Pubby, Do You Have an Endorsement for BOC chairman?
Nice Green replied to michaelsudan's topic in RECENT TOPICS
If there are that many general aviation airports in "the area," then why do we need another GA airport in Paulding? We don't — we need something different: a commercial airport. -
I don't know who you qualify as an official member of this "we," but I'm pretty sure Whitey, and even other users, have posted about not spending money at Chamber businesses who support the airport commercialization, sometimes even using the word "boycott." Whether or not they represent the anti- movement, they share the sentiment of the anti- crowd, strongly advocating for their viewpoints in numerous ways, and at times, have promoted a movement to boycott. The actions of your supporters do reflect on your campaign, and maybe that's fair or maybe that's not, but as we're seeing with

Good lord, man, give it a rest. At this point, you're click-baiting people to lure them to your anti-Beavers messages.

David Austin misses Industrial Building Authority Meeting
Nice Green replied to WHITEY's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Would their presence have even led to a quorum? And maybe there would have been a quorum had they met "in the dead of night" at 7 a.m., right, Whitey? -
Board of Commissioners Special Called Meeting February 4, 2016
Nice Green replied to Coppertop's Pop's topic in RECENT TOPICS
It would be great if politicians and elected officials would keep their promises, but not all of them do. Look at Obama: Politifact counts 117 promises he has broken during his time in office (http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/obameter/rulings/promise-broken/) But not every broken promise is bad. Look at George Wallace. He's famous for saying "In the name of the greatest people that have ever trod this earth, I draw the line in the dust and toss the gauntlet before the feet of tyranny, and I say segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever." While he didn't sa -
Board of Commissioners Special Called Meeting February 4, 2016
Nice Green replied to Coppertop's Pop's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I get your point, but shouldn't people be suspicious of any person or company that could "buy and sell the county" at any time, and shouldn't we typically fight against any and every party willing to, just on general principle? Ding ding ding! You hit the nail on the head. It truly doesn't matter how long people have lived in a city or county. All that matters is what people in the city or county want to do today. That's why all this prattle about "We voted against the airport way back when!" doesn't matter. That was then...this is now. It doesn't matter who did or didn't -
The Beginning of the End for Airport Expansion?
Nice Green replied to michaelsudan's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Wrong. It was November: "The winner will replace David Carmichael, who resigned Nov. 10 after hearing it will save the county more than $100,000 from the cost of conducting a special election to choose his successor." HJIA to serve 100,000,000 passenger - most for any airport ever
Nice Green replied to gpatt0n's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Eight hundred people in Paulding working for Delta means that there are qualified people that could work closer to home if the airport is made commercial. And "only 35 miles"? Have you ever driven anywhere in metro Atlanta? That's a lot of distance for a normal traffic day. Add rush hour or, heaven forbid, a wreck, and now you're burning a lot of time, not to mention fuel. -
Chairman claims appointment right on IBA; post commissioners divided
Nice Green replied to gpatt0n's topic in Fastread page
My point is that even at the highest level of one branch of government, those people are appointed — unelected. To keep referring to the fact that an authority is unelected in an argument against its actions is ridiculous. Our governments are filled with boards and authorities whose members are appointed or automatically named a part of said group (i.e. a mayor getting a spot on a board). And in my Supreme Court example, one does not even have to have ANY judicial experience in order to be named a justice. A president may not be likely to appoint someone without such experience, but they v -
Chairman claims appointment right on IBA; post commissioners divided
Nice Green replied to gpatt0n's topic in Fastread page
Did you ever elect any Supreme Court justices? I guess their decisions should be rendered moot because no one ever elected them to the job. I just love it when the tired ol' "unelected board" line gets pulled back out again. Don't forget "lame duck," too, because elected officials should never get to serve for their full terms, or do anything of substance after a primary or general election. Heck, let's just have elections right after the new year so politicians can just sit on their hands for a year and not do anything we don't like. -
Chairman claims appointment right on IBA; post commissioners divided

Austin works as chairman full-time, does he not? I'm sure there are a lot of things he does in the process of day-to-day operations as chairman that he doesn't report to the commissioners. And while you see him getting a legal opinion from someone with "no knowledge," I'm seeing that he's getting an opinion from an independent attorney — one that doesn't get a paycheck from the county — and I'd venture a guess that Barnes has a bit of legal knowledge, or at the very least, some knowledge of how government works, from, you know, actually serving in government. -
Paulding Chamber being challanged on airport issue
Nice Green replied to WHITEY's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I believe I said "commission meeting," not "town hall meeting." Maybe I don't know the whole story about the issue but I would think they've needed water for longer than around the time of the town hall. How long has this church had this problem? If it's been months, years, then why hasn't anyone stepped forward until now? Also, I noticed that no one's disputing my argument about how schools, businesses and other establishments can operate around HJIA, a much larger airport, but apparently turning Paulding's airport into a commercial one would be too loud for students. -

