  1. My problem with the Common Core and the current state of education is three fold. 1) The common core suggest that every student is the same and should learn the same. I disagree, every student is different, they come from different ethnic backgrounds, they come from different social-economic backgrounds, and they come from different cultural backgrounds. Education is not and should not be a one size fits all approach, that is what we used to call communist thinking. Besides as a teacher, I don't want to think of every child in my classroom as the same. I like the distinctive personaliti
  2. Our children's program director at church actually purchased new Bible's for every child. They bought the Hands on Bible by Tyndale. Both of my girls love it, because it applies the Bible to daily life. It's easy to read and it has different activities for the kids to do. There is also an online website for parents to visit that's pretty useful. http://tyndale.com/Hands-On-Bible-NLT/9781414337685
  3. My brother's a truck driver and a single dad so he's been looking for a local route. Do you know anything about the driver positions at your company?
  4. I just debated this issue for myself this week. I had been a long time customer of AT&T, but I decided to switch to Verizon. If you are interested in a data plan for the phone, keep in mind Verizon has an unlimited plan and AT&T does not. I bought a new smartphone with AT&T last Thursday and took the 2GB data plan w/ it. Customer service at AT&T assured me that there was no way I would use more than that when it came to the data plan. Huh, after 3 days I had already exceeded my limit and they tack on a $10.00 charge for every G you go over. Now I am not that tech savvy, s
  5. How does Paul get his teeth so white??? I swear they would glow in the dark.
  6. Who dressed everybody tonight? The outfits are awful!
  7. Prayers sent out to your friend and to her family. I can't imagine what your friend and her family are dealing with right now. There is a wonderful book called Life Without Limits that is really inspiring that your friend might find helpful. Here is the story behind the book.
  8. I wanted to thank all of you for your help and prayers. I filed the report and I must say I feel relieved. I know I will have the wrath of her and her husband, but I can live with that. Please continue to pray that they receive the help they need.
  9. Just wanted to let you know my gut feeling was right, she went back to this sorry POS. She just sent me a long email that she is back with him, but only after she spoke with his doctor. His doctor said it was his "mania" that caused him to act this way and that with the new meds he will be fine. Blah Blah Blah!!!! I have heard this crap for the last 15 years from her. I hope the authorities do the right thing this time! What really pisses me off is that her dad, brother, and sister-in-law think they will be better off now that he is on his meds. According to her they all think they would
  10. SushiBoofay the situation you describe fits my friend to a tee. She has been cut off from everyone. She didn't speak to her mom for several years because he convinced her that her mom was out to destroy their relationship. Her mom just passed away two months ago. Her husband wanted her to cut off contact with me after her first attempt to leave him. He and I had a heated conversation on the phone and she went running back to him. He told me she would always choose him over our friendship. It was true, she didn't contact me for a very long time. He forced them to move all the time so
  11. NYGal that's exactly what I was thinking. I thought perhaps the school would be able to insure they were investigated. I just hope they also note it in their student file so that it goes where ever they do if they run again.
  12. I don't understand why women stay in these situations either. I can't figure out how anyone can be so weak as to allow another person to abuse them or their children. Treasure thanks for the phone numbers but she is in Colorado. I think the distance is what makes this really difficult because I'm not there to document the bruises. The last time I reported them I was told that unless I had photos or concrete proof there was nothing they could do but file a report. I even had an email from her saying her husband had punched the kid in the face. A whole lot of good that did. They do wha
  13. I have all of the emails and facebook conversations saved. I just mainly want to know where would be best to report the abuse. DFCS was of very little help last time I reported, but they lived in a different city then. Thanks for the prayers these two kids need it
  14. I really need some advice on what to do about a friend who has been involved in a domestic violence situation for several years now. My friend married her husband in 1994 and the relationship has been rocky for years now. They have two small children ages 5 and 7 and live out of state. The husband is bi-polar and takes his medication when he feels like it, which makes him very unpredictable. 1 1/2 years ago my friend contacted me and said she needed to leave because her husband hit their son in the nose and caused it to bleed. He told her the child fell and he didn't hurt him, but th
  15. It is the hardest thing you'll ever go through and you never get over it. I knew there was nothing I could do so I handed everything over to God. There are some really great websites that gave me an outlet for my grief too. Try babycenter.com and fertilityfriends. com, they both have really great chat rooms for moms who are dealing with the same thing. I found that talking about my loss with others mom's who were going through the same thing was really helpful. It was actually easier to talk about it with women I didn't know rather than family members and friends. Often times it's a touc
  16. I've been to his bakery in NJ, the cakes and pastries are beautiful, but they aren't near as good as they look. He's all about presentation rather than taste. A sheet cake like you get at Wal-Mart was $100.00 at his bakery. The family was extremely nice and friendly to everyone in the bakery, it would be a nice place to socialize. They seemed really down to earth even with all of their recent fame.
  17. I know what you mean about BOA...we had the same problem with them this week. My husband pays all of our bills online with BOA, but lately we've been having issues with the way the money is coming out of the account. Several times BOA has taken out the funds and then placed them back into our acc't without paying the bills. My husband had to reschedule several payments and after doing so, BOA took out those funds to pay bills as well as the previous funds that were orignially supposed to be taken out. We ended up with duplicated payments which bounced our acc't.....it cost us $196.00 in f
  18. If you don't mind a drive, Lexington, North Carolina has their BBQ festival. It's a lot of fun with tons of stuff to do. There are lots of crafts, carnival rides and great food.
  19. While your arguments about the expense of school supplies is valid, I hope you all take into account how much teachers spend. We do not receive money for classroom supplies, any purchases we make come directly from our pockets. We don't have 1 or 2 kids to buy for, but rather 100+ kids. As for textbooks, the schools don't purchase enough for each student to have due to budget restraits, thus teachers must be more creative with their assignments. This leads us to paper shortages, which prevent us from making copies or supplying students with classroom resources. As for requests such as dig
  20. Is anyone else having issues with their facebook account? I tried logging in and it keeps telling me it's an invalid email acc't or I need to clean out my cookies. Is there something going on with facebok or is this legit?
  21. I am so sorry for your loss. Although I don't know you personally, reading your story over the last year has been an inspiration to so many people. Your strength, compassion and love for Ashton was evident in all of your postings. I know your family must be so heartbroken. I pray that God will lift you up and that you will find comfort in knowing that Ashton is in God's loving arms. God Bless your family! The Broken Chain We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly. In death we do the same. It broke our hearts to
  22. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family during this very difficult time. Trey was such a wonderful young man with a heart of gold. I had the pleasure of teaching him his sophmore year at PCHS. He made my first year so memorable with his quick wit and charming smile. I don't think I ever saw Trey without a smile. Trey will certainly be missed.
