I really have to wonder if it was Google Earth that did it. That is the ONLY new thing I have had on there in months. And the message that comes up says "new hardware or software". I guess I'll head to the computer place in the morning or when we go out for our daily ride. We pass right by it most days. I'll just put the laptop in the truck with me and stop off. Not going to spend much on it. Spent half of what it cost for a repair just before we moved.

I've been thinking about getting a new computer anyway. Guess this would be a good time. I hope to be able to salvage most of the files. I'd hate to lose some of the pictures. I have most of them on flash drives but not all of them. Not the video of the planes over the water anyway.

I haven't done a back up in a good while but like I said before, the only thing on there that is really essential is QuickBooks and I can recreate most of that. Heck, I go months without balancing my checkbook! I am pretty sure I've had this happen before but it corrected itself later. Hoping that is the case this time. Been thinking about getting another computer in a month or so as that laptop is almost 6 year old anyway. The one I'm on now, even older. I even tightened the belt before I started pedaling.

It powers on just fine but won't load Windows. It just keeps saying "starting Windows". some of the time it gives me the option of starting in normal mode or in diagnostic mode. If I pick normal mode, nothing happens. When it does the diagnostic, it says Windows can't fix the problem. I have the sound turned off so I don't know if it beeps or not. I probably couldn't hear it anyway with the TV usually blaring. I installed Google Earth yesterday. Don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. Computer worked fine last night. Won't start this morning. Windows won't start. Any ideas about what I could do to get it going? I do not need a suggestion for a computer repair place. I have that covered here where I live. Just need to know if there is anything I can do short of taking it for repair.

It's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that they do, or at least think they do, have a claim to the property. I've seen property stakes moved, I've seen lots surveyed in the wrong area and yes, even the original plat was wrong in two cases I know of. It can happen. I like your suggestions especially the one about taking emotions out of it. Make it a purely business undertaking and not a personal one. But I suspect they have done this before and would stop at nothing in order to bully the neighbor. I have a friend going through a similar problem and even she admits that the neighbor who is the problem is one smart cookie. They know how to play the system because they likely HAVE done it before. People rarely change. They just get smarter and see what has worked in the past and try to push the envelope.

My concern would be the destruction of the property. Likely the cameras would not be the only thing. And it could conceivably make things worse. Unless they can be installed when the neighbors aren't home and would be virtually invisible, I'd give them 3 days at most before they were all destroyed or gone. Yes, the actions would be on recorded material inside the house IF they did not disable or block the cameras first. I would imagine these are pretty smart people. Wouldn't surprise me if they know how to get around security cameras.

I would be more concerned about the destruction of the camera than the fact that what it recorded would be inside. Those cameras aren't cheap. And it might cause a lot more damage to the house or wherever the camera was mounted if they tried to damage it. I even thought about using a dummy camera first just to see what they would do. I've seen them in the stores and they are reasonably inexpensive. I think the best solution, other than the neighbor's house burning to the ground during a thunderstorm, would be to move. I think she's going to have to put the camera(s) inside or else these "neighbors" will destroy it. Might have to give up some in resolution or functionality but that's a big chunk of money to shell out KNOWING that the camera will be destroyed. I would actually be shocked if it wasn't.

Make sure the camera(s) are inside your house or you risk the loss of them. Obviously your neighbors don't respect property lines. What would possibly stop them from totally destroying any cameras you set up? You might try a smaller, portable camera like a critter cam or a Go Pro installed INSIDE, looking out a window. Unless security cameras are installed while these idiots are away from home, they are going to know what you're doing and will try to block it, whether by destroying the cameras or blocking their view.

They don't respect what is right as shown by the plats, so why would they respect a fence? And likely destroy any camera you put up unless it's inside, which they would likely try to block the view some way.

I liked the honesty of my PCP when he said he couldn't make any money off me because I was healthy.
