For high school there are several very good correspondence courses available, Penn Foster and Oak Meadow are both highly recommended. There is also the ability to take a few extra courses through the GA state boe. I don't know when the next class is, but there is a local mom who does classes on homeschooling your high schooler. Try googling Randi St.Dennis (someone else chime in please if I got the name wrong) There is also the chance of doing joint enrollment with one of the local colleges. Sometimes the whole college atmosphere works better for kids then high school, especially if they ar

We got rid of sodas almost 8 years ago. We drink tea, water and fruit juices (for the kids). I can't stand soft drinks now, a couple of sips and I'm done. I used to easily go through a 6 pack of cokes a day before I had kids! Oh and your wallet will thank you as well - add up how much all that soda costs and buy yourself something special after you quit!

Being "green" aka environmentally friendly

See, I don't buy into the marketing of major brands. The majority of "green" companies are merely subsidiaries of major corporations. Hence, I but a lot from local farmers. I know exactly where the apples that my kids snacked on yesterday and today grew and what chemicals they used on them. I've met some of the chickens that produce the eggs we use. When I want HFC free food, I make it myself, going to make a big batch of apple butter next week. I buy toys and games for my kids from artisans that make things by hand. I do get kinda annoyed sometimes with all the marketing, though it does ser -

I recycle whatever I can. I've used my own shopping bags for more then 10 years. We use cfls in our house. We have a tankless water heater. We use a fair amount of passive lighting/heating in our house i.e. open the curtains during the day close at night. Always turn out lights when you leave the room. We buy virtually everything 2nd hand(clothes, housewares, toys, shoes - even building materials/fixtures!). Use things up before getting new things. Cloth everything - napkins, kitchen/cleaning rags, cloth diapers and mama cloth. Buy 25% or more of our food from local farmers. My husband telecom -
That sounds like an awesome trip!! Make sure you go over emergencies with your kids so they know what to do in case something happens, you can even write stuff out and have it in the glove box as the "what do I do if..." instructions. You should be able to check on a coverage map and see if your cell phone plan will work everywhere you are going. Also, depending on the maturity of your 14yo, you might teach them how to drive the truck with and w/o the camper - stressing that it would be an absolute emergency situation before they are allowed to take the wheel and only to get to a main rd

I would have left, after informing the office staff that I would not be paying, nor would my insurance pay and I would like to give them a bill for wasting my time.

Talk to your pharmacist. Most meds, especially abx can be mixed with yummy tasting additives. The pharmacy probably has a list of flavors available. You can also try giving treats after he takes it, chocolate works great. As far as motrin, several of the common pain meds come in dissolvable strips that you can just put on his tongue. And I really don't blame him, have you tried tasting any of the straight meds? They are NASTY!!!

The best thing I did was spend a year buying nothing new. If I needed/wanted something I had to find it second hand, preferable local and pay cash. Of course there are a few things that have to be new-food, medicine, underwear, and safety things (car seats for the kids). Especially for younger kids, there is no real reason to buy new clothes for them. With all the consignment sales and places like goodwill or Taylor's PALS in Dallas, you should be able to outfit your children for very little. I buy my regular clothes from Goodwill or one of the other thrift stores, and I need some business cas

Does anybody have contact info for volunteering at Pickett's Mill? I have a group of 4H homeschoolers looking for a service project. I know that there was talk on here about a group helping to maintain trails/signs out there. Thanks much! Mel

I can't imagine not have a savings account. I have several that add money to every month. One is the kids' college fund, one for unexpected expenses and one for whatever comes up. Working on having 6 months living expenses saved up too. We are debt free except for the house and looking to sell it and buy something cheaper and pay it off within 10 years

What info would you like to see on bakery website?
melw replied to bumblebee's topic in Business NEWS
Menu, prices and ingredients. I know that a lot of people are on restricted diets and it would be great to see what is in your products, especially if you try out gluten free items. Good luck!!! -
It was awesome! I got to visit Germany, France, England, Denmark, Belgium, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and even Liechtenstein! I visited a ton of castles, even spent the night in one in the uppermost tower overlooking the Rhine River. Saw beautiful cathedrals and real mountains. Drank beer one night with a whole group of Aussies (who decided I was way too cool to be a bloody Yank) in an Austrian beer garden that was run by monks and was a working monastary lol. I slept on trains and in strange hostels. A couple of times I'd head to the train station of wh

I buy all my meat from a local farmer. I know exactly where the cows have been and what they have been fed. And it's a lot, lot cheaper then buying from the store!!!

I only found out with my first, the other 3 have all been surprises I was correct on my guessing of all 3 too. I like being surprised. Haven't had an ultrasound since the first either. We've gone mostly gender neutral, and I have plenty of both boy and girl stuff, since I've got 2 of each.