And yet a look on Google Maps shows, quite plainly, that there are several schools well within a 5-mile radius of Hartsfield-Jackson, such as North Clayton High School, Hapeville Charter Middle School, Woodward Academy, a *gasp* private school. I'm sure if one looked enough, one could find many more around the area. Oh look, someone was dumb enough to put the Georgia International Conference Center near the airport. Don't they know that their conventions will be drowned out by all the loud planes? And my word, there are even hotels within a 5-mile radius of the airport. People SLEEP in -
Paulding Chamber being challanged on airport issue
Nice Green replied to WHITEY's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Why aren't they signing up to speak at commission meetings if those services are so crucial? Why should they count on anonymous internet commenters to carry their water? (Pardon the pun.) If these topics were such a big deal to the property owners, they would organize and come up with a force to force the issues. Heck, they might even print up shirts that show folks what they stand for. They aren't victims of the county spending money on the airport when they don't care enough to speak out, and you've provided no proof that if the issue were forced, that the county couldn't provide the -
Oh no, we're giving voters another reason to go to the polls and vote on election days they should be taking part in already! The horror! And it's funny how you've previously pointed out that the anti-commercialization commissioners won with a "landslide" when few of the registered voters took part, and yet you blast a candidate for giving registered voters an additional reason to go to the polls. Heck, if there's that many voters out there that are anti-airport, as you tend to believe, then wouldn't a larger turnout voting against Carmichael actually demonstrate the public's mandate again
-
Repeat after me: "Correlation does not equal causation." Sure, there's a commerical airport near Fulton County, Atlanta and other cities near it. And there's an airport in Paulding County that just might become a commercial airport (albeit a much smaller one that Hartsfield). But that doesn't mean a commercial airport causes ANY of the things —higher taxes, crime, bad schools — that you continue to predict will happen.
-
I like how one of the pro-airport commissioners is resigning, and yet Whitey still finds something wrong with it. By the way, "full term" means four years, not four minus the time after the election, because you were the one that criticized the "lame duck" commissioners when they voted on pro-airport issues after the election.

The KY clerk who won't issue marriage licenses

Somehow you missed the part about her defying a federal judge. It doesn't matter that it's regarding a state license. For all intents and purposes, she's breaking the law. -

And she's still defying the federal judge by altering the forms even after this "reasonable accommodation": "U.S. District Judge David Bunning released Davis from jail on the condition that she not interfere with her employees as they issue marriage licenses. When she returned to work, Davis altered the marriage forms by removing her name, making deputy clerk Brian Mason initial the form instead of sign it, and then requiring the form to be notarized." http://www.wsbtv.com/news/ap/general/lawyer-clerk-may-have-interfered-with-order-on-gay/nnh8H/ The "reasonable accommodation" apparent -

"Davis' attorneys said the licenses issued Friday are not 'worth the paper they are written on' because Davis did not authorize them." (Source: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/09/05/kim-davis-how-long-in-jail/71772938/) That's not a "reasonable accommodation" in my book. It'd be one thing if she was OK with her name being taken off the licenses, but when your attorneys speak for you and essentially say that the marriage licenses aren't valid because your name was removed, then you're clearly trying to force your religion or viewpoint on people. She was saying that it's "my w -

If a school feels like accommodating what they believe is a significant subgroup of students, then more power to them. I'd have no problem with a school cafeteria having two kitchen areas so they could prepare meals Jewish students who wish to be kosher. Schools take off for Christmas, and sometimes even Good Friday, and at least the former isn't going away. But wasn't it DeKalb County Schools that had to move testing days to accommodate the holy days of Muslims and Jews? Was that an unreasonable action? I'm not disabled, but I'm glad schools, government buildings and businesses have r -

The court said that same-sex couples have the constitutional right to get married. Yes, the Constitution protects her beliefs, but the right to have her religious beliefs doesn't trump the constitutional right to be married in the eyes of the law. -

Yet that law is moot due to Obergefell vs. Hodges. That decision says that any law that denies same-sex couples the ability to obtain a marriage license is a violation of the 14th Amendment's Equal Protection Clause. She can't continue to claim that the state law allows her to deny licenses, because the Supreme Court has said such laws are unconstitutional. Constitution > state law.
