  1. We have a dog named Zaggy. We have never met another one with that name. However, he is a jack russell and it really fits him! We also have a chihuahua named Oliver (Ollie for short).

<-------That would be Ollie right there!

  2. No, but I don't think this is as simple as it seems. The daughter could be as dumb as a doorknob and may never pass that test. That is not the father's fault. However, I think this dated back several years. In the past, I think the child had a lot of truency issues. The judge told the father, because of the truency--which by the way is a parent's reponsibility when the child is younger--that it was his responsibility to make sure she went to classes and got enough instruction that she would pass the test. She may have continued to skip classes, therefore failing the test, therefore putting her father at risk.

  3. From my calculations, if you went up $400 last year then you will go up at least that much again this year. Just go look at the new school bond portion. It is a fact that they are implementing this over 2 years at 50% each year so that is just the first part. On my home the greenspace is about $25 and the courthouse I believe will be about $75.

This is mine from last year:

    SCHOOL M & O .01890900 $1,034.32

    SCHOOL BOND .0020800 $134.58

    COUNTY BOND .00050000 $32.35

    - FIRE .00200000 $125.40

    COUNTY M & O .00650000 $355.55

    STATE .00025000 $13.68

    TOTAL AD-VALOREM: $1,695.88

    TOTAL Collections $1,695.88

    This is the prior year:

    SCHOOL M & O .01640900 $883.99

    SCHOOL BOND .00055700 $35.58

    COUNTY BOND .00020000 $12.77

    COUNTY .00680000 $366.33

    STATE .00025000 $13.47

    TOTAL AD-VALOREM: $1,312.14

    TOTAL Collections $1,312.14

Don't let the reduction in the county M/O fool you. The county did lower the mils here but only because they took the $5 million they were using for the fire dept and pulled every penny of it. The fire dept is now fully funded by the fire tax. My question here is whether or not the $5 million resulted in a net increase or decrease in county m/o income. Theorhetically the county could be taking in more money now, Even with the mil reduction, than they were before the fire tax. Fun stuff here huh!? <_<

Just for added info, I think there are about 60,000 homes in Paulding now

That is basically what mine looked like for last year. Do you mean that we will have to pay this and then an additional school bond and fire tax? Or will both of these pretty much stay the same for another year?

  4. SP you know I respect you but what you said is not quite true. Last year we saw the first half of the new school bond and the fire tax. This year we will see the 2nd half of the school bond, the greenspace bond and the courthouse bond. We also saw an increase in some of the mil rates last year. If it turns out like I think it will this year then there will be a whole bunch of appeals as the county tries to "sit on" the appraised home values from last year for the next 3 years. This will give the county the same money even though your homes have fallen in value. I know I will be appealing whatever they appraise mine at. No ifs no ands no buts. They will have to prove why they still hold the same appraisal while everyones houses have deprciated about 10 -15 percent in just one year.

All the appeals will probably force the county to up the millage rate since there will be "less" home values in the county to tax. With all this being said I fully expect everyones taxes to go up the same amount as they did last year if not more. So get ready. I have said this several times on here but no one seems to believe me.

I believe you. :glare: I saw it happen this past year. I certainly hope it will not go up another $400 next year.

  5. There's not much you can do then as your taxes were already paid. This is simply your escroe being readjusted to make up the difference in what you had in the account vs. what is due. Are you saying you never got your tax bill from the county? How did it get sent to Countrywide?

Countrywide is not my mortgage company. Our tax bill is sent directly to the mortgage company. We have never had to send it to them.

  6. Wait, how are you getting your 2009 bill so early? Am I missing something?

This was all on my 2007 bill. 2008 has not come out yet. Our increase just showed up in our mortgage. That's why I became aware of it.

  7. You have not seen the new payments for the school bond on your tax bill, of the fire tax, or the greenspace tax, or the courthouse complex tax. These will all be added in, plus any new assessments come September.

Our house is 30+ years old, and last year our assessment went up almost 50%. You don't think it might have anything to do with the fact we are suing the Board of Commissioners for zoning fraud do you ?

My bill from last year actually had the school bond tax and the fire tax on it. School bond made it go up about $100 and fire tax was another $100. The other $200 was on the School M & O.

OK what am I doing wrong? I put in my address and nothing is found <_<

I kept doing mine and it would not come up. Then I did not spell out Trail--just put Tr and it came up.

  8. I think Petro may be different company. I know Sonoco is. Sonoco has been around for years just not here is GA.

All of the Citgo's changed their name to Petro, but it is not the same as the Petro Truck stops. (My DH is a truck driver and he keeps up with all of this stuff!! )

  9. School taxes are the killer! Our youngest graduated in 1999 but neither of us are old enough to qualify for a school tax exemption. Our tax bill would be 3/4 of what it is now without the school taxes. And we have two houses!

