  1. In Granny's Footsteps
There are twelve of the finest ladies of P.com testing products for IGF for the next month. I am really excited about both of these products!

This blog is where we can chat about the products and they can share any of their insights as they go through the process of trying out the products.

    FACIAL ELIXIR:

This wonderful facial oil is blended by me and contains Olive Squalane, Jojoba infused in Calendula, Meadowfoam Oil, Avocado Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Macadamia Oil. This Elixir also features the essential oils of Chamomile, Rose Absolute, Geranium, and Palmarosa, with a touch of vitamin E (natural preservative and antioxidant).

The perfect tester for the Facial Elixir has normal to dry, mature skin, as these oils would be too heavy for oily skin.

    UNDER EYE CREAM:

This cream is made with all-natural yogurt, and nourishing oils of Meadowfoam, Red Raspberry, and Absyssian. The essential oils of Chamomile, Lavender, and Geranium were added in just the right amount. This cream also features a special active ingredient called Eyeliss™. I’m real excited about having a product that features this ingredient as it has been clinically studied and analyzed.

The perfect tester for this is a lady who has used other under eye cream products, especially ones designed for puffiness, or fine lines. She would have normal to dry, mature skin as well.

Say a prayer.... light a candle.... do a silly dance.... whatever you do spiritually speaking, remember Gareth and all of us on Thursday.

We're heading back to the Children's Hospital in Jax. on Thursday. He's going to have an endoscopy and a colonoscopy w/ biopsy. We're hopeful that this will be the final puzzle piece with this health. It'll either show nothing of significance which will indicate the IBS, or maybe it'll show something else, or irritation, etc. I'm just ready to know 100% what is going on with him, and to try to do whatever we can medicine wise, therapy wise, natural supplement wise, to get him better. A 12 year old child shouldn't have to continue to live like this. It's been NO FUN since he turned 12.

I appreciate it guys. This has been the single hardest time as a parent that I've had. I appreciate my parents even more now knowing that they've been through his sort of craziness not once, but four times!!!

    My heart to you all!

    Blessings,

    ~ Becca

    Greetings from S. Georgia!

Beginning this coming week, I'll be in full production mode for the holidays. On top of the scents I normally carry, I'll be adding these new ones to the mix:

~ Citrus Bliss: The base of this soap is Yuzu, which is a Japanese Grapefruit, and it has a very strong and bright fragrance. Unlike regular grapefruit, Yuzu is a hybrid of grapefruit and mandarin, so it's got additional perfume notes. But not just mandarin or tangerine, it's got a grapefruit blossom top note. This soap will feature cranberry seeds too! Lovely!

~ Twisted Clean: This fragrance is awesome, different, and yes, a little "twisted"! Top notes of grapefruit and lime, with middle notes of fresh cucumber, guava, and passionfruit, and base notes of wasabi, cilantro, and fern. The wasabi gives you a kick in there that makes this such a different aroma. It's described as a very fresh and clean green scent with a touch of freshly picked herbs topped a slight citrus twist.

~ Persephone (Pomegranate): Something I always looked forward to being "in season" in the grocery store growing up were pomegranates. I loved them! I can recall popping those gem-like seeds in my mouth... juicy.... sweet... tart. The pomegranate is also an ancient fruit with a rich history in myth, symbol, art, medicine and religion. This soap will have that sweet tart aroma, while still be luxurious and wonderful for your skin.

~ Nanny's Chai: This will be a goat's milk soap fragranced with the spicy aroma of Chai Tea. This is a very complex scent which begins with top notes of spicy cinnamon bark and nutmeg; followed with a body of fresh green tea; finished off with the aroma of creamy milk.

~ Island Coconut: This is a sweet and fruity tropical coconut.... will remind you of those days on the beach, suntan lotion on, radio playing.... cold drink nearby. Always a classic scent! This soap will also not only feature coconut oil, and coconut butter, but will also contain coconut milk!

~ Granny's Pine Tar: I will be making it soon with no other additives than the pure Pine Tar. No essential oils, to help those with extra sensitive skin! <Unsure at this time whether or not I'll make it w/ the EOs in it as well.>

~ I'm also adding two new lip-smacking lip balm flavors: Pina Colada, and Juicy Pineapple.

