  1. I think if you look at the ordinances closely, glassdogs, you'll see that non-platted (as in a subdivision) properties - that is about all there was until about 1987 - are exempted from the litter and abandoned car ordinances that cover the majority of the county. While some homes and properties in subdivisions are on state roads and major arterial roads, mostly those homes were platted independently and are not technically inside subdivisions. This is largely a grandfathering of rules from the time before the county began its growth, again about 1986. The PTB chose to exept these prop
  2. The difference between good and bad strategies is a challenge that faces all of us, both in our private and public lives. So much of what passes for strategy is puff as strategy is best defined looking at the problems faced and then developing concrete actions to address those problems in a real manner in the short term is the message. The video, which is of professor Richard Rumelt was presented before the London School of Economics in 2011. It actually hits home pointing to failures and successes at the local, state and federal level including the efforts in New Mexico, which implement
  3. Surepip: First, I can say with 100 percent assurance I was never a party to any of what you describe. Indeed, because it is has been in litigation it has been a topic before the public and on the public record and most assuredly on Paulding.com - the site I own - for eight years. That said, where is the Sheriff, the prosecutor, the GBI, the FBI, the United States attorney, the superior court, the appeals court and the federal courts? They all have more responsibility for ferreting out the truth of this than any post commissioner or county commissioner who comes in after the fact.
  4. Actually, Howard's effort to remove the tax break for Delta went nowhere in the general assembly this last session. And, for the first time since he first sought election to the school board in 1988, Howard is facing competition in the Republican primary. Don't tell me you think that is a coincidence, NewsJunky. George Patton Hughes (aka: pubby)
  5. You're right, the Delta Connection is falling apart. That was the Delta program that used smaller regional jets that went to these various cities and they've cut back service tremendously ... in part creating the need for an alternative airport in Atlanta. But somehow I don't think that was the Delta connection you meant ... and that one is as real today as it was when they paid the lawyers to throw a wrench in the plans for the airport here. Beyond that, they've accomplished a lot of what they wanted with the courts ... they've delayed the effort. The next step, of course, is to rem
  6. A great Republican told us all about that, Zorro ... You can fool all the people some of the time, some of the people all the time but you can't fool all the people all the time. - A. Lincoln. pubby
  7. Are you implying I'm gay? Seriously, dog ... I don't know precisely what you're talking about - I don't follow that issue closely and I'm not familiar with Michigan's gay marriage ban or Eric Holder's action in regard to it. I would assume that is a matter of litigation and presumably, that would be up to the courts and the constitution. Further, I think you may be confusing justice with politics on the order of Brown v. Board of Education and Eisenhower sending federal troops to Little Rock to open the high schools in 1957. But, in any case, that issue has zero relevance to Pauldin
  8. Glassdogs You're selling pcom short. Actually we've done pretty well. Hell, back in 2006 Whitey took credit for defeating the 'stealth' $125 million bond issue for the schools using just Paulding.com. The independent stats folks - quantcast and google analytics - tell me that I reach upwards of 40,000 'absolute unique' visitors every month and that right at 90 percent of them are from the Atlanta DMA. Regular users are typically in the 20,000 absolute uniques range and visits actually increase during election periods. Does the site reach everyone? No. Would having discussio
  9. That's a real good history lesson there Nitr0. I'm sure the law changed when Mr. Woodruff got pulled over for sipping his Coca-Cola as he was driving home from work one day. ROTFLMAO George Patton "Pat" Hughes (aka: pubby) PS: Hint: If you want to make that depiction of drinking while driving law's evolution believable, have the people in your example drinking Pepsi's
  10. Funny isn't it. Don't you just love gaming the system. I posted a response to Ms. Howard in another topic that seems appropriate. It is the old joke about how various economic systems are explained to a farmer with two cows. Socialism: You have two cows. The government takes one and gives it to your neighbor. Communism: You have two cows. You give them to the Government, and the Government then gives you some milk. Fascism: You have two cows. You give them to the Government, and the Government then sells you some milk. Capitalism: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull.
  11. You say I have a personal problem with conservatives. That is bull. My problem is with outside people - non-Paulding people tied to national groups claiming to know what the hell is best for Paulding county because some ideologue in some Washington DC think tank funded by some energy company czar in some other state is intent on building what I consider a new form of nobility. We have issues we need to address both locally and nationally. This race is about the local issues. The idea that one ideology defined and dictated from somewhere else answers all the questions is wrong.
