  1. I think that was the general area... back then it was considered "way out there" but of course now that area is just part of the metro like most after all the growth in the area. My guess would be there's still a good market for used/refurbished systems by people who are looking for a 2nd household computer, or small businesses, too.
  2. I've been there a good number of times. They seemed to have slipped a good bit over the last few years in terms of "deals", though. Their prices aren't any better than anyone else it seems anymore at least on desktops, but they're still a good place to go for parts, accessories, etc. imo.
  3. Hmmmm... name sounds familiar, but they weren't on Roswell Road long ago. This could maybe still be them - just scaled back (no more large warehouse, etc). I may check into this one.
  4. Years ago, and I'm talking a good 15-20 years ago, I remember going to a place in an office park area somewhere in Alpharetta that was huge, and they sold used and refurbished computer systems to the public, as well as parts, etc. I think they even built "new" systems for people based on the specs you wanted too. I got one of my first "real" computers there. It was an AST all-in-one with a built-in 12" monitor and floppy drive (yes, even before the first iMacs). Had a 386 processor, and a whopping 4 MEGS of RAM (it cost $112 to get 4 additional MEGS of RAM!!!!!). Ahhhhhh the old days.
  5. Translation: "But Moooooooooooooom.... Billy did it... so I'm doin' it too!"
  6. Unfortunately none of the ideas above worked. The stuff did upload from the old phone as it says he has 4.4 gigs of available space as opposed to 5 gigs that it initially says you have - so that much was done. But he said he turned the phone off and back on before bed each of the last couple of nights, and nope, no pics downloaded into the 4s (the iCloud is turned on, on that phone). Thanks for the ideas though. He said his neighbor's kid is a whiz at iTunes, so he's going to pay the kid a few dollars to come over and do it the "old fashioned" way via iTunes, tonight. Oh, and Papi..
  7. I just sent him a text to tell him to do that. I'll report what happens later tomorrow. Thanks.
  8. Need help from the iPhone experts in here as I'm not an iPhone person: I know someone who's had an iPhone 4. He just bought an iPhone 4s from a friend of his. He went to Verizon and had his service switched over to the "new" 4s today and it works fine. He's not a techy person and asked me to help him re-install a small handful of apps he uses, and I did that. AFTER that, he tells me he has about 100 photos on his phone he wants to swap over. His computer is down and I don't want to fool with putting iTunes on mine, so I activated the "iCloud" feature on his OLD phone, and uploade
  9. I didn't see the carrier the OP used. Yeah, while each phone can have a better (or worse) speaker and antennae, the carrier's towers have a lot to do with reception. In my neighborhood, Verizon is a lot better for voice, but 3G service stinks, while AT&T's voice stinks but their 3G service is better. Duh. 4G seems to work fine for both, though... 4G uses a different wavelength that goes through walls better than 3G, so if you have slow/bad data before, with 4G it should in theory be a stronger signal. I'm still sticking with the warnings on the screen issues on the S3 though - rea
  10. The Galaxy S III has a beautiful screen, is fast/powerful and has a good camera, but if you go to Google and type in variations of "Samsung Galaxy S III cracked screens", you'll find that this model has a pretty big issue with screens that crack very easy. I was interested in this phone myself, which is why I did the research. The screen is edge-to-edge and it's a fairly plasticy body, too. I read a fairly large number of screen complaints one night from more than one site, and several of the people said they even had cases/bumpers and screen protector sheets on their phones, yet the screens
  11. Sorry to dredge it up again, but here's what confuses me. To my knowledge (unless I'm wrong), once you are on the Sex Registry List, you're on it for the rest of your life, right? I didn't think it was like "probation", where after a period of time you get removed - once you're there, you're there, unless it's shown that you were innocent later and the verdict gets overturned, right? So that's why the whole bit about plea deals confuses me, especially if there's a change the person could be innocent. I can't figure out how allowing yourself to be put on that registry is any kind of a ba
  12. Thanks for the clarifications. Even a charge of child cruelty is bad enough, but to think that this person may actually be guilty of sexually molesting a child but it's just showing up as that "lesser" charge, and they only spent under a year for doing it, is pretty sad. I'll relay the info to her about it.
  13. That's really sad you can plead something like a sex crime down, then. I figured of all types of crimes those would be ones that were "non-negotiable". This person spent less than a year in jail, too. But now I guess you can negotiate jail time depending on what it was, too. Please tell me if an actual molestation was involved, that people do still spend more time than that in jail.
  14. This might sound dumb but I've never done it for anyone before, and my cousin is BARELY internet savy herself. Plus I'm curious enough about this now that I just want to know more on my own, too: Is there a web site you can go to then, that searches these public records where you can get the more detailed information on a case like this? Or is this still done the old fashioned way where you have to go to a court house or something to do it?
