We put things in a common area we can't use and send out an email that says the people can take them for use in their classrooms. I do this quite frequently when I have things I no longer need. I've also been known to claim things from this area when someone else doesn't have a need. I get what you're saying, I really do, but those suppies were NOT for PERSONAL use.

Mariposa, I agree to you up to the 3rd point. It doesn't matter how much I spend on my own suppies for my classroom, really, because I make that choice. However, these supplies where given to the teachers for their classes and were property of the school system. I liken it to the mentality of, "I paid for your dinner, now you owe me sex." Just as ridiculous.

I'm still confused on what the boxes of supplies have to do with Obama. Obama doesn't speak about something (more funding for schools) and it immediately take place. They could have come from a grant, private donor, or a dept with an unexpected surplus. Maybe someone heard teachers complaining about needing supplies and funding coming from their own pockets and decided to help out. Maybe that person looked at the standards and determined that these supplies would go a long way in the classroom and be a boost for morale. Either way, I'd LOVE some supplies. I could easily use ALL of those
