  1. Somewhere down the road in the last 20 years or so, some bright group/person thought year round school would be best for kids. This is whqt you get. They aren't going any longer to be smarter--they are just physically stretching the calendar so it looks like they go longer--of course with the numerous breaks. I'm good either way. There are pros and cons to both sides. Just quit calling it year round school--they aren't really getting anymore of an education then they always have. I do personally like the new Sept. break, but only from the standpoint of --if I could afford a vacation---the b
  2. Prayers go out to my friends. Jason was a wonderful son doing a wonderful thing for us all. My prayers go out to Claire, Jason and their younger son, Parker. Thank you JJ. You will be missed!
  3. Thank you. You are very generous. We (The Girls/Volunteers) appreciate the support our community gives us.
  4. I'm no expert, but I do have both a boy scout and a girl scout. I know the money and the whole organizations are run very different. Their purposes are very similiar in that they are both doing good things with kids. I primarily know about the GS's. For the GS--We have the ATlanta Council and in that are lots of Service Units and in each SU there are tons of troops. Each troop meets where ever they want and don't have a "sponsor" like a church. Some may meet at a church, but it is not sponsoring them---in most cases. The Atanta Council provides Free Training and Background checks to
  5. Wouldn't it depend on what he looked like and how long he was planning on staying! Just kidding. I would find it gross as well. Stay out of my clean sheets!
  6. I like B the best! The one week difference in August isn't really a big deal. The week off in Sept. is kind of cool. For those that might be able to afford a beach vacation--its after Labor Day and Rates are cheaper and less crowds. Sounds like a possibility!
  7. Exactly! My troop also partcipates in the senior center caroling and both the young and old love that! Our troop enjoys learning new things. Schools don't take as many field trips as they did when I was a kid, so my girls are getting to see stuff that they otherwise might not. We love it too.
  8. Thanks for the postitive comments. I as a leader don't like the push on cookies, but I do understand the need for them. I try not to make a big deal out of cookie sells. It is what it is. I personally look forward to a few of my favorite cookies every year. Hopefully my troop will sell enough so that we may continue to do many fun activities. Everything costs more these days for us to do. If there are companies out there that would like to donate money to a troop ---that is a tax write off-- and a big help. Enjoy your cookies in the spring!
  9. I hate that your so negative. Nothing is perfect. I didn't mean to say that it is all rosey. Just that when you have volunteers that care, it can play a positive roll in a child. Its not for everyone. Nor is soccer, or piano. I was a GS as a kid. Did it change me--I don't know. I grew up trying to do the "right" thing. But maybe that was my parents, or maybe it was church. Maybe they all worked together. All I know is that I am trying to instill positive things in girls in todays world that trys so hard to be a negative with idols in the music world,or movie world. I'm glad your child
  10. As for the early date, I believe the Atlanta Area Council, which is giant, is trying to be the first in the SE to sell maybe. They think that with the Holidays and people visiting and kids out of school that it will be easier, but I completely disagree as I stated above. This is the Holidays, leave people alone and let everyone enjoy the season. As for the comment on what GS even do. Very uncalled for. We've been involved now 4 years. I love spending time with these girls. Teaching them skills that will last a life time, and memories and friendships that will last a life time. These
  11. I am a GS leader/volunteer. Yes its cookie time again. My child and I are protesting slightly. We haven't made the first attempt to sell. I just don't agree with selling them during Christmas. After the new year, we will hit the streets. And it is a GS rule that girls must be accompanied with an adult and in uniform. When I go with my child I might not go up to every door with her, but I'm right there watching. Oh, and we only go to neighbors that I know. So Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and we'll see you in about a week! Plus the cookies don't come in until the end of Feb. so
  12. People are idots. My son loved several of those videos. I didn't let him watch TV all day then or now--now age 7. But a little of something rather entertaining and I think some what educational is good for them. They were exposed to wonderful music that is classic and then shapes ect.. depending on which video you watch. No TV show, video ect.. is supposed to replace real interaction with mommy and daddy teaching a child things. Why are some so stupid? Ok Vent over.
  13. The only time I saw it rain so much was probably 10 years ago due to a Hurricane that we got the aftermath from. But never just rain like this. I know we all prayed for rain for the last 2 years, but I guess now we should do a reversal on that prayer.
  14. I think its the "professional" type of riders that think they own the trail and a lot of them don't obey the rules of the trail. But casual riders, like my family, obey them all. Especially when coming up on someone, to let them know you are there and passing on their left. I can't stand to be surprized and not warned. Someone is going to get hurt!
  15. The teachers have a list of buses---you just need to know the name of the street you live on--hopefully that isn't an issue! Ha!
  16. Someone I went to Highschool is on there. I don't like reality shows, but since I know someone, I guess I'll try.
  17. Where about it that road? Not familiar with it. I hope they don't harm it either.
  18. Haven't been in a few years. Is it still at the old court house parking lot and still starts early---like 7am? do they have a good selection? Would you recommend visiting? Thanks for the info.
  19. I too am a graduate of NC-1984. I remember him and his sister. Haven't heard their names in years. Sorry to hear about that. Prayers sent out for the family and friends.