  15. I wouldn't think they would allow someone who's actually guilty of any of the molestation charges to plead down to a lesser charge, though. I mean, if you were guilty of molestation I'd think that's what they'd put on the pages. Cruelty to children is awfully vague, and still, to be on that page for something that vague raises lots of ????
  16. A cousin of mine lives in metro Atlanta and she called and said she found that someone she actually knows is on the sex offender registry here in metro Atlanta. The official Georgia one, but she also found copies of the person's record on other places like the mugshot site, etc. This person was convicted last year and less than a year later had to register and was "released" so they spent a little less than a year in jail for whatever it was they did. Confusing part: It lists their crime simply as "CRUELTY TO CHILDREN - 1ST DEGREE", and that's it. I tried to help her look this up
  17. I know there are several West Cobb Folks on here, so here's some info on a dog that someone found in my neighborhood Sunday: A male dog was found in the neighborhood behind the Publix shopping center off of New Macland Road in Powder Springs on Sunday 10/22/12. This would be in the Dogwood Drive/Red Oak Drive/Pine Valley Drive neighborhood. Dog seems to be a Shepherd/Mix, maybe about 35-40lbs max?. It seemed to get along extremely well with adult people great, not tested on kids, but did not do extremely well around other dogs. Cobb County Animal Control picked the dog up Sunday aft
  18. I've been reading up on these things, and while I knew Rats were smart, I wasn't aware of just how smart they are. Social groups, family groups, can learn more tricks if trained than some dogs (and um, all cats), etc. No wonder they can avoid so many traps - they're smarter than a lot of people! I think I ID'd the ones we had as "Roof Rats" because they were slightly blackish in color and had tails that were longer than their bodies. Plus while they were Rat sized, they were not HUGE like Norway (or Sewer) Rats. I said earlier that I had tossed some poison under the house (yeah, again,
  19. Someone came over today and fixed the area. Basic story - the floor under the dishwasher had rotted out leaving a large gaping hole under it directly down 18" through the crawlspace. The Rats were coming up there, under the dishwasher, and then coming through a gap that surrounded a water line that goes to the fridge and then coming into the house via that route. There was no evidence of poop behind any of the appliances, so they were not living in the house - just snooping around. There wasn't a lot of time to make modifications as these were coworkers who were on a tight time table
  20. I could deal with a possum MUCH more than a Rat. Just saying.
  21. Notes to reply: In the past used glue traps for mice and while they're convenient, finding something that's still alive stuck to one is kinda gross. And to be honest, I put a Rat sized glue trap next to the jaw trap "just in case" and I saw Rat feet marks across it last night. One of them literally ran across the sticky part and didn't get stuck (??). The T-Rex traps. The traps I had been using are the Tomcat ones from Lowes - same design, basically. They've worked for the most part except that as I said, 2 out of 3 of the Rats were not fully killed. Had to restock and at Home Depot
  22. I should point out that this isn't a trash/neighbor issue to my knowledge. All neighbors are living in their homes, all lawns are cut, no trash being left out, etc. Not "dirty" in my house as well, and I have bread and a closed box of crackers on the countertop and they've not been touched - and again, no Rat droppings anywhere visible in the house or behind furniture (I've looked). I've heard that this time of year, especially when it's dry, they explore around looking for water though, and/or places to have babies (ugh).
  23. Long story short(er) - A few night ago I was in the kitchen and saw a Rat (!) across the room, which ran my direction and ducked in-between the dishwasher and fridge where I suspect there must be a hole that goes to the crawl space. Last year some "scratching" was heard back there, but after tossing some repellent behind the fridge the noises went away and there did not seem to be a successful invasion. Seeing this thing proved that at some point obviously, something broke in and has been "exploring" around. There are no droppings anywhere and nothing on the kitchen countertop (bread, etc)
  24. Microcenter used to be really good with cameras, but they've gone downhill a good bit over the last couple of years. Their prices aren't that great, but more importantly, I bought a camera there once and when I got home found a memory card in it with personal photos on it. Long story short - they took a return and sold it as a new camera. Found out later a similar thing happened to someone I was talking to about that store, too - so I'm kinda turned off about them regarding cameras. Still a good place to go for computer memory and parts, etc., but no more camera buying from them for me.
  25. A lot of it boils down to service. Most stores don't have good service in terms of poorly trained people, and/or poor customer policies. At *some* of the Wolf stores, the employees were very knowledgeable and experienced, and you could handle the cameras and it was a good selling point for some. However, their "sales" were poor, and their return policy was really bad, (averaged about 10 days I think) and they charged an enormous amount for extended warranties (not recommended for many items, but maybe so on high dollar digital cameras like DSLRs). If you tried to get them to price match
