  1. There's a BIG key sentence right there. "It's been many years since they were around..." Methodology and tactics evolve and what worked 35 years ago isn't what works today. If it did, law enforcement officers wouldn't have to continue their education. Law enforcement training never stops and evolves to the times. 40 years ago when most 'thefts' were burglary and not a aggravated force-able felony, I would have agree... and I used to be a proponent for a shotgun as home defense. However, times change, the way homes are invaded, the mentality of the people doing the invasions
  2. That really means nothing. Just because he works at the sheriff's office doesn't mean he's a home defense instructor. There are many firearms course from basic pistol to advanced home defense and planning. And who do you think oversees the law enforcement training courses? The same organization that I am certified through. Many law enforcements agencies do their own training, but where do you think that training material comes from? As far as him being a firearms instructor for the Sheriff's office... that simply means he's certified to teach law enforcement firearms. I
  3. You have obviously never had to defend yourself or your family in any kind of life threatening assault. No, I'm not talking about being a Rambo. Again, stop putting words in my mouth to suit you. You obviously have no idea how fast a home invasion happens. If you think that hearing the sound of a shotgun will deter a crazed drug addict looking for goods and money so they can go buy their fix, you're crazy. If you are going to present yourself to an assailant in your house, you're crazy. If you think that a home invasion, people aren't going to try to kill you, you're cr
  4. Again, are you really going to wait to load the chamber until someone breaks in? Again, racking that slide is doing nothing but telling the robber your location. I didn't say it couldn't be done. I said overall it's a poor choice for a home defense weapon and a firearms instructor shouldn't be telling you that's what you need in a basic firearms class.
  5. And once again... education and training. And if we are talking about someone sitting in their first gun training course.... a shotgun? really? So Ms Little Petite 24 year old freshly out on her own is going to do better with a shotgun? Sorry, nothing is further from the truth. A pistol is much easier to control, especially for new shooters, than a shotgun. New shooters are typically uneasy about firing their first weapon. They are scared it's going to hurt them and anything that reinforces that is going to push them away. I ALWAYS start my new shooters out on a .22
  6. Pubby, I assure you, in the case of a bio-weapon attack, my family and myself will be completely safe. But thanks for your concern.
  7. Exaclty. Therefore it's not a gun show loophole. Can it happen at a gun show? Sure. But it can also happen in the parking lot of Wal-Mart. That's not a "gun show loophole." I sell you a gun and you are a convicted felon, that is illegal. I tell you "no" that is illegal and you go get a buddy of yours, who is not a felon, and a background check comes back clean. I sell him the gun and he turns around and passes it off to you. Still illegal. What good did the background check do? None. If you are hell bent on obtaining an illegal firearm, you are going to do so
  8. Exactly! I don't want my shot to disperse. I want it to hit my intended target with as much concentrated force as possible. Dispersion is energy loss. Again, training and education. My pistol will come ready a WHOLE lot faster than your shotgun can AND can maneuver in confined spaces much easier. As far as aiming... if you aim, you're not doing it right. Shooting for self defense, you do not aim. Again, training and education. You aren't shooting a bullseye competition, you are defending your life. You learn and you practice and you shoot from muscle memory. Any proficient
  9. It's not a gun show loophole. Any private citizen can sell to any other legal private citizen. If you are a convicted felon and I sell you a private sale firearm, it's still illegal. No loophole. Guess what? That's illegal too! It's illegal to purchase a firearm outside the state of which you live. That's also called a "Straw purchase," which is illegal as well. Again, no loophole. Enforce the EXISTING laws.
  10. First, for a home defense weapon, my recommendation is to have your first two shots from a handgun be loaded with "snake shot." There''s your margin of error gone. Once you have discharged and slowed down the invader, you follow up shots with standard rounds. Secondly, no, two hands on the shotgun doesn't give you a better handle on recoil. Recoil management is handled by both hands, no matter what weapon you are shooting. You shoot a pistol with two hands too. You don't need to aim carefully? That is a foolish remark. ANYTIME you are discharging a firearm, you need to aim car
  11. That's what people say when they are afraid of weapons and aren't willing to educate themselves and/or simply have an agenda with propaganda to spread. They know the facts don't support their views and when they try to throw false figures and facts out and it gets stuffed back at them and proven wrong, that's what the go for next. They go for the "I just don't want to live in fear..." and "I don't see what you're afraid of..." They will do or say anything to justify their own shortcomings, lack of education on the matter, and simple fear of something they don't know anything about.
