on smokes and took away our Marlboro man from TV. (He was still with us though, in advertising in Magazines and billboards.) Yes it was a more innocent time. pubby

And I would suspect in both these cases that the officers involved in the shootings were put on paid leave for three or four weeks and cleared of all concerns meaning they got a paid vaca for shooting an unarmed person. I can't help but wonder how many more bodies will pile up when the officers figure out that a three-week paid vaca is the 'punishment' for in essence executing unarmed people who have not, presumably, been convicted of a crime and therefore should have the presumption of innocence. That we don't protest every time one of these 'incidents' leaves an unarmed person dead -
Holder says he understands mistrust of police

I don't suspect AG Holder was AG at the time he was stopped. I do suspect that he not only knew that he wasn't carrying contraband and he also suspected that the LEO would hold him and call for a dog to sniff around and or testilie that he had probable cause to a judge for a warrant and while the only outcome would be that he was delayed from a meeting that he didn't want to be late. You've seen the reporters in Ferguson (and on youtube) etc. refuse to expose film or delete image files of police in what is an universally accepted exercise of one's constitutional rights. Frankly, I've exp -
While we don't expect criminals and other deviants to kill others we especially don't expect them to be wearing a policeman's uniform ... and we're even more upset when they don camo, body armor and look like an army attacking citizens. Further we KNOW that when criminals do kill others they are doing it for reasons that don't include doing it 'for us' and further, we aren't paying them a salary to do it. So you tell me Zorro, why do you get up set when the government spends money for agents to figure out how much property we have so they can tax us or be alleged to ask us to registe

stradial: Next thing you're going to say is being big and black makes you a target because you never know what those crazy black teens are going to do. Yep, according to the narrative you want me to believe there are some Big Black Teens so mean that they intentionally walk down the middle of the streets 'cause they want to confront cops, whack-em in the face with their big fists so they can bite out a notch on the wooden tip of the cigarillo they stole. You know its like Billy the Kid and Paul Bunyan rolled into one with a covering of black to make sure everyone knows they're bad. -
Actually what they are doing is smart marketing of their services. This is smart because they've probably determined that those in the LGBT community are under-represented in their clientele and they may have even done research that shows that those people are uncomfortable in settings where they mix with straights. Getting all out of shape about this is about like complaining that High School Football is for boys not girls or some other segregation ... or are you suggesting that all t he LGBT ought to go back into the closet and disappear. pubby

That is a complete distortion. What is being said is don't assume that every cop shooting of an unarmed person is something to be celebrated and lauded as another bad guy off the streets. The body count of cops shooting and killing unarmed people is getting too high and we think we need to look critically at the circumstances because more, in this case is not better. Notably, because the black bodies in the pile represent the majority, they kind of feel like they're targeted as well. Frankly, I don't blame them. I think the reasonable take away from the status quo is that with -
I wish folks would understand the difference between facts and assertions. All of those are assertions. At this point we don't know if they are facts. For instance the breaking of the eye socket could be the result of the door coming back on the officer when he swung it out possibly in a gesture to injure the kid while he was walking in the middle of the road - i.e. an act of aggression that backfired on the guy. My assertion is no more or less believable than yours and only testimony from all the witnesses would be able to give us guidance of which is more true as both may contain

I will note his early resignation, which means that Governor Deal will be able to appoint his successor BEFORE THE ELECTION, also ended a second ethics investigation. The nature of the second ethics investigation is the mystery but the obvious thing is that had Judge Osborne stayed until December 31, there was some possibility that a Governor Carter could have been influencing the appointment of the next judge. I will only note that if a governor has the power to stop an ethics investigation into his own office, by definition that same governor would have the ability to initiate an ethic -

cptlo: You really don't get it; the society is racist. Most societies have vestiges of racism cooked into their collective culture. Right now one of our most racist cultural institutions is the criminal justice system that is based in part on the fear that folks have and have had of black men over the centuries. When you are unwilling to look and observe how concepts of race and economic status impact the acts of individuals and how they utterly condemn not just the criminal but literally anyone to a life of misery in the claws of the system. For instance, how many of those now -