LOTIONS/BALMS[/b][/u] -- I'm going to have an under eye cream (with eye pillows that can be used cold or hot) and a facial serum, a new Goat's Milk Lotion, and will be featuring my Dry Patch Skin Balm in convenient tubes for easy application!

BATH-SALTS: I continue to make bath-salts to order, your choice of fragrance or added botanicals -- either non bubbling and bubbling. They feature both Dead Sea Salts, as well as Mediterranean Spa Salts. This is a combination that your body will thank you for! I have GORGEOUS frosted glass jars you can purchase your salts in if you choose, complete with a wooden scoop. You have the option of receiving the bath-salts in a bag as well. Will have prices worked up shortly for the website.

So, stay tuned! Lots of fun stuff bubbling my way. Don't forget that I ship anywhere, priority boxes.

IF YOU WISH TO PLACE AN ORDER FOR A GIFT BASKET, please do so before Nov. 1. I will work with you one on one to determine what products you'd like in the baskets, that will work for your budget.
  4. In Granny's Footsteps
Nope, we're not in the new house yet, nor our studio.... BUT I do have the store back open.

I've got a few more pics to get uploaded and descriptions added, but it is "open".

I'm sure inventory will fluctuate some as we're working on a "skeleton studio" versus our mondo one when it's built. Just have patience... the new studio IS coming.... and we promise to be bigger, and better than ever!

Thanks again for everyone's continued support back in Paulding County. Miss you guys!
  5. In Granny's Footsteps
I thought I'd take a minute and post that our move is complete! Well, at least we've moved to Waycross, and settled in somewhat. It's a start. The next phase will be the building of our new home, and my new soap studio!

Hopefully by the end of summer, we'll have our new "Green-Home" [earth friendly, passive solar, energy efficient] completed, along with IGF's new "green" studio. I can't tell you how excited I am about this and getting my business back up and running down here. I've already got so many repeat customers ringing me up, several stores wanting products, and two major festivals asking for me to vend there, that I'm blown away! I truly feel blessed.

Thanks to all my friends and loyal customers on P.com. You all have collectively helped to make this move happen as well. And just remember that I'm an email click away from shipping you soaps and sundries! Plus, P.com has been such a part of my life for the several years now, that I'll continue to support it and the community as I can. That's right, P.com has fans in S. GA!

    Here's where we're building:

    IGF has plans for 2008!:

~ New studio! It will be an earth friendly space dedicated to IGF's growth, and new horizons! Located on acrage in the country of S. GA., surrounded by old growth pines, oaks, and pecan trees! Featuring an old wishing well on the property as well. Looking forward to expanding my knowledge of local plants and herbs, continuing to wildcraft and collecting them, finding applications for them in body-products and more!

~ I'm working on handmade liquid soap [NOT bought, pre-made and then scented, but literally from scratch, my recipe!]--- great for hands and body! Will be sold more than likely in a pump bottle, as well as a shower bottle too.

~ And several other products, and new scents already in the works! I'll post more about them in the near future!
  6. In Granny's Footsteps
Well, it's been over a month since I soaped anything. I think I was beginning to go through withdrawals!

Now that I've fully recovered from surgery, I thought today would be a perfect day to soap.

SOOOoo, today, in the soap pot we had:

~ A test batch of my new "Save Face" soap, designed for people with skin that tends to be slightly oily, or has break-outs. This soap features cosmetic grade French Pink Clay, collodial oatmeal, honey, and the essential oils of Tea-Tree, Lavender, Peppermint, and Eucalyptus. :::: fingers crossed on this one :::: If this batch passes the test, then I'll be offering this soap for sale very soon.

    ~ A batch of Doggie-Soap!

~ A batch of Mayan Gold.

It felt good to make soap! I hope to make more tomorrow, and the next and the next....
  7. In Granny's Footsteps
We enjoyed our short break, a mini-vacation if you will, down to S. GA. It was great to spend some time with family on "home turf".

I'll be having surgery this coming Monday, so I'll have IGF "closed" for the week.

Thanks for all the well wishes and support.
  8. In Granny's Footsteps
I wanted to say a big THANK YOU
to all the IGF Customers who have shared their personal comments
about our products for our website. (Keep them coming!)
I really appreciate your continued support, and encouragement.
    You are simply the best!

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

    Shhh! IGF's got a secret!