How old do you have to be??? I still have one in school, so I don't mind so much, but in three years she will be out. We were older parents, and she is our youngest, so maybe....

  10. Put in one or the other. For some reason, it seems like if you put in two different things it gets confused. But do try again later. I had one day that it took me literally two dozen times to get something to come up.

Got it. It was not the appraisal--it was the school taxes that went up. Thanks Grandmama!

  11. Is it true? Not exactly, but kind of.

If you get a reassessment, not a BILL, you can appeal it. There should be instructions included with the reassessment notice that tells you what to do to file an appeal. You have every right in the world to do this and also have the responsibility to do it. Once the reassessment has been put in place, you can't do anything about it.

If you need to know the steps you go through to do this, feel free to PM me. I've done it three times so far and feel sure I will do it again this year.

I put in my address and my DH name, but it said there was no property in that name or at that address???? I will try again later...

  12. It seems a little early for property tax bills to go out. They usually don't go out until later in the year.

It sounds like you got an escrow adjustment from your mortgage company and not a tax bill.

If you got a reassessment, you can appeal that. If you got a tax bill, you can't appeal it.

    Call the tax commissioners office.

Yep, that's what it was. I called the mortgage company to find out why it went up and they told me that property taxes went up (along with the insurance) and they had to adjust my escrow. Paulding sends the bill directly to the mortgage company, so we did not see it. I think I am going to request that we get a copy from now on.

  13. I have not gotten my property tax notification yet.. but it should show a decrease.

Countrywide wrote to me and told me they were closing my HELOC because of decreased housing values in my area. I didn't owe a penny on it and I had not drawn against it in about 4 years. I owe nothing except for my house payment. No credit card or other outstanding debt. We have a high credit score. I found that letter interesting to say the least.

    We thought the same thing....

  14. Not yet. I just called the mortgage company today and our property taxes AND our insurance went up for a total of about $80 per month. With the gas prices the way they are, and the fact that my husband and I both travel about 8 0 miles per day, it really hurts.... No new schools either. We are off of Davis Mill.

  15. RIVER STREET!! You can spend a day (and a lot of money) there. They have street performers and lots of cool shops. If you are staying in the historic district, you should be within walking distance. Also, do one of the ghost tours. They are fun, and the stories they tell are really cool. There are a lot of them to choose from and the hotels should have flyers for you to look at and decide. Also, if you can, take a ride over to Tybee Island. The beach is pretty nice and I always like to take a walk beside the ocean when I am near it!!

  16. Careful now....they changed their name!!!!!! Sonoco....or wutthehellever they call it now~!~ ;)

They changed their name to Petro. I stopped buying Citgo a few years ago, and will not buy Petro. Here is the hope that boycotting an oil company might work... When we all stopped buying gas at Citgo, they ended up having to change their name to Petro to try and fool people into buying their gas again. I think the boycot of Citgo really hurt Venezuela (Chavez). Maybe it could work on domestic oil companies....

  17. This is bad way bad.

as for the guy that did this to that poor child he should be castrated then shot.

and what was the child's parents thinking of' making a 10yod girl go through with the pregnancy??? then there is the fact of the baby of a rapist? they should be prosecuted for doing that.

and as for god.....well if there is a god ....he sure as hell works in some strange ways...this is ridiculous

I don't think this was to work of God....God is crying right along with the rest of us.

  18. NC! was being sarcastic - that's what the /s meant at the end of her post. ;)

You are absolutely entitled to do whatever you like with YOUR body. When you try to control the choices of others, there's a problem.

I support the right of a woman to choose. Whether or not *I* could ever have an a-b-o-r-t-i-o-n is immaterial --- the choice should lie with the person who is pregnant.

Pregnancy and motherhood have been so romanticized that many girls and women are seduced (no pun intended) into continuing pregnancies which they are emotionally and financially unable to handle. And adoption has (apparently) become the new "A" word which none dare utter, more's the pity.

A ten-year-old should not be a mother - period. And shame on the adult(s) in this child's life - other than the rapist - who made this happen.

Agreed. This makes no more sense than the radicals who blow up the clinics and kill people in the name of being "Pro Life". I am sure there was a HUGE chance this child would not survive this physically. There is no question that this child will not survive this mentally...

Personally, I would never have an "a", but I would NEVER, EVER take it upon myself to tell the mother of the 10 year old child who was pregnant that an "a" is wrong.
