DoD Identifies Army Casualty The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. Spc. Christopher G. Patton, 21, of Lawrenceville, Ga., died Sept. 1 in Baghdad, Iraq, in a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. The circumstances surrounding the death are under investigation.

My husband’s grandfather passed away last week. He died a true WWII hero. He was a paratrooper with the 507th. He was dropped behind enemy lines on D-day. They were supposed to have been dropped eighteen miles to the northwest at drop zone “T” near Amfreville, but instead they ended-up in the vicinity of the village of Montmartin-en-Graignes. Theirs was the worst misdrop of any airborne unit on June 6, 1944. He saw many fellow soliders drown in the marsh after being dropped at the wrong spot. Thats sad. I ran into him (literally!!) at DragonCon a few years back and he was looking poorly. May he rest in peace. -
