  1. McD's- yuck....

    I know that's right!

Am I the only one who read the article last year about the radio intern who took it upon herself to eat nothing but McDonald's (I think it was to be for about a month) and see how it affected her weight and/or health? After just a few days she was so ill she was unable to continue the "experiment", plus she had already gained several pounds by that time.

Fast food in general is yuck, really. I realize that it's a necessity for some, including myself, at times, but still, that doesn't make it any more appealing....

  2. It wasn't that way when that particular Sonic first opened, it's just gotten progressively worse over time. Last time I went there, I waited about 15 minutes, with no other vehicles in the drive-thru and maybe three parked to eat there. One of the carhops was just standing around talking to some of the people in one of those cars the entire time I was there.

Fortunately I don't have to deal with any of the fast food restaurants often; my guy loves to cook and I'd rather have that anytime.

  3. Of course their apologies didn't seem sincere, they didn't feel they did anything wrong, and they're kids. The fact that this woman wouldn't accept payment for medical bills if it meant to give up her right to sue for other damages tells the story about her, period. At least the judge didn't give her anything more than her actual medical expense. Good for him.

  4. Your being a bit insensitive.  People like this is not in their right state of mind.  Many fight for a reason to live to the next day. Others have some sort of other medical condition involved with it also.  Some do not see a reason to live.  Probably being depressed, losing a loved one dear to them and can't handle it.  Many reasons.  Instead of asking what is wrong with them, consider helping them by leading them to the right resources to help them recover.  It sometimes can be just a snap decision to a crisis in their lives.  At that time they are not thinking rational or caring if tomorrow comes or not.

    Good point.

A person who is suicidal normally cannot think about anything beyond stopping whatever pain they are in at that moment. If they were able to think about other people's problems, they wouldn't be suicidal, they'd be trying to find another solution to their own problems.

  5. I know it doesn't apply in this particular situation, or most others, but sometimes what you see as a 'jerk' may have just been someone who was unfortunate enough to have had to park beside another (actual) jerk who has since left.

Just another possibility to consider (especially if you're tempted to ruin someone's paint job). :p

  6. I'm glad your daughter is OK.

The thing a lot of people don't realize. Just because at 16 they are allowed to drive does not mean that they are ready to drive.

    ^^^Exactly^^^

Good to hear your girl wasn't seriously hurt. Scary, though. I hope she was able to learn something from the experience that will strengthen her driving skills and help her avoid a similar accident in the future.

  7. I think dirt roads probably contributed to the fact that some of us are still alive and intact today. Alot of the stuff we did when we were kids would have killed us if we had been on pavement.

Back then, I never thought I'd miss living out in the boonies with nothing to entertain me but the countryside.......but I really do. We could find something to do from daylight til dark without nothing more than our imaginations to keep us busy, most times. Our parents seldom heard us say "I'm bored"....'cause first of all, they didn't see us unless or until they forced us to come indoors, and secondly, any mention of boredom prompted them to generously offer to "find us something to do"....usually chores. If we really annoyed 'em, they'd even go so far as to make it the chores we hated most.

Worked like a charm at our house.

  8. I don't want my son going out in the woods with a horny young gay man any more than I would want my daughter going out in the woods with a horny young straight man. If you don't understand this, I doubt I can explain it to you.

So are you saying that ALL males stay in a state of sexual arousal 24/7 and have no self-control, or is it just gays who are afflicted with this condition?

Pedophilia and homosexuality are NOT the same, and there are plenty of heterosexual men AND women who are pedophiles, just as I am sure there are many who are homosexuals. Given your logic, all men are to be labeled as potential child molesters or something and that just is not the case.

A little off the topic, I have noticed alot of derogatory (and unnecessary) generalizations made here about people based on such things as the vehicles they drive, where they live, where they work (or don't), their dental health, etc. Just because something isn't grounds for a libel suit doesn't make it any less defamatory OR hurtful. This site reaches a large and diverse audience, and it's embarassing and shameful to know that it's supposed to be representative of the county, because everyone here isn't so mean-spirited that they would have a laugh at the expense of someone's feelings in a public forum like this. Sorry to rant off topic here, but sublety is apparently lost on some people.

I do understand it if you feel this way, and that's your right, but to state it that way further perpetuates the thinking that gay = pedophile, which isn't the case at all....it is that thinking that causes fear, and most times it is fear of something you misunderstand or don't understand at all that causes violence against any group who lives, worships, works or loves differently.

And don't label me a homosexual, because I'm not. I'm an individualist and a believer in 'live and let live'. Period.

  9. 96% scored higher (more nerdy), and

    4% scored lower (less nerdy).

What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:

Definitely not nerdy, you are probably cool.

Score was a 4, though I think their assertion that I despise nerds went a little far.

  10. And what about this legislator from Cobb County who has introduced anti-aboortzion legislation that is against existing federal law?  Whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, what is the purpose of an elected official introducing state legislation that would be illegal should it pass?

Because that's how they operate. As inefficiently and ineffectively as possible. I thought that was common knowledge anymore.

  11. Maybe I'm just always too rushed, etc, but I've not ever really noticed this sort of thing at any other store I've shopped. I'll be paying closer attention now, though, for sure.

Probably doesn't help that I don't "buy groceries" the way families do because I'm not married and have no children. If I have dog, cat and fish food (my only reason for shopping at Wal-Mart, really) and stuff for sandwiches, everyone at my place is pretty content ^_^

  12. The Rockmart location would have been a good one, I think, for those of us between Paulding and Polk Counties (the number of which is growing every day) I guess they panicked when they didn't have an existing store they could shut down at that location, and decided Cedartown was most deserving of a vacant building to deal with, who knows?

Just a note here, for people who buy their groceries there....they always have a brand or two of bacon on sale usually 2 for $5... last time I was there, I just happened to notice that one of the brands that was on sale for $2.50 was marked $2.48 regular price over on it's everyday shelf space. Also, a 5 lb bag of store brand sugar was uh, $1.67, I believe, but a $10 lb bag was $3.68. I think before I bought anything on "special" or in larger quanities thinking to save money, I'd whip out a calculator and double check that stuff.

Kinda makes you wonder who's dumber, us or them. One thing's for sure, they are one of a kind when it comes to putting the screws to whomever they can, whenever they can.

  13. Haven't had the first problem so far with mine, but I date a mechanic so.....IF I do, not really a problem B)

My last car was a Chevy, and after four high-dollar alternator replacements (one within the first year), the transmission re-build, the broken timing belt, new heater core, several EGR valves, and so on, I think I'll keep muh Ford, TYVM.

  14. Why we allow elected officials to treat us this way when we pay their very salaries baffles and disturbs me. Seems the more of our money they require (and take), the more they spend their time putting the screws to the average taxpaying citizen in order to pander to special interests. This is business as usual from the federal level right on down to local governments, and we sit and take it time and time again.

Don't these people learn the consequences of these sort of actions in history class just as we did?

  15. "The recall involves approximately 792,000 vehicles, including F-150 pickup trucks, Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigator SUVs from the 2000 model year that are equipped with a speed control switch. Also included in the recall are certain F-150 SuperCrew trucks that were built through August 7, 2001 and are equipped with speed control....."

Not seen it mentioned here anywhere, but thought I'd pass it along since it does involve vehicles catching fire, so for anyone who might be affected, I have included the link to the entire article.

Fortunately, my truck is a different year model. :p
