  1. According to the U.N., Afghanistan remains one of the worst places to be a woman, and violence against women remains "endemic." Her Husband Cut Off Her Nose When She Protested His Decision To Marry A Child . Refinery 29 UK By Meghan DeMaria 2 hours ago Update: More details have emerged about the young woman who had her nose cut off by her husband in Afghanistan, The New York Times and the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission report. Reza Gul, 20, was attacked by her husband on Sunday after arguing with him over his decision to take a 6- or 7-year-old niece
  2. I just got an email they are dismissing early. Not sure what time
  3. It just started raining here and it's 40 degrees.
  4. I'm glad they caught them and the money was recovered. Dayum! It just seems to get worse.
  5. My husband said it was sleeting on Cedarcrest
  6. My husband just called and it's sleeting in Acworth and just started on Cedarcrest.
  7. Those look GREAT! but how much trouble? It looks like a lot of work...........
  8. We've got a serious drug problem in this county. There's some big players out there supplying, lots of folks revolving in and out of jail. There was news the other night about the heroin epidemic in Atlanta and surrounding areas. And it usually stems from Opiate use, what these mill pills on every corner are dispensing. I don't understand why our legislature doesn't do something about this. They ran them out of Florida a few years back and they all set up shop on every corner in Georgia. Appalachia suffers the worst of all I think.
  9. I saw that on FB. I wish him the best, but I would imagine he doesn't want to be found right now. At least that's what I'm hoping and he's not dead somewhere.
  10. I saw this on the news, it's at the Tenn/Ga line, an area expected to have freezing rain and ice.
  11. Whatever. This is a virus transmitted by a mosquito from Africa that made its way by travelling as a host on an airline. It didn't just pop up out of thin "warm" air, it's been around. Just not in the Americas.
  12. That has nothing to do with a native African mosquito travelling around the world. It's kinda like when Columbus "discovered" the Americas and brought smallpox, influenza, death, slavery and extintion to the natives. Seriously?
  13. It's a virus from a mosquito, that has been reportedly brought in with luggage from traveling passengers. Has nothing to do with global warming climate change, it has to do with the world being more mobile and more countries bringing in their native diseases and viruses. Like Ebola.
  14. I got the call too. It's so funny, I ran across some arguing on FB because the local counties didn't close schools for today. For what? Like I said, I think the projections are pretty accurate and we won't see much of anything, and it will be late in the day if it does happen. Two years ago when the storm came in people got upset, but I watched the weather and decided when I needed to check my grandson out of school. Personal responsibility. I don't need the government to tell me when to get my child. But then people love to argue, especially about the weather
  15. It's in Texas now. At one time it's was confined to Africa and SE Asia. Only 14 cases reported in 50 years. Now it's on the move. In 2005 it showed up outside of Africa and made its way to the Americas in 2014 in Chile. Brazil had their first report in 2015. Now it's in Texas. Although it can cause Zika viral infections, what's worse is the terrible birth defects if a pregnant woman is bitten. Babies with the defect are born with underdeveloped brains. It can be spread by blood and sex, and a few people developed Guillain-Barre syndrome after Zika virus infection. Zika
  16. Catoosa County (at the Tenn/Ga) line is reporting icing on bridges on I-75. We're supposed to get a cold rain that freezes on contact, if anything at all. No ice or snow. I think the weather folks do a go job at projections and timing. When this happened a couple of years ago, I watched, it was supposed to be here by 10AM and it was. I went to the HS and checked out my grandson and we were home in time for the storm.
  17. This is the national map I just saw on Yahoo. Could be more to it than we're thinking............ East Coast, Ohio Valley brace for possible big snowstorm . Associated Press By SETH BORENSTEIN 5 hours ago WASHINGTON (AP) — Tens of millions of Americans from Washington to Boston and the Ohio Valley could be walloped by an end-of-the-week snowstorm, meteorologists say. Although it's still early, computer forecast models all see a windy, strong slow-moving storm. The big questions are where and how much. "There's going to be a big storm. Somebody's going to get walloped," sa
  18. I think she was probably talking about Cindy's. We know the family that owns it too. They are on FB. And it's real soul southern cooking. Grandma is black and knows how to cook. The way I first came across the food they catered an event at my grandson's family event. I'm thinking I may have just eaten there too much and moved onto something else, right now my thing is the California salad from O'Charly's. And like she said ... Don't be in a hurry. I usually call ahead. You're really should try it one day.
  19. It's not expected to come in until around 11:00AM, but they don't want the kids to get stuck at school. They're expecting 2 inches.

  21. Audrey's is ok. I'm always hungery shortly after I leave there. I love Cindy's Kitchen, but some days it seems like the cooking is off a little bit. I love the collards and the cornbread fritter, but some days the mac & cheese is just not what I expect. But it is good most of the time, albiet a little expensive.