My soaps are going to be featured very
soon as part of the "Cabin Life"
    Living History Program at the
    historic Pickett's Mill State Park!

I'm so very excited to be asked
    to have my soaps featured
    as part of this hands-on
    educational program.

A brief description about this program:
"The Cabin Life program takes place
in an 1850's cabin located off
the White Trail (loop). The program is
    oriented towards the lifestyles of
the civilians who once lived during the
1850's on what is now Pickett's Mill
Battlefield State Historic Site. The program
    portrays the cooking, sewing, gardening,
and cleaning styles of the 1850's. Candle
    making, livestock raising, and other
aspects of the 1850's lifestyle are also portrayed."

    My Granny would be proud.

  9. In Granny's Footsteps
    Hello Everyone!

IGF's soap barn (aka my soap studio) is a hopping place this afternoon.

I cut and put on the drying rack and new batch of Bamboo Verbena,
    and a new scent Dreamcatcher!

Cooking in the pot right now is a new batch of Granny's Pine Tar Soap.

Tomorrow will find me making lotion and bath-salts
for the Family Fun Day this coming Sunday, July 22.

The next currently scheduled craft show will be Sept. 29, 2007
at the Second Annual Olde Towne Hiram day, in Hiram.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

  10. In Granny's Footsteps
Ok, I have four batches in the mold, that I should pop out of there tonight, cut, and get on the drying racks -- WOO HOO!! And they smell wonderful, if I say so myself.
~ Green Clover and Aloe: A terrific unisex scent, Green Clover & Aloe is a fresh, green fragrance that reminds me of wild summer herbs growing in a field. This fragrance is much more complex than it's name sounds. A floral fruity combination of fresh citrus and jasmine petals on a woodsy, sweet musk background.
~ Hawaiian Ginger: You will love this refreshing tropical array containing top notes of tangy pineapple, freshly-sliced summer melons, and crisp apple slices. Middle notes include iris, rose, jasmine, and cyclamen. Base notes of vanilla and musk make this fragrance a perfect blend.

~ Midnight Margaritas: Yes, yes, all you Practical Magic fans -- that kind of Margarita! smile.gif This soap will remind you of all those fun times you've had, at the beach or simply with friends. This soap which will be capped with sea-salt is filled with the aroma of fresh lime with hints of lemon rinds and fresh greenery. This fragrance oil has high levels of essential oil of lime for a true-to-name aroma. ARRRIBAH!
~ Monkey Farts: The name alone evokes a smile and a giggle! This is a favorite scent of many children -- but adults alike are drawn in by it's fruity aroma. This unique fragrance begins with top notes of fresh bananas and juicy grapefruit, middle notes of kiwi, juicy bubblegum, and strawberries; and a hint of vanilla as a base note.

  12. In Granny's Footsteps
I just received another testimonial about my Granny's Pine Tar Soap, and I couldn't be more pleased. It really means a lot to me when people benefit from my products.

I thought I'd share it here as well as on my website:

"I developed rosacea after I had shingles this past year and it totally changed my complexion. The shingles were on the left side of my face and this area was the most affected by the rosacea. My dermatologist gave me a couple medicines and they helped a little bit but I decided to try your Pine Tar Soap and it was the best thing I ever did! It cleared it up almost instantly.

I can honestly say that I can go without makeup as long as I wash with that soap. Something about it gives my skin the right amount of moisture and brings out the "good" color in my face. I don't even need to use the expensive topical medicine anymore! I even find myself washing my face more because it makes my skin feel so much better.

My daughter was having a lot of problems with her acne and I let her use the Pine Tar Soap and it has helped her so much as well. So much so that she stole my other bar! Thank you for giving my skin back and more!"
    ~ Christy Balcombe. Douglasville, GA

I'll be in production next week of certain scents (Granny's Pine Tar included!), and placing an order otherwise for supplies.

Hopefully we'll be building our house soon! Hoping that the place in Hiram will sell, so we can get started. With the market a little slower than we like, it is just taking time. Put the good mojo towards the sell of the home, and if you know anyone that wants a sweet-sweet place in the heart of Hiram, boy, do I know the property for you!

Hope you're enjoying your summer, having fun with the family, and remembering to give thanks for all your blessings!

