Son is wanting to play the Trumpet
DALLASGIRL0618 replied to DALLASGIRL0618's topic in RECENT TOPICS
That is exactly what I plan to do. I have the names and numbers you sent me in the private message and plan to use them this weekend. That way I will be a little more educated before I go to that meeting next week. I think Saturday, my son and I will be visiting a couple of places you named. Thank you again for all of your help. -

My son told me this morning that they will be a holding a meeting next week to talk to parents. He also said that a local music store comes in on Thursdays. The kids can rent instruments through them for $30/mos and at the end of the year, it's paid for. I will go to the meeting next week and get all the details. -

Thank you so much. You gave me some great information. I will definitely make sure he is going to do it and stick with it before I put a lot of money into anything. And have to find the money to do anything at all. -

Great advice. Thank you. My daddy has been gone for 14 yrs now, but he played trumpet all through High School, and then went on to play it at NCSU until he graduated from there. My son has his build, and the band teacher even told him his build and the shape of his lips would be great for trumpet. That is why he chose it. He didn't know that his Grandaddy played it because he never met him, but of course my mom now thinks it is meant for him to play it. -

Thank you. I was just looking on Craigslist. There are a couple of student trumpets from about $350, all the way to $900. I think the $900 one said it is a Bach Stradivarius. As far as how serious he is, I have no way of knowing yet. This is his first year of middle school, and his first time being in band obviously. It may be something he loves and sticks with it through High School, or may be something he hates and quits. -

My brother saw one for sale on the internet, used for $100. It has a case, too. I just know nothing about them, or what a fair price would be. Thank FG. I am going to check them out now. -
I have never had a band child before. My son is wanting to play the trumpet. Where is the best place to go and get one? How much money should I be expecting to pay?
-
Who me? Naaaaah! Just speaking in general terms. OK OK! I couldn't even keep a straight face on that one.

And that is why we love you!

I had issues with my windows last year. 3 of them went out within a week. Luckily it was covered under my warranty and CarMax fixed them. LOVE CarMax. Exactly! -

My 2005 Jeep Liberty doesn't have one, or a cigarette lighter. It has the charger, but not the lighter. -
I know, right?
-
Nope. They have their own, and are doing the digging for me. :yahoo:
-
They are about to be reminded. TRUST me!

LMAO! Get'er LR!

Yep. Ms. Kaylee will be so happy her Nana quit smoking. And you know I got your back.

How do you feel about the ones that go out and buy a $10,000 vehicle while on foodstamps, doesn't claim the money your husband is bringing home because he is self employed and doesn't claim an income or pay taxes, lies out their butts to try and get out of caring for his children, and yet go to church 3 times a week and claim to be Christians?
-
I knew you didn't mean it like that. I didn't take it in a negative way. She learned to do laundry last year in home-ec at school and suddenly started requesting that I NOT touch her laundry. I actually think she did this hoping to keep me from finding out that she was doing it.
-
Hell, then I can't even let her go down to the neighborhood pool. There are a LOT of school age kids down there, sitting outside the fence, and smoking. They supply them to her too. And LGM, for the most part, she does do her own laundry.
-
I can't be with her 24 hrs a day, so if she goes to Stars and Strikes or Sparkles, and her friends supply her with a cigarette and she chooses to smoke it, then what? And let me just say, SHE is the LAST child I ever expected to make that choice. She has always thought it was a nasty habit, and spoke about how stupid it was, and how she didn't want to grow up toothless and wrinkly like her Granny, yet I find out this year she herself is now doing it. She didn't get them from me, and she won't get them from me, but I don't know which of her friends are smokers and which aren't.

FYI: It may not be the parents, but the kids who are actually doing the smoking themselves. I don't smoke and never have, but my kids chose to ignore my lectures on this. The kids smoking these days, have started at an amazingly young age. Just sayin...