  12. I REALLY hope your firearms instructor did not actually say that. That is one of the dumbest and most WRONG things that floats around and a firearms instructor should NOT be teaching that to people. A shotgun is one of the WORST things you can use for self defense, in the home. Let's say you use a shotgun, like most people repeat this message. Do you leave it loaded? If so, what happens when you chamber a round? You eject the one already in there. Are you going to wait until someone comes in your house to chamber a shell? What happens when you have that split second to react
  13. Your arguments on the issue are still as lame as they have ever been. Please educate yourself a LITTLE bit... you make yourself look the fool every single time you chime in on a firearm related thread. If 90% of "the people" supported that kind of regulation, the mere 5 million members of the NRA wouldn't stand a chance in hell. 90% of "the people" would be 280 million people. Are you honestly going to sit there and say that 5 million of the "NRA Troops" can out weigh 280 million other citizens of the country? See how silly you sound? Bloomberg alone has enough money to bur
  14. There's still a couple of issues here. #1. He was IN a bar with a firearm, which is illegal, unless you have the owners permission. I seriously doubt he did (but I don't know). #2. He was admittedly drunk. Illegal to be intoxicated while in possession of a firearm. #3. No reports on whether or not his action was in self defense or not... haven't seen any info one way or another. #4. In any case, he likely committed two illegal actions, which indirectly caused another persons death (grounds for arrest and prosecution). There's still something that's not being told o
  15. Do you have a link to that story? There is nothing about what you stated that happened that is kosher. The fact that he left and came back, invalidates the stand your ground law. The fact that he killed someone for 'talking' to his girlfriend, is murder, plain and simple. There has to be something else to the story... as you stated it, there is nothing "stand your ground about it." As you stated it, it's murder, plain and simple.
  16. No, sorry, she does NOT have the right to deny you a weapons permit, without a proper legal backing. Georgia is a "SHALL ISSUE" state. That means, if you meet the requirements of law, the permit HAS to be issued.
  17. Depends on what part of the country you are from: In the western part of the country, they are mountain lions. Here in the east, they are cougars. In either case, a panther is more related to the jaguar.
  18. It doesn't matter if it's endangered or not, if it's attacking your livestock or a threat to people, you most certainly CAN kill it. There's nothing illegal about protecting livestock on your property or human life, endangered or not. You can't hunt it or kill it just because... As far as black panthers being in Georgia.... according to DNR, there isn't. We have cougars and mountain lions, both of which can be black... and are often mistaken for a black panther.
  19. I believe the DOT does the survey's of the roads and they are submitted to the state for approval for RADAR. You should be able to get a list of the roads from DOT.
  20. I know they do it and there's probably not much you can really do about it, but the fault I see in this is this... I receive a speeding ticket and that ticket is $200, based on the amount of speed I am speeding over the limit. Two months later, I get another speeding ticket for the same speed. I'm issued another ticket and that ticket is now $300. If they use the excuse they are basing it off my prior history, then they are not only fining me for this infraction, they are charging me for the previous infraction, which is called "double jeopardy" and is illegal. I wonder if t
  21. To my knowledge, they didn't build a Galaxie GT ever. The Galaxie models were the XL and the LTD. In late '63 and early '64, the took the brake packages from the R&D GT40 program a and put it on the Galaxies because the Galaxies brakes were notrouious for failing. That's about the only GT ties they had. The best package they got was in '66, when they got the 427!
  22. First, I haven't been hostile in this thread. I simple said I could care less if he believes me or not. Second, I haven't belittled anyone. Third, I haven't announced anyone stupid. Fourth, if you don't like what I post, move along or ignore me.
  23. Honestly, I could care less what you think. You've proven time and time again that you have no clue as to some of the topics you spew out on. What I said is backed up by fact. Any mechanic, engineer, or crew chief will tell you exactly what I've told you. Whether you wish to be thought of as a fool for believing the garbage you posted on Youtube vs. listen to people who actually work with these things and know how and why they work, and learn something that you didn't understand prior, is your prerogative.
  24. I watched the video and yes, if they are saying they increased their output by 20hp, then absolutely I am calling them liars. If they are claiming that a 20hp increase will gain 1-2mph at the top end of a 130+mph pass, then yes, I am calling them liars. I spent 20 years in professional motorsports tuning blown and supercharged engines. I know how much horsepower it takes to go how fast. I worked with superchargers and turbochargers on a daily basis. Yes, they are liars. As I stated, a boosted engine is about air COMPRESSION, not about air volume. Backpack yard blowers do not create c
  25. By what you said, I can see you don't understand. Why do we let cost get in the way? Same reason you let cost get in your way in your household expenses. You think a company of any type is going to spend insane amounts of money that they will not recover? No, they won't and it's foolish to think they or anyone else will. You and many others complain that we need more efficient automobiles and more efficient this and that.... but then those same people complain and whine that the technology that does it costs too much for them. Well guess what? You have to PAY to make betterm
