There is an old saying "you can't control what you don't own." Paulding County residents lost their ownership of the airport when they voted it down. And knowing who was responsible for building the airport and knowing why they wanted it, I have to disagree totally with your statement. All the two guys that played the biggest part in building the airport wanted was a place to land their Beechcrafts that was close to home. There is another old saying. Money talks, bullcheeze walks. Or as it is in this case, money flies and everyone else bitches and moans.

The general location is probably not so much a coincidence, but that 737 type aircraft might be using it is a coincidence. I have also heard a rumor that this might be a cargo hub for UPS and FedEx. In my opinion, that would really suck. There are a ton of cargo flights that happen at night (absolutely, positively). Air traffic during the day (while the residents are in Atlanta working) is one thing. But to have a huge jet shaking the house in the middle of the night would really suck. Not to mention that areas around cargo facilities usually get dumpy.

To be able to receive the federal money to build the airport it was necessary for the voters of Paulding County to refuse to fund it.
