  1. I knew this would bring you out of the woodwork, Freebird. Hubby says he agrees with you, let it be 10 below- so cold the receivers can't move, but Peyton could still throw for 600 yds against tonight's pitiful defense.

  2. OMG! Did y'all see that game! What a heart-stopper! Just when we thought our boys were going to break our hearts, they pulled it off: 17-20 over the Jets in overtime. If the Jets had a decent field goal kicker it would have been a whole different story. Roethlisberger was pretty lackadasical at best and Bettis actually fumbled. I could not believe it. Thanks to a Georgia boy by the name of Hines Ward, among others on the offensive line, the Steelers won a big one. We cannot wait for next week- pray it will be the Patriots, because Peyton Manning and the Colts will eat Pittsburgh's defense alive. :o

*Hubby would have posted this, but he is still trying to get his heart rate back to normal.

  3. I couldn't agree more. I work for one of those local merchants, so without local patronage, I'd be out of a job. Sure, I could go to work at Haverty's or Rooms To Go, but it wouldn't be here, and it wouldn't be nearly as meaningful to me. Working for a hometown business and having the owner there on-site lends a level of devotion and dedication you will never find in a big corporation. My boss contributes to many local organizations: churches, high schools, the Chamber of Commerce, Helping Hands, etc. and he is more than happy to do so. :D

  4. The "building" is part of the Hickory Hut's charm, I think. Plus, they have been there so long, everyone in Dallas would be lost if they moved it. Kind of like the Big Chicken in Marietta, you know. :D

  5. Sadly, Brother-In-Laws went the way of all three of the other restaurants that have made an attempt in that site in the past couple of years. I was sorry to see it happen, too. Their wings were great. That is a terrible location. It is off the beaten path, and there just isn't enough traffic out that way- yet. I think the Dollar General and the other shops coming in with it will change that. There is also the problem of having to compete with the institution known as, The Hickory Hut. That's hard to do out on West Memorial. Rumor also was that the rent on that building was exorbidant. :(

  6. Thanks for the info, DieHard. I was actually wondering about particular brands of tires and whether a 100,000 mile is really better than a 50,000 mile. My hubby works for Northern Tool, so we will probably go with a Husqvarna when we get a mower (can't pass up his discount, you know). We had been wondering about the Dells, too. The prices just seem too good to pass up. :D

  7. I don't think I can make this one, y'all. I am training a new employee at work and I wouldn't feel right leaving her for very long yet. MLK Day is traditionally a busy day for furniture sales. :(

PS: Save me a tote bag. ;)

  8. PDQ RULED.

Among the things I enjoyed as a kid:

Quisp (I know... it came out for a while and is gone again... the bagged Quaker "Sweet Crunch" is the same product... just not called "Quisp")

Crazy Cow cerial (Chocolate and strawberry... was like flavored, sweet Kix puffs that changed milk into chocolate or strawberry milk)

Waffle O's - featured a character called Waffle O Bill.  There was a similar maple syrup-flavored waffle cerial a few years back.  Not the same, but close.

Chef Boyardee's Roller Coasters - was in a blue can, not their usual red and white can.  Looked like their Lasagna, but was milder and had meatballs.

Marathon bars - already mentioned here... braided chocolate-covered caramel

Go! bars - these were great.  They were a lot like a Whatchamacallit (the original, without the caramel), but they were fortified with vitamins.  They were supposed to be a "nutritious" candy bar.

"New" Coke - ok... I love the original Coke.  But, "New" Coke was oh, so good, too!

Carnation Breakfast Bars - a granular chocolate-covered breakfast bar.  I've tried similar ones today... they don't have the same flavor.

Man, VIMH, you really know your junk food nostalgia! How about "Instant Breakfast?" French Vanilla...I have seen that in the store...think I'll get some of that, too.

  9. Just kidding ladies. You know I am a joker. Let me get serious for a moment.

I think flowers are the language of love, and has been ever sense the beginning of man and woman. Early man had nothing but flowers to show his love for his dearist. Today they don't cost much, either, especially in season, and often they're for sale on the street corners. Yet, considering the rarity with which the average husband takes home a bunch of daffodils, you might suppose them to be as expensive as orchids and as hard to come by as the edelweiss which flowrers on the cloud-swept cliffs of the Swiss Alps.

Why wait until your wife goes to the hospital to give her a few flowers? Why not bring her a few roses tomarrow night? You like to experiment. Try it. See what happens.

I don't know if it will get her back in line or not, but I think you will see love reflected in her eyes.

  10. Remember fizzies? You were to put them in water and make a flavored drink. I remember putting them in my mouth and loved the way they fizzed...

This also reminds me of that candy called: "Zotz." It was flavored hard candy but when you bit into it, there was a center of something like Alka-Seltzer. It fizzed and foamed in your mouth. Kids would try to pretend they had rabies with it.

  11. Cool! I am headed to Wal-Mart right now to look for Jiffy Pop. I just hope my kids are more impressed with it than Armymom's!

Retired teacher: My mother's purse was always littered with half sticks of gum that she doled out at church!

PDQ was good stuff, too. :D