  12. Thad: I'm going to disagree with you that these are the issues. They are issues but to center this election on them is a big mistake. See, the easy answer ... the one that Whitey lauds as the greatest in the world ... is to shut 'em down. Yep, you, Whitey and the folks aligned with the Americans for Prosperity and the ubber right wing, after doing their business on the national level, want to constrain and 'drown local government' in a bath tub too. No never mind they got where they got saying it wasn't the federal government's role to do things; this type of action should be left to state a
  13. Do I sense a 'man crush' Whitey? Yep, you're blinded by the light alright George Patton "Pat" Hughes (aka: pubby)
  14. I'm running for office Whitey. That doesn't mean I'm a smart politician. First, I'm running as a Democrat. While I think that is a good thing to do and being a long time believer in the two-party system, choice, etc. I can guarantee you that every time I've mentioned my party affiliation to Mr. Crowe, you'd think we were instantly transported to Calcutta and he was a Brahmin addressing an untouchable. Deep down I don't think he could be any less a supporter no matter what I say given his total lack of regard for 'democrats.' Of course that also means he doesn't consider me a threat eit
  15. Whitey: Given that most of the residents/subdivisions that Cathy Helms says are horribly impacted by the airport are four, five or six miles away from the airport I kind of figured that was the operative distance to cause concern. As far as Tony Crowe, I'm just saying what happened two years ago and recalling how hard it was to get him on the record four years ago. I mean the only other politician that has hid from cameras in recent memory are those under pressure for showing selfies like New Yorker Anthony Weiner ... no wait ... Weiner confronted the press. Only folks like Bill
  16. Let me add as a candidate that the constant harping and criticism - this is like the fourth or fifth time Ms. Helms has spoken on this issue - and this nagging tends, over the course of time, makes anyone who is the butt of such criticism want to do nothing. This is human nature. This begs the question: where was the criticism a year ago on the airport? There was none because no one thought they were doing anything. That dynamic - letting things slide when nothing seems to be happening and then criticizing mightily when something does happen builds an incentive on the part of those
  17. dfaewrqwcq Here is the image from my version of firefox (v. 27.0.1) which updated to v. 28 when I checked it. (it will update when I restart.) The only thing I can think of is that you're using an older version of firefox. ... or what version are you using? pubby
  18. Tony Crowe is the man who wont talk to the press on the record when he ran for commission chairman two years ago. He wouldn't even debate the sitting chairman or appear at any gathering where a video camera was present. This man is somehow going to be a paragon of openness and transparency? Give me a break, Whitey. The only thing more obvious in the history of American politics was Richard Nixon's secret plan to end the war in Vietnam in 1968 that he wouldn't talk about ... because ... well the secret was there was no plan. Seriously, Whitey ... when a politician says that he won't
  19. ” The reason people feel - and I emphasize 'feel' - they should be against this expansion of health care is because other people, for political reasons are telling them is so. ” I'll end it with golden oldie from the '60s ... that seems somewhat appropriate given the things going on and how 'clear' they are.” George Patton "Pat" Hughes (aka: pubby)
  20. Actually, TP ... they did. It was called Romneycare and it came into being as the conservative response to the single-payer system envisioned by the Clinton administration. It was developed initially by that conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation and lauded because it was dependent on the private sector insurance companies which provided the insurance for that conservative innovation, the market based health care exchange. Mitt actually ran on the proposition in 2008 but when the Democratic Congress moved that way after the 2008 election, Republicans took another giant leap to
  21. Apparently Mr. McDaniel was is a born and bred Georgian, born in Atlanta. Given that the man is not charged as a felon in possession of a handgun, one may assume that the man does not have had prior run-ins with the law and as such may have come by his ownership of the weapon legitimately for the purpose stated meaning the speculation may not have been off the mark at all. George Patton Hughes (aka: pubby)
  22. A zillow zestimate is a formulaic estimate that on average is only 10 percent wrong but can and does mis-estimate home values for what would be otherwise odd reasons. http://www.oregonlive.com/front-porch/index.ssf/2013/11/fixer-uppers_renovations_can_t.html ... Here's one where they misestimated a home by over $100,000 because they didn't get the history right. There is no way that kind of formulaic effort is going to be accurate in a specific instance. I wouldn't put much credence in to fluctuations recorded on zillow. I think most realtors would also discount the accuracy of zillow
  23. Nitr0: I suppose when I read the above, I thought you meant anywhere or any time ... firing range, hunting snipes, walking in the woods ... you know carrying them ... not specifically concealed carry in the classroom. You know like grade school kids = 6-12 year olds ... and ... dictionary please ... meaning 'carry' ... you know, like most folks who speak and write the language. I know different subcultures have different connotations and I suspect this the difference between the general culture and say, the 'gun culture' ... where carry actually means concealed car
  24. Actually, Nitr0, on the training ... there is training aimed at different audiences including gun safety training for youth of various ages. For instance, this article on http://www.nrafamilyinsights.org/article.php?id=3460&cat=52&sub=62 ... unless of course you don't think eight-year old girls should be trained in gun use and safety ... The plain fact is probably one of the most important findings from market research I did in the 1980s for the fishing industry was the finding that something like 80 percent of that day's avid fishermen had caught their first fish bef
  25. 1) Todd's a big boy. I'm sure he's heard many lies from many people and he hasn't self-immolated yet. I suspect throughout his existence he's told a couple as well - perfection eluding everyone you know. 2) In the 1-25 flight argument, activity and momentum is more like a flood than a fountain. You're expecting a fountain and we need a flood ... a rising of tides that lifts all boats. 3) Mitigating damage is more a matter of policy and in fact the benefit would accrue quicker and with more certainty if and when the airport went commercial. 4) The anti-folks missed their best oppo