    My Heart,

    Becca
  13. In Granny's Footsteps
Well, I'm in rush mode trying to get packaging and labelling done. Hope to update the website's inventory very soon. I have sugar scrubs to add, Granny's Pine Tar Soap, and Spa Salt Bars. A few other new scents will be added as well!

    Granny's Pine Tar Soap:

Some of the ol'timers out there may have heard of Pine Tar Soap..... it was a favorite natural remedy of our Grandparents, and their parents before them. This is one of those "ol'time products" that Granny was right about.... they truly work! Pine Tar products are even recommended by the National Psoriasis Foundation for relief of various symptoms caused by psoriasis. Pine tar is a natural moisturizer with cleansing and antiseptic properties. Tar can help slow down the rapid growth of skin cells and also help reduce redness, itching and scaling. Pine Tar Soap has long been used to help relieve the symptoms of psoriasis, eczema, dandruff, acne, contact dermatitis, poison ivy, bug bites and other skin irritations. In general it is also good for very dry, itchy skin. My "Granny's Pine Tar Soap" is my wonderful base recipe (50% Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Palm Kernel Oil, Canola Oil, and Cocoa Butter) with the addition of 20% all natural, 100% pure Pine-Tar as an additive. To enhance the recipe a small amount of the finest aromatherapy grade essential oils have been added: Peppermint, Lavender, and Oakmoss. These bars will retail for $6 a piece, and weigh a min. of 4-4.5oz. (Disclaimer: We make no medical claims about our soap. As always you should test this product on your skin to see how you will react; everyone's skin is different. If any irritation occurs you should discontinue usage immediately.)

    Spa Salt Bar:

And to round out IGF's soap products is my new personal favorite product hands down: Spa Salt Bar. WOWOWOW.... does this make your skin feel absolutely smooth, soft, and as if a light lotion was applied! Unlike a salt scrub this bar is *not* scratchy at all. In fact, once you roll it around the first time in a wash cloth the bar of soap itself will become like a bar of polished granite --- smooth, smooth, smooth. It's made from Coconut Oil, Canola, Palm Kernel, Olive and Safflower oils. It has mineral spa salts added to it, and it's topped off with a wonderful new scent in our product line: Cotton Blossom. Cotton Blossom is a clean, soft floral scent enhanced with notes of Lily, Tonka bean, and musky Violets. Its light, sophisticated, feminine yet unisex scent -- will remind you of clothes fresh out of the dry, or dried by the sun on the line. A light blue natural mica colorant reminds me of the beautiful ocean of the Gulf Coast. These bars will retail for $6 a piece, and weigh a min. of 4-4.5oz.
  14. In Granny's Footsteps
IGF has finally moved completely into our new soap studio, aka "The Soap Barn." I love it! I have so much more room, more storage, and it's just really a fun place to go and hang out with my family. Each one of us has our own area in the barn itself, and it makes for a "hot spot" of activity.

Here are a few inside pics:

I made six batches of soap this weekend,... and they are all cut and on the drying racks! Look for a few new scents even:

Red Currant -- yummy! and Bay Rum for my male customers! Also should have my new Spa-Salt-Bar ready soon too! What a way to make your skin soft and polished feeling.

And come introduce yourself and sniff my soaps till your hearts content at two upcoming area shows that directly benefit excellent causes:

JUNE 16th - MARCH AGAINST METH - What a great event and excellent cause! Let's do our part to help stop meth in Paulding County! This event will feature various booths/vendors from our area, food, live music, gift raffle, and much more! This event will take place at the Silver Comet Trail Head at Seaboard Ave. If you'd like to participate in the walk itself registration begins at 8:30 am - to participate $10 in advance or $15 at the event Bring photos of loved ones lost to the meth addiction for a remembrance wall. Contact Lt. Dee Morris at Paulding Co. Sherrif's office at 7-443-3010

  15. In Granny's Footsteps
First off, I'm all moved into the Soap Barn! I need to take and post pictures. I LOVE IT!

Also -- very soon you'll see a new product for sale: SPA SALT BARS! If you've ever had a salt-glo scrub at a spa, or enjoyed a salt scrub at home, then you'll flip over these bars! They offer a creamy, lotion-like lather that gently tones, exfoliates, lifting and cleansing surface toxins away. They are hard as a rock, smooth as polished granite, and smell wonderful. They are currently in the second phase of recipe testing.... but I'll have them out there soon.

