  1. There is a list on msnbc that states it is the BRAC 2005 Closure and Realignment:

    Georgia

    Fort Gillem Close

    Fort McPherson Close

    Inspector/Instructor Rome GA Close

    Naval Air Station Atlanta Close

Naval Supply Corps School Athens Close

    Peachtree Leases Atlanta Close

    U.S. Army Reserve Center Columbus

If I read the stories right, this is actually the preliminary list to be reviewed for possible closure. They are the bases the pentagon is offering up for closure, knowing that most will not be closed.

It is not the final list of bases that will be closed that the reporters are making it out to be.

    edited to add

Are there two lists being made public today? One is the Rumsfield list of the few bases to be closed, and the list from the pentagon of (150?) bases that could be reviewed for closure  sometime in the future.r

  2. You are leaving some important facts out of this. First, while the House Democrats are the ones that wiped the money out in their version of the budget, the Senate-controlled Republicans had no objections. None. They kept it intact in their version of the budget. Plus, over $20 million was earmarked for Gov. Perdue's Georgia Land Conservation Partnership . Second, if Gov. Perdue objected to taking the money, he has the ability to line-item veto that portion of the budget and would have kept the money intact. He didn't so he must have wanted that 67 million also. As for the projects, they range from pavings in state parks to a nine hole golf course for a House Rep at a state park.

TBAR, Speaker Murphy had his stroke before the budget came out. I would venture to say that he didn't know exactly what the House Democrats were about to do with that money. But, I don't know this as fact just sheer speculation.

    Whoa

I think everyone is off-base a little. The money for the West Ga reservoir was stolen from Haralson County and West Georgia by the (1 year) Democrat Speaker of the House after Murphy and before Richardson. It was an unconsionable act perpetrated on all the citizens of the State. It set a precedent that will surely be followed from now on. The Bonds were sold specifically for the W Ga reservoir. Once Murphy was out of office his Democrat brethren stole the money from the special fund it was in. They used it for Pork Barrel projects all over the State. They did this because there was a cash shortfall after the glutony of projects built during the previous (Democrat) Governors Administration. So a bunch of Democrats stole the money from the former Democrat's District to fund their projects that were promised during the previous Democrat (Governors') tenure.

And folks remember, when the day is done, this was about politics at its purest, meanest, dirtiest form.

  3. My college roommate was from Cullman. I went once in college. It is neat.

The monk that built the minatures was hunchbacked from an accident when he was a child. It is truly fascinating to me.

I have always wanted to visit the Ave Maria Grotto in Cullman, Alabama... :)

I hear it is only a couple of hours away ?

I saw a photo of it in a book when I was a child and I have been mesmerized

by it ever since, can't explain it ...

Has anyone ever been there ?

I heard it took a Monk many, many years to carve this out of the hillside...

    Any info is welcome... B)  B)  B)

  4. I can understand anyone not liking Speaker Murphy but he is not to blame for the lack of a reservoir in West Georgia. In my former life, I worked on the reservoir and I see soo much misinformation about how it ended and it makes me sick and I truly hope that the Chairman is not telling the things that TBAR attributed to him. To blame Speaker Murphy is just downright wrong. If we are assigning blame, look no further than Sonny Perdue because it was his idea to kill the reservoir and disperse the bond money in the Department of Natural Resources. There wasn't one thing that Tom Murphy could have done despite what TBAR thinks.

TBAR just doesn't like Murphy because he's a copperhead. It is kind of like the right wing pundits blaming Clinton for today's high gasoline prices or increased cost of medical care ... or the moral degenercy of the soldiers at Abu Grahib.

When you recognize that their contempt is not so much for the target of their barbs but for the truth, you recognize that they've spun themselves so much, they can't tell up from down or right from wrong.

PS: TBAR, didn't you know that the tunnels actually go deep and there is a spur that goes all the way, under the ocean, to Iraq. The WMD's, being a high-priority in the Clinton Administration, were removed via the tunnels and are actually stored somewhere underground in Paulding.  They couldn't reveal their removal because it would compromise the secrecy of the tunnels project.  But you knew that.

  5. I disagree with you. I don't think there was anything Murphy could have done to stop it. When the session began, that is when he had his stroke and probably had no idea what has happening to that money.

That's what I said. The money was already partitioned off for Paulding. Then other folks saw weakness in Murphy & went after the cash. They got it. Could Murphy have stopped it? You bet. Did he? No. Is that slanderous? No. It's politics. It was Murphy's way of getting back at both Heath & Paulding, & that is what Webby & I both said.

  6. This is the way I see it and anyone can flame me if they so choose: Regardless of the symbolism of the flamingos, they are against the neighborhood covenant and should be removed. People move into these convenant neighborhoods for a reason. If you want to display your collection of garden gmones, a convenant neighborhood is not for you.

Naa, don't do that, it's not any fun!

We're going to disagree on here.  We all have our opinions and I doubt that all of us could agree on anything!  She didn't bother asking why the birds were there, you'll looking at the symbolism of them for RFL. It's a difference of viewpoint.  No big deal.

When someone starts out ranting, I think it's nature to rant right back.  I don't see how she can complain about that.

  7. Do you remember what happened after the election and Mr. Murphy lost? There was a power struggle between two candidates for Speaker. One with the backing of the Democrats and other (a Democrat) who had a coalition of Republicans and some Democrats. I believe that Mr. Murphy's time was taking up trying to make sure that the Democrats elected Terry Coleman.

Plus, why do the area any favors once you are bounced out of office? Let the new guy deal with it and have million dollars that you have to fight for when you are a freshman with those veteran legislators drooling over the money.

Oh, come on now, Webby. You really don't think he didn't have enough clout to get something done, e.g., the photo negatives, the paper trail, the tapes, etc., to still do what he wanted? He was still the most powerful man in GA until the new session took over.

