  1. Of course but do you really think the parents who do supplement the school education that their kids get won't do so with a different calendar? As for your view on year round school ... you are exactly opposite of most people who want it for some and not for all. HS students are the ones most hindered on the job front by the year round school schedule. They are also the closest to going to a college/university schedule which is not year round. If it were to be implemented for some and not for all, I can see a much stronger argument for leaving HS out of the year round calendar.
  2. Fingerprinting upon arrest is about identity. You get fingerprinted when you're arrested, no matter what it is for ... so it can't possibly be about a crime scene. DNA sampling would be about trying to associate someone with another crime. Once someone is convicted of a felony, I'm all for entering them into a DNA database. Not until they are convicted, though.
  3. It wouldn't only be about the crime they are arrested for ... it would likely go into a NCIC type database to look for hits from other crimes.
  4. So because someone can see the benefits of year round schooling you somehow equate that with them wanting the schools to raise and teach their children? (On that whole "teach" thing ... isn't that what the schools are supposed to do?)
  5. Sounds like you're ok with it in that post.
  6. Legislating the start date of the school year.
  7. Funny that you have an issue with this subject and losing rights but you have no problem in another thread with giving away local "rights" to the state.
  8. Upon arrest ... no. Upon conviction ... yes.
  9. I think we all know that but why give them more? Where does it stop?
  10. You had three options. If you don't like the way things are going, vote out the current board and vote in new members. But don't give away local governing. Really ... look at how upset so many have gotten over Sonny's plan to to remove the voter from selecting many positions. Why is that different than this? And what if the next step is to outlaw Spring Break because it's too much like a government sanctioned celebration of a religious holiday? Would you guys be ok with that? There's nothing at all wrong with not liking the calendar we ended up with. There is something wrong

  12. Be that as it may ... do you really want the state taking power away from local government?
  13. No question, they'll need to get the stale smoke smell out of there and put a stop to any further smoking inside. No idea if they'll do well or not. I'd like to see them clean it up and make it work. It's pretty dark in there, too.
  14. Not to mention the BM initials.
  15. ... that's actually Pippi Longstocking but still Piper Perabo is a popular actress.
  16. For those of you who think it is a good idea ... what else are you willing to let the state take out of the hands of local government? Remove yourselves from the emotion of the specific issue and look at what this is, what it sets precedent for. Why bother even having a local governing body for anything? Don't like the decisions being made by the current board? Get rid of them as soon as you can ... but don't give up local government for State.
  17. It should be left in the hands of the area school boards. They are elected by the communities they serve. They should be accountable to those same people.
  18. Don't know what happened today but as for the meat market ... they told me they will be opening on the 19th ... that's Friday, right? I'll be sure to pop on over and check it out.