Now, everyone always likes to smell products first before they buy, right? Well come join In Granny's Footsteps for what should prove to be a great community event:

FAMILY FUN DAY - Johnny's Pizza in New Hope on Sunday, July 22. This will be a family event with lots of fun for everyone. All proceeds will go to the Field of Hope team in the Atlanta 3-Day Walk for Breast Cancer.

My best friend Jo died of breast cancer. I cannot think of a more worthy cause than this one!

    Hope to see you there.
  16. In Granny's Footsteps
I thought I'd post here our newly updated "About Me" section for our Commerce Membership.
    -------------------------

In Granny's Footsteps is a cottage based business located in SE Georgia, with strong roots in the Paulding County area. We are still property owners in the area, and strong supporters of Paulding.com. We spent over 20 years as residents, and have family and many friends still in the area.

IGF was founded as an official business in October of 2006. Before that, IGF existed as the passion and handicraft of our soap artisan, Rebecca Stanford. She has been making soap for the last 15 years, with an emphasis on more naturally based, "old-timey-goodness" bars for the last 6 years. She has spent a great deal of time in field testing of her products, and formulation of all her recipes. IGF uses only the best fixed oils, specialty oils, aromatherapy grade essential oils, trusted fragrance oils, natural colorants, and organic herbs, many of which are homegrown at IGF. Rebecca has devoted much of the last 21 years of her life to the research and application of herbs, aromatherapy oils, natural-healing, and eco-friendly products.

IGF will be building a new "green" soap studio in S. GA. The house and studio is passive-solar designed, and will be calling upon many green/eco-friendly techniques in its construction. We aim to make IGF more and more eco-conscious, while maintaining our ever steady devotion to quality, handmade, natural products for your family.

Please visit our website for more information and current stock. We are always available to work with you one on one in the development of a product/soap to suit your particular needs as well. We look forward to sharing with you the benefits of quality, handmade, natural products!
  17. In Granny's Footsteps
Our website has just been updated, and our shelves are stocked!

The "Soap Barn" is being moved into now --- I'll post pictures soon. We're so excited with the new and improved workspace.

Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions you might have about our products.

Thanks so much for your continued support!
  18. In Granny's Footsteps
In Granny's Footsteps will be updating our inventory on the website today, May 1, 2007. Our son did very well with his surgery, and is half-way through his recovery. Thank you for your support! Please feel free to email us in the mean time with any questions you may have.

ALSO -- exciting news: "The Soap-Barn" aka the bigger home/workshop space for IGF is about 90% complete. We're working hard to get it completed, so I can move all supplies/etc. over to it, and get things rolling in a bigger space.
  19. In Granny's Footsteps
In Granny`s Footsteps will be CLOSED beginning April 19, 2007 thru at least April 30th.

Our son is having surgery, and our time will have to be spent helping him through his recovery.

The new scents are ready to be boxed/labelled today, and to head to your home!

I'll take pictures today and post them to P.com.

    ~ Green Clover and Aloe

    ~ Hawaiian Ginger

    ~ Midnight Margaritas

    ~Monkey Farts

Yeah! Spring is here, and the new soaps are too!
  21. In Granny's Footsteps
When I'm not working on standard stocked soaps/products, I'm researching, formulating, or maybe even out wildcrafting herbs. Right now I'm harvesting wild-mullein from the sides of country roads. You may see it growing somewhere in Paulding County -- if you do, PM me with where you saw it!

These are things that I learned about that my Grandmother Mary would have done. Fortunately there is quite a bit of herbal information, folklore, etc. that have survived in the south. I so enjoy chatting with other people who have an interest in herbs, plants, trees -- their properties and uses.

Here's what mullein looks like -- so keep your eyes open!

Another project I'm currently working on right now is a FABULOUS Scrub & Mask. It's in the testing phase right now. It combines wonderful things for the skin like several types of clay, buttermilk, cucumber, oats, and specific essential oils (and much, much more!).

I've been using mine when I soak in the tub... pour a little into my palm, add some water to it making a paste, then applying to my face as a scrub. You then leave it (if you choose) and allow it to dry like a mask. Rinse and viola! Your skin is left feeling extra smooth, and clean. I find for combo to oily skin that this scrub/mask works wonders! I follow up with a good facial moisturizer, and I'm good to go. Look for it in my online store in the next few months.