    Boss Hog Murphy.

  8. Again, NOT TRUE. TBAR, I don't know where you get your info but it is totally incorrect and borderline slanderous against Tom Murphy.

Who was Tom Murphy going to call? Do you remember that Sonny Perdue was elected governor as a Republican? Sonny Perdue wasn't going to do ONE thing to help Tom Murphy. Plus, the new Speaker was not going to do Bill Heath any favors. Isn't that the same Bill Heath that slammed Tom Murphy on this issue during the election anyway? Come on. You understand politics a little better than that, don't you?

Ok. Ok. I'll admit to the spin.

However, it is true that Boss Hog Murphy did nothing to stop the other DEMs hijacking that money during that period before Heath took over. All it would have taken was a phone call from Boss Hog & collect a favor . . . but, nooooo. Murphy was ticked at Paulding. So, yes, I spun it, but I also know that Murphy had only to make a phone call & Paulding would have its resevoir.

  9. I've been to Amsterdam. Where are you going and will you have anytime for yourself?

I have been told this morning to get my passport ready and get my bags packed because I am soon going to be taking a business trip to the the Netherlands.    It will probably only be for 2 - 4 days.  Has anyone on Pcom ever been to the Netherlands?

  10. O-M-G. That information is totally incorrect and if the Chair Dude is repeating it to people, he should stop immediately.

The bonds for the West Georgia resevior were there and sold by the Department of Natural Resources. Then, Tom Murphy lost and Bill Heath did not have the clout in the legislature to keep the project going forward. It had nothing to do with Tom Murphy being ticked at Paulding and taking away the resevoir. Tom Murphy couldn't do one thing about that after he was defeated.

    O-M-G. Here we go again.

    4) The resevoir. That was approved by the voters of Paulding. The GA Legislature even set aside the money. Then Tom Murphy got ticked off at Paulding because Paulding began voting GOP. Other DEMs saw that as a chance to get that money for them instead of Paulding. Tom Murphy didn't stop it either. Chair Dude gave this synopsis at the last BOC meeting. He also covered this at the debates at Chatt Tech. This was covered on the Front Porch Show.

How much more misinformation can you give?

  11. OMG, that breaks my heart! I don't have any advice but I am sorry.

Thanks painfultruth: i have a question for anyone that can help:

we still have another chinnihua, which is the son of the one that was killed,  he missies his mama something fierce, what can i do to help him not greive his self to death?

we have all been showing him extra love and attention, but they have never been seprated, so any ideas would be helpful:

my son seen him laying on his mama's grave the other day, so i need some advice on how to help this poor pet through this:

  12. It is a natural conflict. Each branch believes that their religion is the one ordained by God. What verse is it, the one in Matthew. Go out and make a believer of men.

That is their charge so they want to make believers and converts to their religion.

Those that use the Bible to hate aren't true believers, in my opinion. You can't pick and choose the verses you want to believe.

    ok this is a vent....

One religion puts down another and they have no idea what they are talking about.  Man has created different branches of religions all based upon the same Bible.  BUT each religion puts down the other based upon their interpretation.  I don't understand why the Bible that teaches tolerance and love causes so many people to hate and created such separation of people.

  13. Congrats!

I took the GRE ten years ago and I don't think I did anything really to prepare. No advice just congrats!

I applied for graduate school today.  It has been ten years since I have been in school.  I am very nervous about going back to school.  Does anyone have any advice for takin the GRE????

  14. I don't support the land rush that many go through during a divorce. Usually, it is the spouse that didn't want the divorce that wants to make the other suffer or that is their way of getting revenge <----that maybe where the crazy in the ex-spouse comes from.

I don't have a problem. I made an observation based on numbers posts here and other conversations. You chose to take offense to it for some reason or another. Did I hit a nerve??

You may not have as many issues in life if you quit making yourself the victim in everything.

  15. Oh, I adore my husband and my children. I couldn't imagine life without them!

Make me feel very blessed to have the relationship I do with my wife! We are far from perfect, but very much in love and extremely happy!! Who else out there feels the same way about their situation.. lets see some good relationship talk for once!

  16. In all seriousness, you and your husband are suffering a great disconnect in your relationship. Your expectations and his are not being met.

Do you go to church? Is there someone y'all could talk to about this? Having an counselor can help tremedously.

The fact that you posted this on a public message board saddens me because I think you are hurt over this and do not have anyone in real life to discuss this with.

    Your not married are you?

  17. Maxi: Can't the tunnel foreman be a female? Mama was a Rakestraw who married a Ragsdale yet she married a Tibbits!

So maybe I'm off topic, but one thing is really, really bothering me...  If your Mama was a Rakestraw, but she married a Ragsdale, how did you become a Tibbits???  That is much more interesting at this point than any tunnels being built.

Is Tibbits your "Secret Squirrel" name?  Or, perhaps, were you abducted at some point and forced to marry into an alien race that traditionally assumes the female's last name?  I'm really curious...

  18. Hey! I thought the Chairman didn't support mass transit!!!!!!

In case you were not listening to the Front Porch Show last night, I call in to talk about the Tunnel Project.  My name is Cochran Tibbits.  My Mother was a Rakestraw but she married a Ragsdale.

I answered several questions last night about this project.  If you missed it you miss a lot.  Just so you will know, I have posted a high confidential pi of teh project.  this photo was taken at a top secret location.  I am sorry but I can not give out that information.

If you have any questions you would like me to answer for you let me know.  I will be calling back in to the Front Porch show from time to time.

Well that is all for now.  I got to go check on a workmans comp claim.  One of my workers claims he can't eat his chicken because his foot hurts..
